Last year was my first time with black walnut syrup, your video and others were the inspiration . Thank you for introducing me to the family of making liquid good. First year we went small and ended with 1 gal of syrup, this year the plan is to double up. Thanks again for the great video!
I did a little maple syrup for the first time last year, This year I'm trying walnut, silver maple, sycamore and elm along with whatever hard maple I have that I used last year. The sycamore and elm are not running yet and very little out of the walnut so far. Silver maple is almost as good as sugar maple but develop a mineral sand that settles to the bottom, some people like it because of the minerals. As a warning to everyone, syruping can be very addictive, so proceed at your own discretion.
Heard the average is a 40:1 boil-down, but I also heard that walnut is close to 60:1 or an even greater ratio. Got tons of Black Walnut around my area, so I might as well give it a go. Thanks for the video though: enjoyed it.

That looks amazing! And have never heard about it till just recent! Thanks for sharing!!
Sounds amazing. Made pecan syrup before but never walnut.
Thats not a bad haul out of just a few gallons man!! Yum!
Next year when I get a bigger system we can do a trade!
Totally into doing that!!
Looked really good being poured over that ice cream
Great job! We also found out that you can tap birch trees and birch trees are in abundance near us in Ontario.
Yes, I hear you can tap quite a few different species! This year we made maple syrup!
How long did it take for you to boil down your few gallons of sap into syrup?
I have around 10 walnut and 10 maple trees would you recommend to boil them down separately or evaporate them together/mix the saps?

Yes! It takes work, but the reward is worth it! Good luck!
How much percent sugar is there in the syrup when finished?
Oh, man. Look at the color. Mmm
Should I add sugar?
Very cool. Assume it doesn’t kill the tree?
Good job. I hope you find a better way and place to boil. Inside the kitchen will get pretty tired quickly.
Any idea if this would affect someone with a nut allergy?
Unfortunately, there hasnt been enough testing to know!

Thanks, hoping to build a syrup evaporator this fall!
Awesome. I wonder if I could do that with oak trees.
Did you find out?
