I am so so sorry for the editing mistakes!! Thank you for your understanding, I hope it doesn't scare anyone too much! The corrective edits I made should be live in the next few hours. I am clearly not an editor >.< 😭
I have a condition that involves trips to the dermatologist, and not many ASMRtists ever mention it. It's called Alopecia Areata, an auto-immune disorder. So your immune system attacks hair follicles (hair, eyebrows, eyelashes), it's a head to toe affair. But in terms of triggers, derm appts for alopecia are a treat ~.~ you always get a detailed scalp examination with a massage, the derm tends to comb through your hair (if you have any) or run their hands across your scalp to assess texture of skin, any discolouration, thickness of any hair, and look for hairloss. So we lose our hair in fun, geometrical shapes, but that also means that the dermatologist measures them. They usually use a ruler for that, but tape measure is more effective IMO. They mark down all the areas you've lost hair on charts that have diagrams of your head and body, back and front. There are multiple types of alopecia, "areata" is patches, "totalis" is no hair on your scalp, and "universalis" is total loss of hair head to toe. You also tend to get psoriasis or other skin conditions occasionally. So yeah... head massage, hair combing, measuring, writing things down... I love seeing the derm XD If you (or anyone else) wants to know more, let me know, I've been this way for 32 years :3 (sorry for the long comment, haha. Really enjoyed the video
@@sanyagrover5838 Thanks! For the most part this condition is physically painless (sometimes you get a tingling/burning sensation on 'active' patches), but as you can imagine, the emotional side of life can be really tumultuous. We get bullied a lot, a lot of alopecians struggle with anxiety/depression. I'm pretty happy-go-lucky at this point. We have no cure, and treatments don't work overly well for most of us. In a typical case, alopecia will come and go in cycles, you might get a couple of patches, but they'll grow back in within the year. My case is a bit special, my alopecia doesn't turn off, it just moves around my body. It also has an amazing sense of humour. I lost my right eyebrow, and my left eyelashes =P SUCH a pain to draw in every day. Made more tolerable by completely losing all hair on my legs. Not sure how long that will last, but as a chick, I'm happy about that! There are some outdated treatments still in practice, like corticosteroid injections. I did those when I was 17, and it's pretty bad. Your derm comes in with 24-35 needles, and you get the steroids injected straight into your head. It's painful, very bloody, and it didn't work for me. There is a new drug people are trying that suppresses your immune reaction to your hair, but it costs $1500/month for life, and it isn't covered by insurance. Yikes! Right now I use a gentle immunomodulator to try and coax my eyebrow back. We'll see if it works. I notice that darker hair falls out first, the last hair you lose is the thinnest, blondest hairs, and it grows back in reverse-- baby blonde first, then eventually darker, thicker "adult" hair. Every time it grows back it can come back different. Sometimes I have sections of red, blonde or grey strands, or blonde-tipped black hair. Sometimes it comes back curly, sometimes straight. You never know what you'll get. So you end up being a very flexible person, haha. I have a robust (100+) collection of hairpieces and I match them to my scrubs (work in a hospital). My coworkers and patients are really supportive and love it. The companies I've worked for don't mind if I come in with purple, blue or green hair. I don't wear neons to work, but I remember being shocked that everyone was okay with me changing my hair every day, even to 'unprofessional' colours. I always thought it would hinder my love life, but it doesn't get in the way at all, usually for the first week or so of meeting someone, they think it's cool I have so many different appearances, and then by the second week they really just want me to be myself when I'm with them, it's very endearing
@@Silverity wow! I think I've gained more knowledge through your comment than I would gather by reading Wikipedia! I can understand how it can be a hard thing to deal with. I'm so glad you're dealing with it so well! More power to you!! Thank you for all the time you spent writing this out. It means a lot to me. I'd love to see you in different hair too haha!
