Great to see YB featured! When I worked on the Try Guys videos at BuzzFeed they were pretty big on making sure that the talking head shots were always pushing the action/narrative forward instead of commenting on the past (aka post thoughts). They wanted to keep you in the moment and not narrate so heavily that it feels like a fleeting moment to the viewer. So it makes sense that they got rid of the post thoughts entirely.
Although their shows still follow the traditional outline and tropes we used at buzzfeed (cold open, hard cutting music on funny moments, relying on showing opposite things on screen for comedy "hey don't do this thing" then showing them do that thing haha) the Try Guys do have backgrounds in filmmaking/ acting respectively. So specifically Eugene and Zach used to leave heavy notes on how to make small changes to a video to make it feel more like a tv show and veer away from the usual BuzzFeed content as much as possible. They used to also take the edit and experiment with tweaks themselves to see what was and wasn't working. So that is a big reason why their edits now feel more TV-ready because they've intentionally put a lot of work over the years into getting it to feel that way. And it's now the norm. They genuinely care about that. It's been great to watch their videos and see how they've evolved the style over the years to take on a life of its own but still being grounded in the frantic BF style that they started with.

LOVED this video. I haven’t watched a single Try Guys video but I gained soooo much insight from this interview!
    Some fave moments:
    1. Talking about pre and post thoughts
    2. YB’s organization and workflow (so crazy and admirable!) and how the organization helps with handing over the project to another editor
    3. YB going over the editing, feedback, and reviewing process for a Try Guys video
    4. The tips on music - only use for 30 seconds max and the hard cut during a joke
Also thank you for the extra visuals in this episode! Helped visualize the lessons and concepts

This channel really feels its made by editors for editors. Excellent guests, questions and stories make this one, hands down, one of my favorite TH-cam channels of all time. Thank you so much, and keep the content going!!!

Color Coding is VERY!!! important it saves me so much time and makes the timeline "searchable." I couldn't imagine changing music every 30sec it takes me 3hrs minimum to find "THE" song. I for some reason find it hard to reuse the same song because I fear it makes the viewer feel like they've seen the video before.
