New Guidelines for Obesity from ASMBS released on October 21, 2022 highlights that long-term results of metabolic and bariatric surgery consistently demonstrate safety and efficacy.
Patients may feel constipation post-surgery. The anesthesia, change in diet, medication, etc. can slow the bowel movement. And it's okay to take laxatives and stool softeners as the days go by.
Patients are instructed to stick to a liquid diet for the first 2 weeks post-surgery and then a pureed diet until they're 4 weeks post-surgery. This is important because the surgery has led to certain wounds in the stomach and/or intestines that requires healing. Consuming chewable food too early can hinder healing and may lead to complications. #BariatricSurgery #WeightLoss
