T. Durden, hv U ever seen the BBCs The World At War? It came out in 1973 or 74. The TV series Combat was my intro 2 WW2. I saw the reruns on tv around 1970. My next WW2 experience was The Great Escape, then Patton in the theater in 1970 when it came out. But it was the BBC World At War series that made me a life-long WW2 fan. Special shout-out for my great grandfather Hugh Norton, of the Big Red One in the first wave on Omaha Beach. I believe D-Day was his first combat experience. He participated in the Liberation of Paris, Battle of the Bulge, and more in 1944 and 1945. This documentary really means a lot to me and so many people out there. I haven’t been able to leave many person comments about my family’s experience in the war until now.

As a film and tv producer myself, kudos to you all for this massive undertaking. Know full well the work and dedication it takes and you did it for a 24 HOUR project. Incredible.
Two of my uncles were part of D-Day. Both were NCO’s in the US Army although both were immigrants from the Netherlands. Hank was with the 82nd AB and a veteran of Sicily and the Salerno landings. Sam was a combat engineer with the 4th ID. This was his first action. You might say they were both on their way “home” if all goes well. As it turned out both of them did see “home “ before the end of the war.

The voice at the start is Chester Wilmot, Australian War Correspondent, who flew in a 6th Airborne glider to Normanby on D-Day. He worked for the ABC and had reported on the AIF actions in North Africa. He walked the front lines of the Kokoda Track New Guinea campaign with the Australians fighting the Japanese.Wilmot was critical of General Blamey actions or inactions, who withdrew his war correspondent status. He then left the ABC and joined the BBC. He travelled with the D-Day troops to the eventual surrender and wrote the book The Struggle For Europe. He was killed in one of the Comet jet liner crashes in 1954 aged 42.

In June 1991 (aged 11) I took a week long trip to Normandy with high school. One particular stop was at the Gondrée Cafe close to Pegasus Bridge and the Horsa landing locations. Arlétte Gondrée was present ALONG WITH Maj. John Howard. I sat in the café at a table with Maj. Howard and we talked for about 20/30 mins. I am devastated to this day that I remember so very very little about this conversation. What I do recall is how warm, friendly and patient the man was. He happily addressed and signed a souvenir postcard depicting the Horsa he (crash) landed in personally to me. Safely kept to this day and dearly cherished. That entire trip was considerably formative and enlightening and has stuck with me three decades and more later.
I know I'm late and am going to just repeat what many have already said but this is the pinnacle of historical documenting with such a clean and understandable presentation style. As a history teacher and Patreon supporter, I cannot express how valuable this stuff is.

The soldiers, sailors, and airmen are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which they have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon them. The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with them. I don't know if its the language, the gravity of the situation, or what, but something about this speech captivates me. I’m so proud to have met multiple veterans who stormed the beaches that terrible day and came ashore in the days and weeks afterward. Some of the bravest and most noble men I’ve ever met.
The scope and complexity of this documentary echos the scope and complexity of the d-day invasion itself. What an incredible achievement this and the regular ww2 episodes have become. Thank you for your wonderful wonderful work.
The World War Two/TimeGhost Army team has once a gain done an absolute excellent presentation like they did for Pearl Harbor. You all present history in the best possible and balanced way
It is a very humbling experience to see the contribution of the hundreds of thousands of people accurately detailed- many of them, unsung, who contributed to the success of D-Day and whose challenges were in an order of magnitude, so many times greater those those we have experienced in our lives. Thank you very much to the team at World War Two who have once again- as in the Pearl Harbor broadcasts, created such an all-encompassing and compelling programme which will be an outstanding compilation and record of this unparalleled historical event.

To those related to any WWII veterans; thank them for not just me but the rest of the TimeGhost army and team too. They deserve the best.
Indy Gives a really thorough analysis of gliders and their pilots. Anybody wanting to hear the viewpoint of the glider tug's pilot should watch this video where an incredible Australian pilot gives his input- especially, how hard it was to marshal the aircraft and the gliders into formation for the planned operation. Indeed, his experience at Arnhem is salutary as he describes the failure to resupply the radios that were needed as the pilot of the tug broke the towing cable. Here are the search words for YT and it is also an appreciation of the Stirling itself- an aircraft that is misunderstood." Flying the Stirling bomber in World War Two Old Fliers Group."
I just realised that this is 5 hours long. This could be the one of the most defining moments in history. I cannot thankyou enough for this whole history channel.
I haven't read many descriptions of being under artillery bombardment. But the one described at the last hour of this video is so vivid and descriptive that I had to go back and listen to it again. Thanks to the WWII channel and all the content you've brought us for the last few years
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the single greatest documentary made about D-Day. Demystifying, comprehensive, precise and lovingly prepared. A World First! A community united in their love of History, and often of their family members who served and experienced D-Day, made this wonderful experience possible. In both chats, we found great people who I hope can call each other friends and a sense of fellowship rarely felt. Three cheers for the Time Ghost Team, who accomplished a project worthy of the titanic scale of D-Day!

So far I'm only 24 minutes into this bu, but couldn't resist breaking off to say that it's one of the most brilliant presentations on WW2 I've ever seen. Drama. Detail. Insight. A real documentary tour de force. Thank you. Now back to watching the remaining 5+ hours!
This is an epic piece of work. Thanks so much Indy and Spartacus! I was hoping you'd talk about the Spitfire cover over Utah Beach undertaken by the Polish 'Wing' that included my dad. He flew over the fleet and said it was the most amazing thing to see arrayed all before him. His first sortie was just before dawn and his last got back just after dusk. Nobody wanted to miss out that day! can't wait to watch the rest!!! Thanks again.
I'm still watching it. A unbelivably intense and well made documentary. My late grandfather was there, on D-Day. In his last years he started talking about the moment when all hell broke loose and he and his comrades came under fire from the battleships out there. Unable to return fire, just hoping to get out of this alive. Luckily he did. Became a POW later in Falaise.
RIP, my grandmother was a German Jew in hiding in holland liberated by the 82nd. she said it was the happiest day of her life seeing the parachutes fill the sky
@@Sapnfap Uncle Jerry parachuted into Holland as well, unfortunately as he was coming down out of the sky, the germans were shooting flak at them and he was wounded (bad concussion) for the 3rd time and I believe he was knocked out of the war. My Grandfather was also in the war, he was a tanker under general patton. He said his unit was one of the first to cross the rhine river into germany, he also liberated concentration camps. He said that his unit was advancing so fast, and the germans were surrendering to them. He said his unit would basically strip down the germans of their weapons etc, and would execute the officers. My grandfather came back from the war with 10 lugers, and a bunch of watches taken from the german officers.
The day which marks the beginning of the last 11 months of Nazi Germany has come.. The day which sealed the fate of Hitler and so many other atrocious enemies of humanity. While so many battles are so intriguing from WWII, nothing hits as hard as D-Day does. All the planning, effort, significance, etc.. it truly was a day of days. So thankful for the bravery and steadfastness showed that day by Allied forces.
This channel is the gold standard for WW2 docs. Absolutely tremendous work, as always. So many lessons that I wish the whole world would learn. I fear many today are doomed to repeat history because in ignorance, they've learned not if it. God help us.
You guy's are Amazing ! As always great work. I hope this content is watched for a thousand years, in tribute to these brave men (& women) who died & suffered, for US, the generations whom they did not even know....
I never what the end results of the day would be from watching other docs and shows before, and yet this documentary was still gripping. Just the sheer amount of makeshift/mix unit organization while the documentary being in time with the first 24 hours really felt like i had to guess as to what was going to happen next. Plus the live news updates that people were receiving back in 1944 really puts into perspective on the ongoing constant updates we're getting now in 2023 about Ukraine.
I was thinking we would get about 90 minutes of extra content around 6 june. But we got like 25 hours of extra content... im happy like a child in a toystore now. The level of detail is amazing
Unfortunately I can't pay as much attention to this one as the last one. I have work and taking additional time off isn't an option for me. Will watch as much as I can
Fantastic so far Time Ghost team, just Fantastic! 👏 At the end of Day One, I've watched 2 hours and 31 minutes of your excellent content so far. I will continue with Pt. 1 tomorrow and I am looking forward to hearing how the Allies get on. Looking good so far for them, but it's too early to call it and potentially, the scattered paratroop drop could be fatal. We shall see.
Fun fact: my grandfather past down his. Collection of old currency, I have around 30 bills of the German Marc ranging from the years of 1924 to 1945 and it’s cool that they started very large then towards the end of the war, each bill became tiny. Thinking of Roy James Sherrod tonight. He would be killed in action sometime on June 6, 1944 while serving with Company I, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division.
Amazing documentary! Can't wait to watch the rest of this series. Much thanks for the shout out to the USS Nevada! My PawPaw served on her from 1940 till the end of the war. He saw the writing on the wall and switched over to serve in experimental aircraft squadrons after the war and finished out his 20 years far from the sounds of the guns. He never spoke of the war, except to tell me about the time they were struck by a kamikaze near one of the main turrets. He told me that they found the body of the pilot and laid him out under a green blanket near the turret. Decades later, I saw a picture of the after effects of the kamikaze and, there in the picture, you could see the blanket covering the body. Funny side note, he had a picture of him on the beach of Agana, Guam, after the invasion. In 1972, my father, on his way home from Vietnam, had a picture in the same area taken. In 1988, while I served in the Marines, I had a picture taken in the same area. You could really see the difference, with my PawPaw standing amidst shell holes and destruction, my father standing next to a paved road with some buildings in the background, and me standing there in front of hotels with the beaches in the background and Japanese tourists all around. I wish I still had those pictures...
Just realized just how US centric my readings of D-Day has always been. Always concentrating on US drops. Very nice info. TY. Need to look for more books!
Whenever I see the Allies bickering, infighting and their struggles in coalition force fighting and combined arms doctrine, I always remember, somewhere, the Germans post 1942 are doing far worse.

This is sterling work, even if I might struggle to watch it all. The best presentation of this pivotal moment in WW2 I have ever seen.
It’s crazy this doesn’t have millions of views. this is the most in-depth analysis of D-day I’ve ever seen….absolutely awesome
Thanks a lot for your kind comment! -TimeGhost Ambassador

I'm already very impressed by what you had covered in 1 hr. Excellent work on all involved.
One year one. Time to relive this masterpiece on this magnificent day in history!
Another reason to be greatful to live during the information age, thank you for all you do timeghost ❤
Oh my word!!!!! I’m now 59 years old…… time life books inspired me as a kid to have an interest in WW2 and DDAY IN particular
…GREAT JOB you guys of making this come to life!!!!!!!!!!❤👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
A Buckinghamshire native and it's always great to hear about the capture of Pegasus Bridge. I went there on a school trip and other sites in Normandy when I was 11/12.
24:29 Both my father and my uncle were in 9 Para and both jumped on the Battery. My father landed in water up to his waist … long story after that … my uncle made it to the Battery, survived that but was killed June 12th (aged 20). He was manning a machine gun outside Chateau St Come. He is buried in Ranville Cemetery along with all the other Paras. Utrinique Paratus
And, to any WWII veterans watching this:
Thank you for everything you did for humanity during the war not just this day. Your sacrifice is remembered and will never be forgotten.
To those related to any WWII veterans; thank them for not just me but the rest of the TimeGhost army and team too. They deserve the best.
5 HOURS?!! 5 DAMN HOURS. Damn this channel is pure gold, I'm a new fan
6/12!
80th Anyone?
Not on the 80th but started on it.
No, this is the *first* 6 hours. There's going to be 24 hours total covering just D-Day.
I haven't read many descriptions of being under artillery bombardment. But the one described at the last hour of this video is so vivid and descriptive that I had to go back and listen to it again. Thanks to the WWII channel and all the content you've brought us for the last few years
Now that is pretty remarkable to actually hear Chester Wilmot’s voice. A first! Big thank you on this amazing production. Great commentary & insight!!
This will be the single greatest thing I have and ever will watch my excitement is through the roof, thank you for all this great content you provide us viewed with
The amount of research and time they spend writing these scripts is just outstanding and both Indy and Spartacus have incredible skill presenting everything. I’ve been watching your channels since the beginning of The Great War videos back in 2014 it’s just so amazing what your team has accomplished and hard to believe these videos have been with my for almost 10 years now. Thank you for all the work you put into your shows and the dedication of everyone including all those that continue to support the Time ghost army allowing to make this possible. Indy is my hero I absolutely love him. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
All the unqualified praise indicates that most viewers aren't paying that much attention.
@@rdbchase Do you have any idea how much time, work and effort goes into doing something like this? Clearly you have no clue. These channels have covered WW1, The inter war era, WW2 & more in excruciating detail. I would like to see you try and come up with a script for a single episode on your own let alone 24 hours worth of content all at once.
@@rdbchase and what even is “unqualified praise”? Did you mean to say “undeserved or unearned praise”?
@@coldburn9956 Consult a dictionary. "Unqualified" can mean: "not modified, limited, or restricted in any way; without reservations" ("unqualified praise" is exemplary of this usage).
@@rdbchase Ok my apologies to you then. I thought you using the commonly traditional definition of “unqualified”.
I've been looking forward to this since it was announced, some brilliant history content to listen to for the next week or two
As one of the witnesses of the 9 hour "operation crusader" documentation from TIK´s channel,
I am still impressed by the magnitude and quality of this d-day coverage.
Plus time ghost don't call the Nazis socialists
Your channel is massively under appreciated by TH-cam, and an incredible source for anyone who has a passion for WW2 history. Thanks for the years of infotainment!
Working on something like this while releasing regular episodes is a crazy feat, congrats. This’ll be watched for a long long time
Thank you for putting this together. It will be looked back as a valuable reference tool for decades to come.
I absolutely love that splash screen with Indy and Spartacus standing on the beach looking foreboding 😊
This channel is amazing and this stream is a work of art and dedication by the entire crew
Your viewers recognize the shear massiveness of this project. To say this has never been done before is an understatement.... I don't think anyone has even thought of this. 5 hours into ep 1 and I know 100% that I'm finishing this.
This is amazing. I can’t believe we’re here. Seemed like such a far off idea when this all started years ago
This "D-Day 24 Hours" project is incredibly original, superbly narrated, illustrated, edited and researched. It's simply a masterpiece. It's so powerful that yours is the first TH-cam channel that convinced me to open up my wallet in Patreon. I wish you fame and wealth. You deserve it.
An amazing contribution to the historiography! Godspeed to all of you at Timeghost!!!!
(Also, this seemed a long long way off and suddenly it here.....damn you, inexorable passage of time!)
RIP to my Great Uncle Jerry, he jumped into Normandy on D-Day with the 82nd Airbourne
My grandfather came back from the war with 10 lugers, and a bunch of watches taken from the german officers.
this is amazing, and should be on youtube's frontpage. not just for production quality, but also for education on such an historically important day.
Wait what? They're not defeated until 1965 with the nuke of Berlin
@@folppki2256 Sounds like a hell of a dream you had there buddy
As Soviets 😂not beaten already
This channel is the gold standard for WW2 docs. Absolutely tremendous work, as always. So many lessons that I wish the whole world would learn. I fear many today are doomed to repeat history because in ignorance, they've learned not if it. God help us.
You guy's are Amazing ! As always great work. I hope this content is watched for a thousand years, in tribute to these brave men (& women) who died & suffered, for US, the generations whom they did not even know....
Some people might not even notice but your maps are really well done. Kudos
I wish I had these guys when I was in school years ago. One of the best channels for history.
this is so great. i got goosebumps from the beginning of the landing. you are doing extremely well with this, i am sharing these with all my friends!
THE best ww2 documentary series on TH-cam!
Thank you so much Timeghost for putting together this special. These next 24 hours are going to be intense
I was thinking we would get about 90 minutes of extra content around 6 june. But we got like 25 hours of extra content... im happy like a child in a toystore now. The level of detail is amazing
Your Pearl Harbor series was amazing, your D-Day chronicles will be EPIC!
Unfortunately I can't pay as much attention to this one as the last one. I have work and taking additional time off isn't an option for me. Will watch as much as I can
I only found this tonight, I've been reading & listening to a lot of material around the 80 anniversary. This is excellent stuff!
Fantastic so far Time Ghost team, just Fantastic! 👏
At the end of Day One, I've watched 2 hours and 31 minutes of your excellent content so far. I will continue with Pt. 1 tomorrow and I am looking forward to hearing how the Allies get on. Looking good so far for them, but it's too early to call it and potentially, the scattered paratroop drop could be fatal. We shall see.
I watched these all on the other channel, then came here to watch the ads to generate revenue. This was a great project. Good job to the entire team.
Fun fact: my grandfather past down his. Collection of old currency, I have around 30 bills of the German Marc ranging from the years of 1924 to 1945 and it’s cool that they started very large then towards the end of the war, each bill became tiny. You guys should make a video talking about the currencies and showing them off and the changes made through out the war. I also have a American war bond, and Korean or Japanese currency bill, Scottish and British bill back In the 50’s
Unbelievable content. Most creators would milk a hundred videos out of this, yet you upload a six hour mega project. Truly humbling.
80th anniversary of d-day tomorrow
Outstanding to include Gellhorn and Hemmingway- grand storytellers.
panic refreshing for link to part 2
While the next six hour episode premiere is processing and still a few hours out here on the WW2 channel, you can follow the hourly uploads in real time on the D-Day 24 hours channel. HOUR 7 - H-Hour for Omaha and Utah - D-Day 24h

Indy, I've been with you since 2014. Thank you for such tireless dedication
Truly Epic.
Will be seen as the greatest documentary ever.
I can't see it ever be surpassed.
Indy has so much charisma his mannerisms while both are on screen are great
Also salute to the brave reporters who accompanied these heroes into combat.
Walter Cronkite went in with 101st in a glider.

What is there to say? This is simply magnificent. The writing is fantastic, the research phenomenal, and the professionalism and passion of Sparty and Indie - both great communicators- is a delight. Bravo
Thinking of Roy James Sherrod tonight. He would be killed in action sometime on June 6, 1944 while serving with Company I, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division.
Currahee Soldier!
Thanks for sharing, r.i.p
Thinking of a man I met in early 2000s.
He put his Knees in the Breeze with the Screaming Eagles.
Rest in Peace Gus Bernardoni.

Incredible work, so happy to be able to witness it :)
You guys do such an outstanding job, thank you so much.
