Picked this bottle up on Sunday for $50. Was going over to my wife’s nephew’s house for dinner and I was the only whisky drinker there. Wanted something for a warmer day and lucky for me this hit the spot. Drank it neat and thought it gave me what I was looking for. Enjoying it tonight with a large ice cube. Great summer bottle for sure.
I like, how it changes its taste profile every time I try it. Kinda like the old Kilkerran 12 in the thin bottle. Which I loved. And I very much like this one as well. Along with Spice Tree my favourite Compass Box.
Just tried this at a Hotel before a comedy show. Honestly the best for summer time. I am planning to take a bottle to the beach. I had it neat and it was actually really good.

What a coincidence. Tried this in store in London the other day with a guy from Compass Box. Also tried the Peat Monster cask strength but think this was better. Also one of the cheapest CB options, others get a bit pricey! Agree that the Spaniard is a bit of a non event
Always have a bottle on hand , but don't always like it , its ok if i can't find anything more interesting or on an especially hot day ...part of the blend is Clynleish and I have to say ...I still prefer Clynleish 14 to this ..Top channel G

I haven't tried this yet, actually haven't even heard of it . . . . I usually stick to the single malts. You're making it sould pretty good though, so I may have to look for it the next time I'm in the liquor store. Thanks for the recommendation!
I completely agree with your assessment of this refreshing whisky. I was bummed when Compass Box discontinued their Oak Cross. It was a beautiful bourbon cask matured malt blend. When they released the Orchard House, I was happy again. Cheers Geoff. 🥃
Great review Geoff! I picked up a bottle of this for porch sipping with friends and it was definitely a hit. However, I have not gone for a second bottle because Deanston 12 is 10 dollars more in my market and is a total porch sipping champ.
It would be interesting to compare with Glenffidich Orchard or Dewars 8 Calvados . . . for June = Asian whisky, also called Coconut , July = Carribean whisky , aka RUMS ! !

Whilst it is a nice easy summer sipper, maybe with ice (:o) I do find it is a one trick pony and I tend to grab my bottle of Clynlish more often, which can be had for about the same price in Germany.

Hi Geoff, for the money it’s a decent dram, perfect for a summer’s evening. Like it even with an (dare I say 😮)ice ball. Also I like the peat monster,a young, good presented peated blended malt. Good (as always ) video Geoff, slàinte.

I do not think it has a cult following, It is damn good. It is exactly what it says on the label. 45 to $55 in the US. Pretty dang good price. Every friend who's not a whiskey drinker typically loved it. For price quality is there and then some.

Yo, G, You nailed it!!! Technically a perfect review if I do say so myself! In Feb 2020 Compass Box Peat Monster was my introduction to Peat and so it will always have a place in my heart. They were sampling the trio of the Spaniard, Spice Tree and Spice Tree. I loved the Monster and it is the first Peated whisky I bought. My wife and I found it paired perfectly with S'Mores...Just us. Tr it sometime....or not. Thanks for sharing...I'm enjoying an Orchard House right now....

Not familiar with Talisker 18, but I do agree with You concerning Compass Box Peat Monster Arcana-basically it's well aged Talisker with lovely addition of Miltonduff, Ardbeg an drop of Peat Monster CS. I enjoyed this whisky alot, planning to replace it. Standard Peat Monster is good too!
Nice review - however, I would call this a premium bottle, too; a standard glass bottle would be sth. like a Signatory UCF bottle, to me. The Compass Box bottle is way heavier and has a rather unique shape, it seems to me. Just saying :D
This is the only Compass Box whisky I enjoyed in my experience. Still leaves a bit to be desired though imo, it could use some more age to smooth it out. Sometimes the alcohol heat burns away at the pleasant notes. I’d prefer a dram of Clynelish or Kavalan over this, probably.
Compass Box is pretty solid, in the way you look to a blended malt: maybe get the essence of a style, for less dollars if sacrificing a bit of distinctive individuality, similar to the Douglas Laing offerings. My favorite Compass Box is the Flaming Heart, but fair warning, it’s an annual (I think?) limited release, so can get pricier than the core range.
I was sceptical about this one because I thought the Spice Box was meh and didn’t like The Spaniard. But I grabbed a bottle today and crushed four drams of it lol. Easily the best blended scotch I’ve ever had

I've not tried Hedonism. I hear it's good, but it's a bit pricier in my market with a lower abv. I keep hearing good things about it, though. Can't say I've ever seen the Rogue's Banquet in my market. Ones to look out for! 🥃
About the composition of this malt blend - again, Clynelish figures prominently as it does in so many of their blends. I would really, really like for Compass Box to release their own IB example of straight Clynelish with no other whisky included. Lately, OB Clynelish is a bit diminished from what it's been in the past, but I bet Compass Box would be able to present an excellent example of this distillery from their stocks. I would be willing to pay a significant premium for that whisky. Are you listening John Glaser?
I wasn't a fan of Orchard House. Maybe it is because of all the hype and positive reviews, but it's one of the cases where I'd prefer a cheaper AnCnoc 12. Doesn't have the 'stats', but I'd prefer it any season over Orchard House. I kept getting a bitter finish from the Orchard House.
Rule number 1, don't lose money, wanting something to happen doesn't make it true and watching your video should be to remove emotions and just use logic. I'm in the it's not over camp and like you I'll keep watching for now
I checked the website. The latest "recipe" was posted in 2022, which still had plenty of Clynelish with no mention of Deanston. I suppose it's possible, though. 🥃
Really like the whisky. But I really hate the presentation, to be honest. Bottle shape and color I'm totally cool with, but the labels are really messy IMO. That said, presentation doesn't mean much compared to other factors.
Not an emphasis, it's a short segment and the score's just for fun. The segment also discusses what information about specs, production, casks, etc. is shared with the consumer on the label.

I wasn’t a fan of Peat monster either, but the PM Arcana is outstanding. A great substitute for Talisker 18.

Not quite as sharp as the GG10, with some heavier cask influence. Glen Grant 10 would be great for summer, too! 🥃
