    This video was very useful. Im a guitarist that recently bought a ukulele and I wanted a low G, ive never changed ukulele strings and this was VERY helpful. At first this was a bit confusing but then I re looked at what you did and payed close attention to what you did and I got it eventually.

    Good tutorial. So many say to cute the strings. Never understood that. It just takes a few seconds more. Appreciated the black string too.

    Thanks for the tutorial. I've just restrung my tenor uke with a low G without any problems. Good tip on the best way to stretch strings too.

    You are the first person that has done an excellent job of showing how to put on the strings in addition to the low g. Everyone else turns it to hygiene but says they're putting on a low G which does not make any sense period so good for you thank you so much what strings did you put on?❤

    Lahaina Music
    Ernie Ball makes Ball End Versions of these Strings which make restringing the Ukulele a Snap & they also allow the strings to come over the saddle at a sharper angle which increases the volume.

    Your video is probably the best one I’ve seen I just changed my tenor ukulele strings for the first time and I did not do the cleanest job because it had the wound string when tying them to the bridge wish I’d seen your video before hand lol but I can say next time with confidence I will do a much better job thanks so much

    Black Nylon Strings actually sound really nice on this Ukulele, it produces a much warmer sound.

    I would add that what you called a "Figure 8" knot is more than just a standard figure 8... 😉

    17:40 This is rather interesting. The Low G String for Ukulele is designed like the Bass Strings of a Classical Guitar set in that it consists of a Nylon Core wrapped in Metal (A Classical Guitar D String makes a great Low G Ukulele string too).

    Do you have to modify the nut to accommodate a low G string?

    I heard a ukulele store in Lahaina was completely destroyed by the wildfires. How are you? I lived on the Big Island for over seven years. Miss Hawaii, hence enjoyed your videos.

    I enjoyed this video. One question: when replacing a high G with a low G (larger in diameter) do you need to make any adjustments to the nut grooves? Does the high G string sit higher and affect the fret fingering? Mahalo!

    • @lahainamusic7439
      @lahainamusic7439  ปีที่แล้ว

      great question. The answer is -- sometimes. If you are using a wound low G string, one of the advantages is that is is not necessarily that much wider than a high G string. However, if you are using a fluorocarbon low G, that is often wider and sometimes modification needs to be done. On another related angle, some uke bridges need modification to accommodate a low G. for example, the slotted bridge design on a kamaka concert often needs to be widened. I do not recommend doing this yourself -- I don't actually recommend doing it at all... I left my kamaka concert strung with a high G for that very reason. Sadly though, (it was my Dad's) it burned in the fire.

    I think having Machine Head tuners would make tuning the Ukulele even easier & allow the strings to streatch quicker. Graphtech Machine Heads for Uke are sure to help.

    • @lahainamusic7439

      I definitely agree it makes fine tuning easier. I can tune faster with these, but more accurately with machine head tuners. - jason

    Bridge Beads would help with restringing because they essentially convert Tie End Strings into Ball End Strings for easier installation. It also increases the break angle of the strings over the saddle

      indeed, on certain brands they are almost necessary. - jason

    Do I need to alter the nut going high G to larger low G?

    • @lahainamusic7439
      @lahainamusic7439  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aloha. Sometimes. Sorry this reply is so late to you, but may help another who has the same question. Generally with wound Low G strings this is not as necessary, but with fluorocarbon low G, it sometimes is. It depends upon how the nut was cut on the uke. I used to make such adjustments regularly. Miss having my workbench. Aloha! - jason

    Thanks for this video. Did you need to widen the nut slot or bridge slot for the low G?

    Did you widen the groove that string goes through first, or leave it?

    • @lahainamusic7439
      @lahainamusic7439  ปีที่แล้ว

      In this case it did not need it, though with different string sets, it might need it. In particular, fluorocarbon low G's are substantially wider than high G's. - jason

    • @lahainamusic7439
      @lahainamusic7439  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend using Aquila ukulele strings. Make sure that you find the right string set for your ukulele size.
      Also, just for general knowledge, you never want to use steel strings on an ukulele because the tension caused by steel strings could damage the ukulele. Also, steel strings will not give you the correct tone or feel.
      Mahalo!

  • @RockStarOscarStern634
    @RockStarOscarStern634 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I use Ernie Ball Uke strings which make restringing the Ukulele a snap (the Low G set is built for that Low G Tuning) but it also allows the strings to come out of the bridge at a steeper angle towards the saddle.

    Why don't people do video's of stringing slotted type headstock ukulele's? There's so much video's of these and the one that I did find of the slotted head showed already done and how to do it.

    Isn’t the notch on the fret too small for low g? I saw some other videos grinding the notch bigger. Is it necessary?
