When Jason was once asked about using a pick, he commented that it was about the way he attacked the bass……. This gives absolute credence to the statement….. the attack.
Jason made sure to be the most badass motherfucker in metallica when he heard no bass on this album, proper full on but mutually beneficial revenge on his bandmates
still convinced he “left” because they were jealous. he kept the same hardcore thrash energy as they softened their edge. luckily they got it back in their later years but nothing tops 86-89 Metallica
Jason carried that band, until he was basically forced out for wanting to do other projects, AND also remain in Metallica. Cliff was the right fit for the time he was in the band. Just like Jason was the right fit, for his time in the band. It's just a shame that the others let shit get to their heads. So what, if Jason wanted to expand his creativity?! There shouldn't have been a problem with that. Jason is still king, in my mind. All credit and respect to Cliff (obviously 🙄), and Rob. He's also a great bassist, 100%. It's pretty interesting hearing the unaltered vocal melody over this. Since the music has changed key from E to B the vocals are now playing in E dorian as opposed to B dorian and there's just a note's difference between the two: G natural as opposed to G#, which forms a tritone
For it to drop out in certain parts so you can hear the bass extra lound and heavy is the ultimate middle finger to the original mix. This is a compliment btw 😅
Been a Metallica fan for many years and I love tuning the songs down to see what it would sound like but I’ve never done One and my god this is awesome
I expected it to sound like shit since the vocals are in the standard pitch snd the song is now in B, but it actually fits because B minor over F# are a fourth, sounds pretty good
That's way it sounds like shit. Fourth are garbage here, because it's not just F#, it's power chords mostly. So there is also a C#. B over that is clashing. 'A' tuning would be better. 5th are always better than 4ths.
@@mickeyrube6623 listening to this the 3rd time it just sounds pretty whacky indeed, but not that horrible if they were 3ds or other shit. I agree it would fit better if it's A

Oh man, I LOVE being able to hear the bass come out to play. 💚 It has a unique growl to it vs using a pick. I'd love to hear Cliff's bass in the official version, because the instrumental melody portrayed a darker, more intense tone in that key. Cliff's base is just 😘🤌🫴❤️🔥
Should we consider that technical doom metal ? 🤣🤣 For real sounds great even with original lyrics. Intro sounds fantastic. I fell like this is what Machine Head have always tried to achieve in their career, somehow, musically speaking
Fr. I feel like every remaster of Justice album turns the bass up way too loud to compensate for the original instead of just turning it up to normal volume.
Sounds epic until the vocals come in, they are just straight up in the wrong key. in changing the instrumental to B tuning you've changed it from the key of B minor (E minor at the end) to F# minor (B minor at the end). In keeping the vocals in the original pitch, they're still in B minor and E minor, both of which have one less sharp in the key signature than the new instrumental keys. This creates moments where the melody should be on the stable tonic of the key, but instead sits on the unstable fourth (2:00, 4:34). It also creates nasty sounding clashes that really make the melody not work (the whole "hold my breath" section). You could avoid this by pitching the vocals down by the same amount, but that would create the demon voice effect which I assume is what you were trying to avoid by leaving them at the original pitch. You can avoid this with EQ tricks and formant shifting but I don't understand how they work really. Another way to avoid the problem would be to manually find any notes in the vocal melody that don't fit with the chords underneath, and re-tune them to a note that does work, for example the vocal E on "DARKNESS" could become an F#, the fifth of the B chord being played underneath. This method requires some music theory knowledge and a reasonable ear, and also might not even sound that good, so be warned. The best method in my opinion would be to re-record the vocals. Find somebody, or if you sing yourself, who can sing in the new pitched down key. It won't sound like a demon cause its not being pitched down, but it is definitely likely to sound heavier (more akin to sludge or doom), as you could expect from a B standard cover. Please do try this again cause the instrumental sounds awesome, and I believe it could work really well.
Man, I'm so sorry for late answer. Thank you sooooo much for your review and viewing😊 But it's so difficult for me😰 I can't singing like James, but maybe in future I'll do this😌 But now it's just a little fan cover work. Thank you one more time!
Not that I'm a huge fan of AI generally, but singing along with the song, then using your vocal with an AI to sound like James could work. There wouldn't be any background noise for anomalies in the vocals and you wouldn't need to track down stems for the vocals.

Dafuq with the vocals? It's literally dissonant with the music, and not in the good way. You know if you want the original vocals, you should use other tunings beside 'B.' 'A' tuning should much better. It might be too low, but it should sound best. If that's to muddy, try C#.
