Chicago kept Toews and Kane. It can be done. If 29 and 97 are committed and want to play together, they could take less to keep the dream alive. They don't strike me as the type to cut and run.
One made it to the finals the other fails to show up in the playoffs much less go deep. These guys have a bunch of off the cuff topics in a tumbler and just pick a random topic to cover their show.

How is it that you folks think that Matthews, Marner and Nylander can win a cup without proper support? Without a proper D. If Marner wants to sign for what Nylander is making or a hundred grand or so more, it is utter absolute foolishness to loose a young star player of his caliber. I heard an idiot on a TH-cam show that, if Marner scores "300 points next season" he should be traded regardless. Is that the sort of ignorant, vindictive, stupid and idiotic train of thought that the Leafs would want to built a contender?
I do agree that 300 point comment is just stupid.
Mitch Marner is a fantastic player, no doubt about. He's an all world playmaker and he does a lot of different things for the Leafs. That player isn't who they get in the playoffs though. Maybe it's the home town pressure, but for some reason he just wilts in the playoffs. I think the way contract negotiations with Marner went down last time factors in to how he is judged. Atleast it does for me as a life long Maple Leaf fan. He wanted all that money and I'm sure that factors in to how we judge him in Leaf Nation.
I'm not against having him re-sign but not for a penny more than Nylander did. Ideally, I'd like for him to wave his no move clause and get a fresh start somewhere else while the Leafs recoup some assets for him. Having him walk for nothing would really suck, but we'll see what happens.
Couldn't find any talk about Marner or Leon. Checked a few spots in the video but could not find it. Shame. Thumbs down.
Leon will sign with Tampa or Boston, McDavid will join him a year later after his contract is up. Else they may join Avs if they want to be in West. East usually wins the cup so likely an East team.

The Oilers trio if McDavid Draisaitl, and Bouchard is mind numbingly so far beyond Matthews, Marner and Nylander, its laughable. The Oilers trio is an all time great trio, The Leafs trio is all time choke type trio.

A lot of teams are in this boat. Tampa Bay likely wont be resigning Stamkos. Once you get in a bidding war for your players, its over. Ask Toronto. Can Florida afford Montour? Edmonton signed Campbell, that was their killer. We have Tavares as the highest paid 3rd line C in NHL history. Teams get guys on sweetheart deals but if Draisaitl hit the market? He is getting Mathews money from somebody like NYR etc.

@sachads5322 well Edmonton can not afford the next Drai contract. They have to sign Bouchard. Nurse eats up 9.25 and has a NMC until the last three years of his contract in which he has a limited NMC. Campbell eats up 5 mil too. Boston needs a 1c to play with Pasta. Someone who can drive a line like Drai and dish the puck. Boston has the cap room. They have goaltending and a full team top to bottom with depth. Pasta has already said he would love to play with Drai.

The claim from Mike Johnson, on whether Marner or Draisaitl this offseason would be talked about more (starting a bit after the 20:00 mark), is interesting. Yes it's possible Drai will walk in unrestricted free agency in July 2025 but considering how good he's been in the postseason, the Oilers I'm sure will do what they can to hold onto him and McDavid. Marner has next season remaining on his contract but winning with him as part of the AM34-Marner-Nylander-Morgan Rielly-Tavares quintet just hasn't been the case. No breakup of that quintet likely will mean at best 1st-round exits will be how the Leafs end any given season of theirs.
I would rather my team not make the playoffs than lose in the finals. To be so hopeful then lose hurts more to me than anything.

losing in the finals is what has allowed florida to win the cup this year. it's an insanely useful learning experience for some teams.
