Here are the criteria the AFI uses in its rankings: 1. Feature length: Narrative format, at least 60 minutes long. 2. American film: English language, with significant creative and/or financial production elements from the United States. 3. Critical recognition: Formal commendation in print. 4. Major award winner: Recognition from competitive events including awards from organizations in the film community and major film festivals. 5. Popularity over time: Including figures for box office adjusted for inflation, television broadcasts and syndication, and home video sales and rentals. 6. Historical significance: A film's mark on the history of the moving image through technical innovation, visionary narrative devices or other groundbreaking achievements. 7. Cultural impact: A film's mark on American society in matters of style and substance. Of the top 10 Westerns, kinda surprised Cat Ballou made it in. I guess they don't consider The Treasure of the Sierra Madre a Western, because it always placed in their top 50 all time movies (not just Westerns).
For me... Cat Ballou and McCabe and Mrs. Miller just really don't measure up and don't belong on here...Each to his own and the AFI has their own thoughts...
Outlaw Josie Wales, should be high on the list imho
Hi, Wrangler..., Excellent video and very informative, and "Thank you" for sharing the video ! ! Excellent video... "Semper Fi" Mike in Montana :)
This list just goes to show that the AFI have always had their heads where the sun don't shine.

Have watched Stagecoach many times and I am certain that if Ringo had not been there Curly would have got all those passengers killed.
Magnificent 7

As usual, I disagree with AFI on about half of these.
Meh, Red River is really good.
They pick some bad movies
Which IYO are the bad ones?
