What started as a rained out adventure turned into a really interesting find. The 3 headstones were pretty interesting. I found out afterwards that there used to be a church at this cemetery. But there are no remains to be found. It’s amazing to think what the cemetery grounds used to look like, before people forgot...

Very nice job!! Very respectful. I like it that you spend time READING what you can of the headstones, letting people know that they're gone but not for gotten about.
It was very interesting. When I have more time and a new pad I'll try to list by male/female ...born/death dates, then try to see when pandemics/sicknesses my have happened in their time and neck of the woods.
Maybe something was going around like TB, or deaths by childbirth. Someone would maybe have a record of the Southern Soldier or soldiers. Maybe that soldier could be moved to a National Cemetary with full honnors.

I would be happy to share information about him with you if you provide me a way to contact you. I am sad that you are not able to go farther down the road to the Holloman Creek Cemetary. Regarding the young man who died at Camp Wheeler in 1917........ The National Park Service says of Camp Wheeler during that period "Life would not have been easy in camp, particularly during the deadly measles and influenza outbreak of 1917 and 1918". It is very likely that the fellow died during the outbreak.

Advice from an Archaeologist: take a small, straw, whisk broom with you to brush debris from the stones. As long as you are soft handed, you won't damage the stones. Avoid brushing decaying, or crumbling grave stone.

I went fishing one day and took along my dog. As I was more or less in the middle of no where I just let my dog run loose. My dog was very well trained and had always come when called. That day when I was done fishing I called her and she did not come. I went for a walk and looked for her. She didn't come. After awhile I came across an old cemetery and there was my dog. I called her she looked at me but would not come she was laying down. I thought she was hurt so I walked up to her and saw she was laying on a grave that had a tomb stone that said my name on it and the person who died there died the same day I was born . Very odd

I’ve been binge watching for a while now and am known to stop at out of the way cemeteries when traveling. I know that where I used to live that the cemetery my younger brother was buried at he was actually placed in the “county” cemetery which is behind a huge well know cemetery. So if they are divided, sometimes it’s just different ownership of the land. I went out years ago and put up decorative brick around his plot and have upgraded the area on my own. I also took a piece of printer paper and charcoal and did a surface transfer that I framed and keep with me since I’ve become an adult and no longer live in the state. But every time I go back I’m the only one who visits, I add a bit more. He was stillborn but the nurse in the hospital took the time to baptize him as she was cleaning him before he was taken away. My mother was in ICU for two weeks and didn’t even know he didn’t make it. She was still in hospital while he was buried. I’m overly sentimental and will forever do what I can to keep is space clean and unharmed. RIP: Pierre Renee Lebo norm and died June 20, 1979.

2:16 Those are daylilies, and they're edible. The buds taste a little like corn, they're great sauteed with a little butter, but can also be eaten raw. So if you're ever lost in the woods and starving and you find them, there you go. The entire plant is edible, but the unopened buds taste the best, even raw.

The reason I was given as to why the names are on the backside of the stone is that it is considered at least in the South or as far as I was told from a young age that it was disrespectful and bad luck to stand on someone's grave. Superstition I would surmise is the reason. I remember being scolded for standing on a grave when I was a kid, I did this to lay a flower down and my mother and aunt both lectured me on the behavior. I recently asked after watching several of your videos and my mother confirmed that it was something that she was taught by her mother and father and her grandparents. I think I prefer the old way the stones are.

You would love an OLD grave yard in Lydia SC behind the Red Fez club. Not many people know about the graveyard. It has been severely vandalized long ago and no upkeep has been given. My grandfather is buried there 80+ years ago.

Thank you for the wonderful treks through time. I'd rather walk through a cemetery than anywhere. Ours down the road is full of German stones as it's full of Germans. Do you ever get to Twiggs Co., GA, Jeffersonville? A lot of my mother's family are buried in old cemeteries there. Keep finding those wonderful old stones where people who once lived and laughed and cried are buried.

Yesterday I learned of a Grave yard very close to here where I grew up. It was 17-& 1800'S Graves in guys yard. He & his brother pushed the Headstones over & then Coverd them over with he says
    1-1/2 ft of dirt. ?
I drove over & looked & they have a Garden Growing over it ?
another older lady I know was present said yes it's there. ?
Wow... I could not believe anyone could do something like this.

I learned that they took the headstones up and stacked them on the property but did not take off property if they took any one of them off property that would be against the law.
Learned a lot more about what took place since then.
Like the person who did that was killed on the Graveyard in a building over graves filling a Nitrous Bottle for a Race Car. It Exploded. ? Make You Think. ?

Was this town on the same railroad line as Pineville? When I was a young fellow my brother and I would clear cemeteries like these. Payed by family members of the cemetery. We would start with the family plots and would work out. Not always finishing the cemetery. This would take place around mothers day,or decarection day. Looks this could be the case with this. Cemetery. Sometimes going after school let out for summer. To finish the whole cemetery. This was before weed eaters only hand tool were used. Sure was great time back in the past.

The names on the back of the head stone keeps you from walking over the body to read the names.Reading the name from the back, you’re looking at the top of the graves head, towards the feet.

A spray bottle of water is a good thing to have with you. You'd be surprised how much easier it is to read the engraving when it's wet. And a whisk broom to clear off debris. You can press aluminum foil over the words and they pop right up.

I think having the names/epitaphs on backside made it less likely you'd stand on the actual graves, which I'd assume was a big no no in those days, its still somewhat frowned on today even despite our over populated cemeteries (at least here in London/UK) , so maybe there's some reason to it.

    Ancestors
    By: Anonymous
If you could see your ancestors
    All standing in a row,
Would you be proud of them or not?
    Or don’t you really know?
    Some strange discoveries are made
    In climbing family trees.
And some of them you, do not
    Particularly please.
If you could see your ancestors
    All standing in a row,
There might be some of them perhaps,
    You wouldn’t care to know.
    But here’s another question which
    Requires a different view -
If you could meet your ancestors,
Would they be proud of you?
