    The refs should use the stalling criteria. Carr multiple takedown attempts. Ramirez was being defensive in most of the 3rd period.

    I believe that this is a huge example of the new rules this year. In any other year the take down is 2 score is tied at 3-3 and goes to overtime. If wrestlers want to win more matches need to be more aware of the rule change and how to score more in tough matches.

  • @Slapthematwrestling
    @Slapthematwrestling ปีที่แล้ว +14

    for those who think it should have been two swipes…
    Imed Ar-Rashid Bey you can’t start counting back till the two reversal is given. You could say that “well they should have called the reversal earlier,” but at the same time, Ramirez has no reason to immediately turn off his back until the he hears the official call the reversal. So difficult to predict if he wouldn’t have done the same thing and flip off his back in time had the reversal been called sooner. Only thing that is clear is in no way was he exposed for a two count after the reversal had been called.

      There does need to be a verbal call for awarding points, however, there is no rule that says you have to call a takedown or reversal to start counting near fall. Nearfall counting has to be verbal. Now, you could argue that there is reaction time, and not sure there is a certain amount of time for reaction time which leaves it a subjective call to the ref. All that being said, if you count how long he was on his back, it was definitely two seconds.

    • @fitness4234
      @fitness4234 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if the ref didn't give near fall because he was giving the reversal, then that's not a good answer, but I see this all the time when wrestlers should be scoring near fall but because the ref has to give takedown points they miss it. They should think about modifying this.

    • @fitness4234
      @fitness4234 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know some coaches will argue that you can't swipe before giving takedown or reversal points, but I definitely think you can. In this case, Carr secures the reversal which is indicative of control throughout the whole process, if he didn't score a reversal then obviously there can't be near fall. But I think refs should consider counting near fall even before giving takedown, and coaches should allow this, to ensure near fall points are not missed. If there is no reversal or takedown then ref should say no near fall or no takedown/reversal.

    The assumption of most comments made in favor of missed back points is that scoring is instantaneous, that ISU had an immediate reversal when he turned in. All Collegiate wrestling action involves reaction time by rule. Unless ISU came up behind CU, an argument could be made for an instantaneous reversal. Not the case. There was a turn in then a reaction by CU, then control, followed by awarding of points. Ref's call spot on. Reviewed by video to give benefit of the doubt.
    No debate here.

    • @avidadolares
      @avidadolares ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely not! That negates the reason for the 3 pt takedown...which you have to work a lot harder to get. Also, a reversal can only happen if they are taken down (disregarding when they start 2nd and 3rd periods).....which is why the takedown has to be more important than the reversal. Simple logic and common sense.

  • @dvdly
    @dvdly ปีที่แล้ว

    Here's a result that shows how the 3 pt takedown is overvalued and does not achieve what was intended. If your goal is to increase activity on the feet, you shouldn't reward the lesser aggressor like this. That aside, I suggest doing two things to encourage neutral action without de-incentivizing mat wrestling: First wrestler with both feet out of the inner circle gives the opponent a point. In this match Carr would have had at least two such points. Add to that one of the good rules from freestyle, which is the push-out, but modify it so that the second push-out is two points. Anyway, if you like that 3pt takedown, how about making it exclusive to when it happens within the inner circle. All of these suggestions would negate the need for stalling penalties and make it so that good defenders without a lot of offense have to consider the risk involved in backing up all the time, or wrestling on the edge of the mat.
