I suffered with depression really bad in my teens and 20s now im 36 i suffer with low mood still but fishing helps me so much. Its a way of escape. I totally get the putting on a face. I dont like to talk about it and by making everything a joke and using laughter i am able to avoid talking about something that i cant make sense of myself. How can i talk about something that i dont understand myself. When ever you are feeling down think of the things you love doing like fishing, etc and remember just because you think people don't like you that is not proof that they dont that is ur own thoughts that can be confused due to mental health. I love ur videos and ur a top bloke such a amazing personality. Anyone who is friends with you should feel honored to be ur friend. You are very entertaining and have such an amazing attitude towards fishing and full of great info. Take care and remember you are not alone. Mental health will try its best to confuse u in to thinking stuff thats not true. You never know the future i thought my life was over in my 20s but things have improved in my 30s i am not cured but its more so low mood then full on depression now. Take care and keep doing these videos they are great. You deserve way more subscribers. :-)

1000% on the mental health benefits, my wife has struggled for years and has agreed to go with me this year and I know it will help her so much as it’s helped me and thousand others. I subbed and look forward to seeing where you take us, tight line and relaxed times.

It was great to see someone clearly enjoying his fishing. Not selling me anything. And talking so sensibly. It would be a pleasure to fish and spend time with you. Thanks for that. It was heartening 😎👍

I stumbled across your channel this morning as I recently got back into fishing as a way of dealing with my own depression. Your description of the way it makes you feel really struck a chord with me. I watched it again with my wife and we were both in tears. When I was a kid we called Tench the 'doctor fish'. It turns out that all fish are doctor fish in their own way. Thank you so much. Tight lines and all the best.

      Doctor fish! That's very true!
Thank you for the kind message.
I hope you are enjoying your return to fishing, and its giving you all the peace and relaxation it gives me 😊👍🎣

Steve, you are one of the nicest guys I have come across on the internet / videos / vlogs etc., and I am sure you are in the real world too. Keep safe, and be yourself. I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world, and a long and fruitful life. You really deserve true contentment and peace. The natural world is a wonderful starting place. Thank you. :0)

Hey there, my husband (a fellow angler) just shared your video with me. I am really moved by everything you’re saying. You have really changed our morning for the better and I wanted you to know that! A great psychotherapist and personal favorite of mine, talks about the ‘rippling’ affect -how we impact people beyond our perceivable reach. So thanks for the rippling dude....your message is so important. 🤟

Thank you. I'm so glad I've managed to help in my own small way.
I said to myself that when I started filming my fishing for youtube that I would be happy if I could reach just one person to show them how much angling can help others as much as its helped me (hopefully without being too preachy and shoving it down peoples throats all the time and bumming people out😅).
Hopefully sharing my stories and experiences here and there will help others discover ways to make days brighter in dark times.
      Keep smiling 😊👍🎣

Great video Steve! I live very close to ham green lake, so it’s my go to fishery for targeting Tench in really blissful surroundings. No luck this year yet, but have had a nice Bream, and plenty of Rudd and eels! Well done for highlighting the mental health benefits of fishing too.

Thanks for a great, great video and, thanks for your openess and honesty. I make no claim to understanding depression or anxiety, both beyond my understanding, however you made things very clear and approachable. I agree, wholeheartedly, about being out in nature, for me it is about soaking up the, freely, available energy and recharging the batteries, even if it means an afternoon snooze in the chair. Congratulations on th PB Tinca, stunning fish. Looking forward to the next instalment, tight lines.

Love the videos. You look anxious, don't worry when I do something I enjoy I am always anxious. Willing something to happen to make it an even better experience. It's odd.
Maybe your depression is a hormone imbalance, worth checking. I always feel better in nature or keeping myself busy.

Absolutely loved this video. Really well presented and put together. I love the excitement of fishing the lift for tench. Can’t beat the little knocks on the float and when it starts bubbling in the swim the excitement builds. Keep up the good work and tight lines!

Another great video. These are my escapism and I really enjoy it. You are so knowledgeable about both the fish and location but also that birdsong...so relaxing. Congrats on the tench!

Good vid, i would have gone onto the sweetcorn or pellets earlier like you said you were going to instead of maggots, i reckon you would have had a few more tench instead of the little Rudd n perch. I too suffer badly from depression so thanks for sharing your struggles, it helps when you realise your not alone.

Thank you Steve this may be my next day I havent been there since a kid mum would take me and a mate in the summer holidays we could fish and she could read her book! Perfect 😄 need some of that mental health re charge, sometimes I sit on the bank and remember how little we really need to be happy the day is never long enough before having to drudge back to the sick society treadmill ! I dropped my phone in bathurst basin last week weirdly I didn't even care it was quite liberating infact 😄 I won't be going back there sadly as the imagrants that hang around don't understand personal space and manners one particular guy is there every day I think and makes a b line to sit right with me all day 🙈

Was working close to the lake a few years ago and had a look around looks nice there just assumed it gets hammered as it is a small lake didn’t realise it was 2 lakes

Thank you! I know I'm not the only one suffering, but, when black dog visits that's how I feel. I'm now coming 62 & depression has followed me since the age of 12, I need the release that nature gives, whether out with my bins doing a bit of birding or sat on the bank anticipating the next fish, it's raining, its windy, it's boiling hot or freezing cold, anything is better than feeling that there's a heavy dark blanket draped over me. I am here for anyone who wishes to drop a comment & help each other defeat our hidden enemy. Go quietly amidst the noise & haste & remember what peace may be found in silence....🐟🪱🎣👍
