Man these DTC brands are beginning to make exceptional looking clubs. Really I think TH-camrs like you actually help to make it possible for them to do it as well. Without reviews like yours people wouldnt know about them. Pretty crazy, well done
Absolutely LOVE seeing your take on these - they were a HUGE hit with the testers at the My Golf Spy forum earlier this year (really fun club-building challenge, and each of the testers put their own spin/stamping/coloring on the heads. Really, really cool stuff). Absolutely love what you're doing with all the DTC content, making sure people realize what kind of incredible clubs are out there! Keep up the amazing work!
Sweet review Gabe! Glad to see you get connected with Toura. They're a tremendous company that definitely deserves to be in the conversation for world-class DTC's. For those unfamiliar with Toura, they have couple different levels of irons. The Japanese forged are made with S25 Carbon. This is literally "God's" steel when it comes to forged clubs. Their other clubs are 1020C which is also buttery soft. I believe these specific irons are sourced from their partner Kyoei Golf in Japan. I play the MB version of these when im not playing the Maltby TS3's. The Maltbys are my daily drivers, and the Touras are my weekend "special occasion" sports car. Yes the price might be a little steep for a DTC, but these clubs are equivalent to $2000+ ultra premium and boutique irons. Their delivery and unboxing is second to none also. We did a big review of these on my golf spy if anybody's looking for more info.
Clubs look outstanding. These types of clubs get dinged unfairly by your star rating system. Perhaps when testing game improvement clubs the Distance category should be about getting max distance. For a players club though the Distance category should be more focused on the precision you can carry the ball. A game improvement 6 iron you can hit 185 (but with the occasional shot that goes 195) is definitely giving you good distance but players irons designed for precision should not be downgraded for being shorter in length but rather rewarded for how reliable that 6 iron is to consistently carry 168-170 yards when struck well. Just my two cents to make the overall rankings work best for a wide range of irons. Great content, love the channel and your enthusiasm.
Wow, the playing field of competitive high quality DTC manufactured clubs is getting intense! ...and that can only benefit us! You are playing an important role as Master of Ceremonies getting the buzz going. Well done.
Awesome review. Toura Golf is the bomb. Kyoei forged irons, ground by Toura masters, for unbelievable price. What else do you want. This is Miura feel and quality for half the price.
Kyoei is the Miura that nobody knows about unless you're deep into the JDM market. Their heritage blades are THE single best looking blade ever produced IMO. These and the KCM-cut MB's are just Toura's rendition of that exact same model at more than half the price. So good!!
These look really good. But, I don't think I would choose them over the next closest option from Takomo. Which do you think would be comparable for a cool little head-to-head?
Toura’s look amazing. Probably some of the best looking clubs for a DTC brand. I love that you can get them clean without a logo ( aka blank ) and in chrome or black finish. Come play The Yards course up at TPC Sawgrass in your Play Through Travels channel!
Oh yea forgot to mention they have “the world’s largest skins game” @ The Yards on select Fridays! Would be awesome for you to come during one of them!
They look great but I think the MT mills would be better for myself bc of the lofts if I’m not mistaken the 7 is 31 or 32 and price is more affordable 👍🏽.. keep up the nice work 🙂
great review Gabe!!! as always. My question for you i plat Srixon ZX5 irons and i do like them alot. looking at the Toura... would you compare the toura CB to the ZX5 ot more the ZX7.
Same lofts as my 2013 Callaway x forged 6 and 7 iron, which is two degrees stronger than my old '97 burner tour irons I recently eliminated, lol, so for some of us returning to golf All irons are strong lofted! Great looking irons here for sure, premium really. A true players iron scores low in the forgiveness because of its workability, at least that's what I always thought. How's the sole grind /leading edge on these?
Toura Golf Japan! Interesting! True about the Maltby’s they look so good! I love the satin finish. I can’t pull the trigger on another set my PXG 0211xcor2 set are nice! I need it all looks, feel, forgiveness, performance, price. The first strike sounded great! Workability is a tough nut to crack for most of us we just want straight because we get workability when we don’t want it! What ball are you using Legato? Thanks Gabe
Interesting....I do have the Maltby TE, and am super happy especially for the price. I think a spent about $425 for 4-G and a couple of wedges. They weren't the TE+, just the TE. Best value in forged clubs. At some point, mainly because of your review, I was going to splurge with some Edels. Way down the road. So these even feel better than the Edels?
@LetsPlayThru Thanks for the quick reply. I tend to hit the ball out towards the toe, so I thought the movable weights might be the ticket for me. I've got some thinking to do. To be fair, I need another set of irons like I need a hole in my head. I have a set of PTX pro/Icon combo set, and the Maltby TE set is my back up set. I'm very happy with both. What the hell is wrong with me??
Great review Gabe! Will they kick the Edel SMS Pros out your bag? It looks like you have to buy them from 4-PW. It would be nice if they offered individual clubs. I've started using hybrids to replace the long irons and only play from 6i down. I don't mind the retro lofts though as my Ping i230s have similar lofts. Have you been working out? You look all trim and slim these days.
Congrats on the weight loss. That's fantastic! I retired last year and have played over 40 rounds of golf this year where I've walked the course. I think I've lost about 20-25 lbs and could do with losing another 10-15 lbs.
I have the Tommy armour 845 max right now but I want some new irons around the 300 to 350 mark with a little more feel and stronger lofts do you think the 2019 pxg 0211s are a good set for 300
Only raw blank (no insignia) in stock... the Let's Play Thru rush effect? Lol, you made the Maltby TS1 IM's go out of stock for two months. Personally, I'm a Maltby guy, probably gonna do a mixed set of TS4 (GW-9i) and the TE+ (8i-4i)... but the Toura's have ALWAYS caught my eye. Food for thought.
Listen, I'm building a set of PinHawk single length Irons on Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff shafts with Jumbo Max grips for my Son. They are all 6 iron shaft length +1/2. The PinHawks are kind of the Maltby of Single length Clubs. Still waiting on the grips. Should I send them to you for review??
That sounds like an awesome build. Might be too many variables there with the single length for it to be a good review though to be quite honest. Would love to work with you on something else down the road though.
Just let me know if/when you want to borrow the MB version of these. Don't quote me but i think they may be a different club all together. I LOVE them!
Not much comparison IMO. Touras are going to be worlds nicer and far more more premium. Better materials, process, with tighter QC tolerances. These are hand-finished in Japan. Touras are the Rolls of DTC's.
These are just a different level of DTC than we're used to. Considering that the sourcing company Kyoei Golf sells these same clubs under their name for $2200, $900 is still a fantastic savings. Definitely not for everybody but they're an opportunity to own some of the most premium clubs available at a reachable price.
Trust me (I have both) TS3's feel better than 99% of the clubs on the market. These are the 1% that just happen to be marginally better. TS3 are more forgiving though.
I was digging the design until I realised the "Japanese character" is actually just a T G in Japanese style western font and now it just looks really tacky to me. Shoulda stuck with a Hiragana character I think, but it looks like it plays well.
@@LetsPlayThru you beat me to it 😁. The only marking on the blanks is the club # and "made in Japan" on the hosel. Additionally, these take very well to any electro etching if you decide you'd like to create your own logo or use any Japanese characters, etc. On the Toura website, I have a raw set that they showcased with the MGS logo and I was able to do a rust bluing finish on. I was able to make a 1/1 set. Pretty cool!

TS3 owners in shambles reading that title
Hopefully there is some comfort in that it's just by a hair!
I don’t believe it! TS3 for life!
These are over twice as expensive so I think those TS3 owners will still sleep well at night
TS3 still the kings of this channel 5 stars in each category except workability got 4.5 for a 98 score Maltby forever 😂😂
I ordered a TS3 4 iron on the 8th and am finally getting it next week. Excited to try it.
Would you say this set is more forgiving than the black Maltby TE+ you gave away?

No joke about the heat out there. I've even had to switch to lighter color golf shirts in an attempt to keep cooler.

No I would say single digit only
I’d say it really depends on your ball striking ability. You can be a high handicapper and hit your irons pretty well.
Are you a good ball striker with your irons?
They do offer a split cavity though that a higher handicapper could swing well
I would consider the short irons and wedges for sure!
