    Clearly understood the waveform and explanation, only thing was how waveform of voltage in RL load goes negative form pi to beta .

      It happens due to current flows due to inductive load. See the load current, it becomes zero after some time, if current is greater then holding current thyristor cannot be OFF, it gets OFF after current goes below holding current.

    Sir could you please again explain why the voltage goes negative in rl load? It would be of great help

      It goes Negative due to inductive load.
      Inductive load does not allow anode current to go below holding current so SCR stays ON in Negative cycle and once it reaches below holding current it turns to OFF.

    I want to ask that if SCR is triggered at an angle zero degree then the output waveform will similar to that of diode rectifier.........but my question is how can an SCR start conduction when its anode to cathode voltage is zero...... because for maximum value of gate current a minimum amount of positive anode to cathode voltage is required to turn on SCR.....?????

      It can never get turn ON at zero voltage,
      It needs atleast threshold Voltage which is 0.7 for Si material. Els everything you know is correct.

    sir when free wheeling diode is connected u said that resistor is shorted and no voltage will appear at resistor but how it is possible...

      In ideal case, there is no voltage drop on diodes. So, when you provide a freewheeling path via the diode, you will have 0 voltage on both terminals the load is connected to.

      @@kamanianirudh5157 yeah I know it sounds counter intuitive, no voltage drop but still current flows. It is because, it is an electromechanical phenomenon. The inductor stores magnetic energy on its windings and releases it without having to experience no voltage drop.

    Can you explain what happens during negative half cycle of input when freewheeling diode is attached a bit more clearly?

      When negative half cycle, the inductor is discharging. Taking a loop at the inductor, resistor and freewheeling diode when inductor is discharging there is ample amount of current present in the loop so it acts as a short circuit. When short circuit at that loop when negative half cycle then we can eliminate the negative curve from pi to beta.
      Another way to look at this is, when at negative half cycle, the current will more likely to avoid resistances and impedances in the circuit so normally there's still current present at R and L(which I explained above) but more of it will be at the forward biased of the freewheeling diode.

    Your explanation about load current due to inductor is not correct. Because inductor doesn't charge upto pi duration in case of ac supply. Rather it starts de-energizing before pi instant and that depends on the value of resistance and hence the resistance drop. Only in pure inductor case, the inductor charges till pi instant.
    Give correct explanation and refer some good books.
