My 2nd VW WAS A 10 year old 1959 panel van. I never wanted a single cab or a double cab. I just liked the vans and buses and campers more.

Mate - keeper for ever, the body needs a little but this is probably your best find. 2.7 in there, after market brakes - couple of torches up front - daily it - Must keep the commercial plate
It would be hard to part with a split window double cab. Nice recovery.
I worked as a mechanic in a VW Dealership in Stroudsburg, Pa. in the late 70's,
and this was their "parts runner." I believe it was a 4 door crew cab, but very similar.
When the owner retired they sold it for 400 bucks - inspected, running and driving.
Always regretted not getting my hands on that one, I did have a '57 bug, and a 71 bus.

Yous the real deal, Master of Disaster. True VW Lover, Thank you. I learned how to drive, in a 1973, VW Super Beetle, wit da Automatic stick. No clutch, 😛low ,1,2,3, I think had ,3rd gear. I had a 66 , Square back, 71 Beetle, and a nother early 70s BUG, can't member. 🤪🤫💞

Looks like you might have been able to trade for 3 or 4 cases of Bud : ) and a can crusher. Nice find.
It looks like the original paint !!!!!!!! Even Musti doesn't have one of those. Worth every penny. Stop working on everything else and go see your buddy that does the restoration work and make the truck like showroom new!

Please put your eyewear on when airing up those old tires. More than once I have had an old tire sidewall explode, even at low pressure. I was glad to have my eyes covered. Took me quite awhile to clean the dirt out of my ear one time.

Dear Dubwerks.
This double cab made me think about the Mustie1 double cab. The car was almost finished a lot of years ago and is sitting since then. Simply because of the fact that M1 hates all the sanding/prepping work (I definitely don't like it too). But because you are an expert the following came to my mind: Wouldn't it be a great thing respectively a great collaboration if you finish and paint his double cab? Of course in exchange for work he does for you or 5150mxVW. Or in exchange for parts or whatever. It almost hurts me to remember the unfinished car. So much work has already gotten into it.

Bit late in commenting, but I am amazed at the knowledge of that young 'whippersnapper' Dubwerks regarding Volkswagens. These cars were built way before he was born but he is an expert! Very, very impressed.

Great find and as others have stated I was thinking holy crap don’t dent the roof don’t dent the roof, and when you said don’t tell Jen I thought we need a Jen reaction clip, but then again you’ve brought home many a project vehicle she has to be used to it by now.

Did you get the gates? Very lucky it has the 2 year only front “hump back” front seat and the original rear seat and seat base stand! Those are very hard to find and rare.

I found and rescued some donuts today. They were new, but the find/rescue was successful and ultimately delicious.

Nice find, that's the way a rescue is supposed to go. None of that clearing out trees, fighting bugs, getting stuck, or having your vehicle go into limp mode.
But the struggle gives superior youtube. Who wants to see too many videos like this one

👍👌👏 Nice find, Congratulations 🎉 In my personal opinion the VW double cab is the most useful/versatile type of the VW bus family. Just like all the double cab pickup trucks in North America. I really hope that the engine is okay and was only taken out because of the restoration process. I don't know if you own an engine stand but I certainly hope so. Although a first start can be done while the engine is sitting on the bed of the double cab, an oil change would be quite difficult (unless you have a really big rust hole in the bed surface). 🙈😁

haha, well don't worry , i have a few more easy rescues coming ( sat vid was hot and i was shot for some reason ) but the woods and stream buses are coming
VW must have used a special steel that loved to rot out after only a few years of salt exposure. lol.. Great find Jason! Super rare bus.
