I can confirm that @3:05 that you can enable the CHAMMA switch (not sure if your test version had this) to allow Pin 26 (SELECT GAME Button) to be mapped as an input. In my case, I chose SELECT GAME to be my MiSTer menu button. Which is amazing. I left Select as the default TEST button because I will never use it. I set the core to MVS mode to keep it feeling "authentic"
Thanks man, I try to find things worth doing that arent just rehashes of stuff other people have done. Sometimes I think I have a different angle so the topic may be the same. Everything I invest time into though I’m genuinely interested in. I can’t afford the time to talk about things just because.
This is a really fresh breath of air ... Moving to my first home soon and I will actually be building anormal human person gaming set up with a newer tv and furniture I didnt get out of the trash. At this house, I have a garage with no roofYET thinking literally.... By either way
Single slot neo geo boards are JAMMA. Neo Geo MVS boards are a modified version of JAMMA. Audio is routed differently, as well as a few buttons. All power is the same. Your non working pcb could be a separate issue. I created a spreadsheet showing the differences in JAMMMA standards. 1drv.ms/x/s!AoXz1O933WLfgVgHNj8aBHp86DWD?e=TZcBs
Some CPS2 games use 4 buttons from the jamma edge too. For example the D&D games use it on the Jamma edge instead of from the kick harness. It's one of the annoyances with the Darksoft CPS2 multi kit (at no fault of darksoft - it's just how the real boards are).
Huge fan, man. A little brainstorming here: How many cabs do I need? Got no dedicated cabs yet. Just homemade rigs. But here's what I've got: 1. A Mistercade Addons kit that just came in the mail. 2. A Dreamcast MGCD board and Dreamcast with GDMU. (I may have just lost you because I don't think you are a Dreamcast guy. The power comes from the console, so I think it would have to be a dedicated cab), 3. Working single slot MVS('s) that are not cabs but have been tested via supergun CRT and 15 khz. (These would most likely be replaced by the Mister. Hate to disappoint, you with the hardcore collection, but it would be with a multi-cart) 4. Bitkit2 that will most likely become a Galaga-themed bartop cab. My monitors are a 19 inch CRT and a 29 inch CRT that both do 15 khz. My vision is to make a unique Naomi Universal-inspired cab with rotating and swappable monitors. Cuz Galaga has to be played on 19 inch. Do you know if the Mister makes my Bitkit2 obsolete? The replication is incredible on the Bitkit2 and it saves everything. Thanks and cheers, buddy!
Neo Geo console and the games are really underrated that's why some gamers don't know Terry boggard or Geese Howard only the metal slug series they mostly know
Thanks man. That's kind of the behind the scenes journey/hobby. I try to learn one new concept/trick every few weeks or so. They don't all get used but it's been fun learning that as an extra hobby.
Perfect! I literally just got my first cab, an SNK U4, and I’ll definitely be getting a MiSTer in the future. I’ll stick to real hardware for the Neo stuff, but there’s so much other cool stuff on MiSTer that’ll be great to play on the cab. Even some console stuff would be cool to play on a legit cab...
Don't have any cabs anymore, just crt's, but If I did I would definitely pick one of these up. I hear there are cheaper solutions but this one seems like the easiest of them all. Great info as usual 👍.
Friend of mine is selling a Big Red. Now I am really tempted. I'd like to play more than Neo Geo games though and seems like the controls would be very limiting :(
It’s a bit of a pain initially but you could put a different control panel on it for six button games. It seems tempting to drill and add the extra two buttons for six button games but I don’t think I’d advocate ruining an original control panel.
@@ScarletSprites That is also what I was thinking. I would rathee leave original hardware untouched. Do you have any recommendations for panels? Love your videos btw!
Need to create a list of arcade cores (Top 10,20) for a Big Red. Can't tell you how many times I load up a core and forget its a 6 button or vertical core. I really just need to pony up for two Astro Cities.
I often joke and say that the Astro City is the best Super Gun available. Definitely my universal goto machine for all the random odds and ends I have. I don’t have a dedicated vertical machine though and that’s something I’d like to fix.
I don't have a Big Red but am thinking of putting a Mister in a MVSX cabinet. That is probably as close to having one till I can find one at a reasonable price. I know it is smaller but I have a few of the Arcade1ups it can go with right now. Great video!
I think dropping a MiSTer into any bartop style would be a sweet upgrade over what’s in a lot of them. I will say though that the MVSX’s gameplay is pretty good overall and not especially laggy.
Thanks man, the MiSTer is still pretty interesting to me so it’s been easy to make videos around it. Good luck on the Big Red, that sounds like a worthy project on deck.
Interesting to say the least Scarlet. Glad that James was able to give a helping hand for what he does for the community. I even forward members to him to have CMVS units made to their preference. It does call into question how much you really need flash carts. If you’re hell bent on playing on original hardware then this isn’t going to do much for you. But if you can budge on that just a little, this opens up some really big doors. Definitely the better bang for the buck solution if you consider the cost of a few multis or Everdrives.
Cool video dude, that is a dope option for ppl with one cabinet. My MVS came from tweakers with another game already wired into it "New Lucky 8-Lines" the ppl I bought it from were trying to operate it in an illegal gambling place.
Would you trust the mistercade to run as a board for a homemade bootleg MVS? Obvs just a red painted picade with a dif board but this sounds more proper yet still cheaper than the new mvsx
@@kennynunez6792 Not quite if you want to get access to all available arcade cores/games... You should add a heatsink and a 128MB RAM module. A wireless keyboard and a USB WiFi dongle are recommended too.
I would buy a MiSTercade for my mvs, but I missed the preorder. With jnx adapter, you loose stereo audio. Mistercade has stereo out, but will require a separate amplifier.
Really, anything over the MiSTerCade Jamma edge is going to be mono since it’s adhering to Jamma standards. So the Big Red Adapter isn’t the true cause of losing stereo. I get what you’re saying though. Adding an amp and upgrading speakers is a nice mod for the enthusiast. I’ve been considering it on my Big Red and Astro.
@@ScarletSprites Right now, I am running a separate amp where the main switch (pc setup). It would be nice to do everything through one harness like stock. Maybe can make an adapter like the jnx with stereo rca input.?
You shouldn’t have to since the MiSTerCade setup is essentially Jamma and being routed through the Big Red Adapter properly. Alternatively you could pull audio directly from the outputs on the MiSTerCade.
It’s really dependent on MiSTer and whatever is happening with it. MiSTerCade is just “the vessel” that’s translating everything to be useable in an arcade. That said, I personally adore the menu system. It’s fast, zero bloat, no nonsense.
MiSTer is the project. Mistercade is a hat for the de10-nano. It likely will not get a different front end. However, unlike a pc, instant on/off. Great for arcade.
I am confused...Do I just need this Jamma Mistercade and SD Card for my jamma cabinet or do I need to buy something else too? I am still confused by the whole Mister stuff.
