Pretty sure it was beacuse Grandpa Gohan (with halo) said that he wouldn't have much time left to live anyway, so he told Goku to not waste his wish on him. Although, I can be wrong, I did not watch the OG DB for a long time.
He buried his grandpa and he seemed content in the afterlife anyway.

Fun Fact: The guy who played Piccolo in this played Zamasu in Super. And he was great imo. Talk about a redemption arc.
The best part of the movie was the after credit scene were they show that piccolo survived they really thought they were gonna get a sequel.

@@rjai5003 as far as I remember master Roshi’s real name has never been revealed, in Japanese he is referred to as both Kame sennin (turtle sage/hermit) and Muten Roshi (old master of the martial arts) but those aren’t really his name, more like titles
Its depressing that this was one my first exposures to anything anime related. Pokémon does not count because everyone including their grandma had seen it.

U know what’s funny, I often times see people complain about piccolo and the force thing. But in the show people often forget the have telekinesis and (if you remember) the person who used it the most was cell. However goku used it when he fought nappa pushing him and vegeta back, just a fun fact for ya cause some people don’t remember.

To be fair, Mafuba is what the Evil Containment Wave is named in the original japanese version.
The only thing evolution got right beside some names, is Piccolo choking Roshi and crushing his house with "the force" haha, Piccolo didn't actually do all that in the show but he has trained countless hours in telekinesis lifting entire mountains so choking someone and crushing a house is power wise accurate. That's literally all they got right lmao
Honestly, there are stuff that they picked from the original series to display in the movie (like piccolo's ship, his capability of creating monster, although organic, not rock-based, and some weird powers like telekinesis and shapeshifting (oolong?)) but the final product is so detached from the series that is legit weird seeing most of this in the movie.

To be fair around that time in the story Goku wasn't really able to fly manually, it's a technique developed by the crane school as far as I remember , pretty sure he learned it from Tien sometime offscreen later on.
He does have the Nimbus clpud though, but I can't remember if Goku had it already during that part of the storyline.

In the original Dragon Ball (before Z), it actually takes a ages for goku to learn flight
Also the piccolo "juice" rock monsters is based off of how Piccolo could vomit up eggs. When this piccolo dies at the end of his arc, by goku doing a rocket propelled headbut by shooting the kamahamaya out of his FEET. Piccolo vomits up an egg to try to reincarnate himself. The Piccolo in DBZ is actually piccolo junior.
Fun fact about him killing Roshi in Great Ape form, in the original, before the start of the show, goku kills his Gohan off-screen in great ape 😅

Dude dragon ball evolution was my introduction to anime and I liked it
I learned that these actors researched to be there characters cause they was a fan of the series but then when they learned everything and did all that work the entire script was changed on them so they did not have much time to change much nor train fully to be the new way

Small correction, Goku actually couldn't fly in early Dragon Ball. It was Master Roshi's rivals in the Crane school who invented the technique so he had to pick it up.
And technically Yamcha appears one story arc before Krillin, so you can at least make an argument for including him and not Krillin. Though in that case it was stupid to skip to King Piccolo
And Piccolo does make creatures from himself in the original DB, though granted it was without the juice stuff and they were actually threatening.

I think the funniest thing that watching this video made me realize was that A: Goku is played by Justin Chatwin, aka Jimmy/Steve from Shameless, and that B: Bulma is played by Emmy Rossum, aka Fiona from Shameless 😭☠️

I saw this movie when I was but a fetus and I loved dragon ball. I don't know if it was cognitive dissonance or stupidity but I honestly didn't think it was a dragon ball live action. I just didn't connect the dots. I just thought it was weirdly similar at times but I thought it was a coincidence. At the time I watched a lot of similar trash so I guess it wasn't remarkable. I just remembered that he had Goku's outfit at some point and they had weird hair. No plot to be seen.
Dragon and Ball Z are my favorites. Introduced with English dubs, ended up watching all of it in English Subs- So much better dialog and music. Then I looked forward to the live action. My expectations were not high, and it was way way worse than I ever could imagine. A shame.

Hot take: i like this cheesy movie. It reminds of thosw bad video game movies in the early 90s. Yeah theyre horrible but they have this cheesiness and sincerity that make them fun to watch. Most fans just hate this movie blindly because its not "faithful". But what this movie had was the spirit of dragon ball. Which was goofy kung fu comedy fighting and searching for dragon balls. This movie kinda reminds me of forbidden Kingdom
*high five* I liked GT too. When my mom told me "I like this movie! Is this really dragonball Z?" I lost my shit a little internally and had to explain that THIS ABOMINATION was based on 'the cartoon' which she didn't like me watching because it was to agressieve and bloody. And yes 'cartoon' if I would say Anime she would just looked at me confused. I tried watching it too...with her....and I couldn't. I just forcefully forgot it. Thank you for sharing our pain

I remember watching this as a child and was like this is kinda boring but it’s okay then I watched dragon ball and dragon ball z and watched it again a couple years later and I was horrified. This movie absolutely decimated the story.
I think of this movie just did a small bit of justice and just had its own title instead of stealing off of the franchise. I would appreciate this as a B Rated project

My dad owns a bunch of Dragon ball z vhs and he loves the show so he was super excited to get this so when we all sat on the couch and watched this the real entertainment was watching him lose his shit

The fact that both Justin and Emmy went on to do great things and show they can actually act just proves how bad this script and the direction truly were. They have been great and award winning in other films and series. This does then so dirty.

I used to work at Kmart. My coworkers got drunk and saw this movie as a joke. They were so depressed at this movie that upon exiting the theatire, they proceeded to get even more drunk.

P.S He does care about his relationships, its why he sacrificed himself so many times to protect them , yes fighting is really important to him, he is a saiyan after all. but saying he doesnt care about his family or relationships is wrong, In fact the only reason he turned super saiyan was because he witnessed his best friend dying in front of him , how can anyone say he doesn’t care

I don’t mean to defend the movie or anything but i do want to point out a few things , cause dragon ball have more meaning to me than any other manga/anime
( i’m not from us so if i mention some char name wrong , hope you understand )
- by what happening in the movie , i believe they try to sell the story of king piccolo , not piccolo
I don’t watch the new stuff so i don’t remember how it start , but in the original dragon ball , when goku meet bulma the first time , he still a kid . At that point he strong but he didn’t know how to fly . So bulma and him did travel by bulma vehicle ( bike , flying dish ... )
- cause the story in this movie didn’t make any sense so don’t focus on the timeline of the manga too much .
- while piccolo never have a flying ship , or he never juice out a monster , his dad king piccolo did
He travel by a flying ship , he can throw up egg ( not juice like in the movie ) that born a new monster
- now about chi chi , i don’t really think she trick goku , but this is depend on you .
Cause in the manga , while goku and chichi fly on the flying cloud ( i don’t know it english name ) goku asked chi chi to hug him ( prevent her from falling ) , at that moment chi chi blush , later on when grow up a little bit , chi chi come up to goku ( he didn’t even know who she is at first ) and ask him to marry her , cause in her tradition , when a girl hug a boy , they got to marry each other , goku just go with it
This movie is second, only to the Hellboy “reboot”, in movies based off of things I love that are absolutely horrendous. These movies make me want to hurt people

I hate this movie so much, its actually insulting that this movie was made. It feels like they did less research than M Night S. did for the avatar the last Airbender movie and he even admitted that he only watched like the first 5 episodes and that was it.
Oh yeah... You forgot to mention my favorite part... where Goku got shot, unsubscribed from life, saw his grandfather in the afterlife, was told it wasnt his time, and while being told it wasn't his time to die Master Roshi managed to somehow take one of the most deadly attacks in the anime and hit it with an uno reverse card by reconstructing the Kamehameha wave in order to blast Goku DIRECTLY in his chest above his heart from INCHES away in order to bring Goku BACK TO LIFE only for Goku to use that same move less than 24 HOURS later to win the battle and use the DragonBalls to bring Master Roshi back to life so they have to track them down again... you know just like it did in the anime when they used a one shot KO move to bring people back to life.
I've grown up watching dB almost same age as goku. I was so pissed while I was watching this in the theater wtf
