i don't agree with saif's mother. a child cannot be influcenced by others unless the parent allows it. it's not that parents can't control that. parent can control who the kid hangs out with, what they are doing, etc. it's the parents job to protect the kid and make sure they don;t get influcenced. if a parent can't control something like that, then they are doing something wrong.

Her mother called me crying and I had to call her...I told her to return.

Not every parent can maintain a perfect balance between being strict and friendly. Some kids will still do what they do... my classmate did realise her mistake much later but that's because she had grown up.
My mother, on the contrary never controlled who were my company and friends...never! I respect that.
@@valley-girl when i say control, i don't mean that you have to hang out with people that your mother told you to hang out with. but if a mother thinks that a friend of yours is not good for you, then most likely she is right and she is only concerned for you. if the kid does not understand even that much, then that's their problem.
@@valley-girl honestly, i think it depends of the child. also, depends on the mother. when you say how far can you control a 17 yr old, i'm thinking.. i am 24 this year, and i have always listened to my mum because i love and trust her the most, and i was an obedient and polite and respectful child ever since i was born. my mother was strict but she gave me necessary or enough freedom. she let me go to friends house and have sleep overs but only if she knows my friends well enough. but honestly, i don't make bad friends. pretty sure my mum trusts me but still she always protects me and watches over me. My mother is the best. and i know that whatever she says or does is for my own good because there is nobody in the world who loves me more than my mother.

The most difficult stages are teen and early 20s. 24 is when you typically graduate and though not completely, your personality and character has somewhat taken shape.
It becomes more difficult when you are a working mom and your child either lives in a hostel away from you or lives in a neighborhood with bad kids. The distance, combined with baf company makes it hard for parents.
I know a lot of kids who died like that (in punjab and adjacent states because of drugs). They were not only obedient but intelligent children.
The best strategy is to provide direct guidance and keep the child in the same city (unless they are going to some extremely professional college like IIT or Kota or something similar). This especially helps in north Indian states where drug peddlers are out to get kids from well to do families.
You have to acknowledge that not everyone can do that. There are factory workers, farmers, doctors... parents who live away and get transfered easily, have extremely busy lives...That makes the children vulnerable.
