I attended one of his lectures on the transition from Saxon to Norman rule in England at Manchester University many years ago.
What he doesn't know about this period isn't worth knowing.

Very informative and interesting, a King we don’t hear about very much compared to the more famous dynasties. What a complicated personal life.

I really am enjoying this series. Henry III has a pretty interesting story, and there’s not a whole lot on him, he wasn’t one of the flashiest Kings, for sure. But I’ve found they ALL have interesting stories. Thank you!
Holy cow, I just realized that you’re one of my favorite presenters!🙈 (I usually just listen whilst I do my work, or as bedtime stories🤭). I’m so happy you’re on TH-cam! Brilliant! 👌👏

I've enjoyed Professor Bartlett's documentaries on the Normans, Plantagenets and Inside The Medieval Mind, before now. This talk on Henry III was a great listen and it's great to see that you have several lectures by this man. Many thanks The People Profiles.

I find these videos are good companions to the documentaries, so you have two variations of a documentary. Recommended this channel to friends for a long time, I don't complain about poor TV history channels if I can still find a good documentary right here.

Excellent! I have a much better idea of the conflict between Henry & his barons, & the Provisions of Oxford, etc. I've always had a sort of metal blank about Henry, & somehow, learning more about the events of his life hasn't changed that much- I think it's cos I can't get any sense of his personality whatsoever, so clearly I have to learn more.

I have a question: Was England really named "England" at that time? So we have Counties and the Realm of the Plantagenets. In that sense, I gess we can´t name England as England a Nation...

An interesting insight into Henry3, but OMG, the prof's voice and demeanor brought back every college class I slept through. It's clear that he's well-versed in his knowledge, but his asides, details, and droning on and on slammed my eyes shut.

Robert Bartlett probably feels he could make a good king or great historical figure, yet he’s likely scared of young black and Asian men he passes in the street.

John gets such a bad tar, and I'm not saying it isn't deserved, but people forget he inherited a mess to. The beloved Richard was actually a pretty shit king. He was a great warrior, but a shit king.
