Having lived in Bacolod for seven years, I can attest to it being a good city to reside in. Of course, it depends what is important to you....a younger guy than myself might prefer the bustling nightlife of Manila, Cebu or Angeles, but for a balanced city for Westerners - Bacolod would be hard to beat. I actually live just around the corner from the New Government Centre and I love it there. We can drive out to Bago City, Kabankalan, Sipalay, San Carlos and enjoy something different in each place.....countryside, mountains, beaches..in fact most things. Bacolod has plenty of big malls, many, many restaurants, cinemas, a bar/nightlife area, good hospitals, a B.I to renew visas if you need it, good roads now and crucially....very good subdivisions to find your ideal home. I visited here three times....for 3 weeks each time, before I decided to move here....it has almost everything I need, but you must visit here for extended holidays...not just a day or two, to get a feel for the place. This is a good balanced video and I'm glad you enjoyed Bacolod :)
Hi. I have the opportunity to build a home south of Bacolod, but I discovered that some of the provinces don't have trash collection services and that the residents who live in the far away provinces actually have to burn their own trash. Is this a cause for alarm and rodent infestation? I will be visiting next year and if it's not convenient I may wind up renting a condo instead.
I am planning to retire in Bacolod. Going to visit in November for 3 weeks to try it on. Did a whole lot of research and, for a dude like me who doesn't care for the ultra slow provincial life but Manila and Cebu are a bit too much, Bacolod is right in the middle. Can't wait to visot!
I love how Filipino women cuddle and get close, alwasy touching and letting you know they are their for you, very affectionate and adorable. I notice it becuase you NEVER get that in the modern western world like here in the states. Women are so independent and so-called liberated that they think they are the center of attention and deserve your time, attention, resources and money. This is why I want to come to go to the Philippines, women there focus on the relationship, the focus on helping you, creating a peaceful and happy place, they add value to your life and business. And to keep things balanced, not all Filipino women are perfect, they do have their issues, but it is far more likely you will find a traditional lady in the Philippines then you will in the USA. Filipino women are more likely to be submissive, compliant, fit, friendly, feminine and faithful. They are loyal and honest and will not leave you just becuase you dont spend all of your money on them every day. As a matter of fact, they will help you SAVE money as they value saving and being frugal.
Thank you Gio and Maya for enjoying your adventure through Bacolod. Looks like a great, down to earth place to visit again so have fun during the festival!
I used to live in Bacolod for four years in a subdivision on Circumferential Rd.. and close to Govt Center.,The mascara festival is a must also Chinese New Year is also a big party. Glad you enjoyed there, The only thing I didn't like was going to the Bi to renew my visa, staff there not very friendly and acted nonchalant. Iloilo was nice and clean.
I have been a long time subscriber. I have been living in the Philippines full time since february 10th. I have to say'; you seem so happy and relaxed lately. Best wishes.
I lived there for like 10 months, after Boracay and Cebu City, Bacolod is my favourite city to live in Philippines. Lots of things to do there, all the places you visit I been there many times: NGC (and the bars in Marketplace), The Ruins, The Lagoon, SM mall, the main plaza, MO2 Ice, the waterpark in Goldenfields, Palawud restaurant with an ocean view, lots of bars to chillout in Lacson street… etc. Don’t forget to go next time to the cafes with the nice views in Don Salvador Benedicto. I mention to you about it before in a past comment.
I studied in Bacolod during my college days. The place is a concrete jungle . You can live or retire in upscale subdivisions homes. If you are looking for mountains and resorts nearby it is few hours drive south of bacolod. There is also Mambucal spring resort and La vista resort i think east of bacolod about 2- 3 hours drive. If you like urban life, then I think Bacolod is better than Dumaguete.
I will be staying in Bacolod while my home is being built. I was impressed by the cute little town of Bago City which is south of Bacolod. They have clean streets and a small Mayberry RFD type feel.
Really good breakdown of Bacolod. The 21 Restaurant is a really good place to eat. One of my favorite places in the Pinas. The 7 falls is a nice little hike from the bottom up and then back down.
Hello Gio & Maya thanks for the feedback on Bacolod it sounds very interesting place to visit ,I always enjoy the festivals wherever I am in PH and lucky to catch them wherever I go .take care God Bless you both and your daughter always.
You guys traveled north of Bacolod and took the ferry from another town, which explains why you ended up north of Iloilo and had to ride another 45 minutes to get to the city. You could have taken a more direct ferry route from Bacolod to Iloilo and cut the travel time on the motorcycles or scooters.
1) I appreciate that you're one of the few expats who bother to get the pronunciation of places right.. ba KO load I get mad when foreigners are married to Filipinas and thev still never learn the name of the city they live in 2) I may be retiring there in the Citv of Smiles 😁 3) Maya IS SoOO beautiful. seriously you must be pinch- yourself everyday @-@
Hey gio when u go back to bacolod for masskara festival you should Check panaad park and stadium where the international soccer matches is held..check campuestuhan highland resort and capitol lagoon, wild life and negros museum just across ayala mall and capitol lagoon..have some food in bob's restaurant along lacson street u won't regret ...goodluck to u both..
The goverment has planned for the connection of Bacolod/Dumaguete highway cutting the drive time to half, i just hope they choose the high valley for a spectacular sunset view and mountainous area instead on the flat land for the road, i believe both city are great for retirement for urban to suburban lifestyle, recently the southern negros area was stamp as point for the best in water and diving spot facing Tubbataha reef by world travel magazine which is another plus
Bacolod is better than Iloilo, more progressive in new constructions, it is also known for its Piaya, Chicken Petcho "Inasal" and Maskarra Festival. The City has been called the City of Smiles. Negros Occidental ( Black West ) is known for its sugarcane production, Negros Oriental ( Black East) is also good for retirements like Dumaguete and the Geothermal town of Valencia.
health care industry is comparable between the two but BC have started 2 ground breaking , one have skeleton showing and as tall as 8 story, edit: 7story only per perspective,
Bacolod has an MVP Hospital Group Facility..The Riverside Medical Center(Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital); South Bacolod General Hospital; Bacolod Doctors' Hospital; Metro Bacolod Hospital and Medical Center; Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital; Queen Of Mercy Hospital..and Asia Pacific Medical Center which is under construction.
Gio, as you are probably aware, in Florida the decision is often Atlantic Coast or Gulf Coast preferences. Typically i like the calmer West/Gulf Coast, for the calm waters and also the sunsets. Is this a similar factor in the Philippines? As an example Bacolod over Cebu or Dumaguete due to the West side views? Or is it less a factor, when looking at potential living locations?
Ty for info have fun place did look good 👍 but correct me if iam wrong would it not be hard make judgment on a place either way if only a night or two spent ever just thinking
I love Bacolod too i like the place. There’s a lot of places to explore like campuestohan and mambukal so beautiful you will definitely love it guys 👍 Search on youtube to discover.

I love Cebu so much. but we will visit your arera and ilo ilo too at some point.

I think Maya was searching for the word “infrastructure” when referring to Bocolad. Thanks for the info!

Bacolod from what little I've seen looks great. I would have to see it in person first though. Take care.

I'm sorry but can you repeat what area or what city you said was cold and similar to Baguio?
Were you talking about San Carlos?
Bucari Pine Forest is located in the town of Leon and is popularly tagged as the “Little Baguio of Iloilo”.
Don Salvador area in Negros Occidental also.
Okay thank you very much for your reply. Good info to know
its a 40mins to an hr drive from the city, DSB (Don Salvador Benedicto)is a cool place year round
Fun video
The “mini-Baguio” sold me…..

Looks nicer there than Dumaguete. Is the infrastructure with hospitals and things good?
Yes, You can read more about it here.

It is similar yes. Cebu, Bacolod and Dumaguete are typically pretty safe areas. Samar and Leyte get hit with typhoons often!

Yes, but we mentioned that it was based on only spending a few days there.
I love when Filipinas call a place cold when it’s 82 lol.
