Aberrant DSP has become my go to since Sketchcassette for anything relating to an excellent simulation of different "lo-fi" effects. Digitalis was my main use for a song and the guys I showed it to were so impressed on how insanely deeply you can get a track to get "corrupted". It's also an insanely great echo and granular fx plugin. Love it so much
this is probably great tool for tv/movie sound effects for example.
I love the Classic MacOS motif of the interface. I'm getting MacPaint flashbacks.

Yeah i grabbed this because it looked pretty neat and was the right price. I had low expectations, but honestly it was very powerful as a bitcrusher, signal shaper.

Great review. I can’t personally use this plugin but I use their Sketch Cassette plugin on a lot of my mixtapes and it’s wonderful. This company puts out some great stuff at a very reasonable price.
I know the focus of this channel is the mix/master side, but I do love seeing some sound design tool takes too.

I love Digitalis. Aberrant is great for creating unusual plugins. I picked this up day one and love the results for creating unusual lofi sounds.
i tried this as an effect for instruments but it has a huge latency time. is this fixed?

This is the only plugin that emulates bad skype/phone connection. Very good for sound design purposes (for example video production). Bought it when it came out. The only thing that I don't like, is latency.
But in general, this plugin is a monster, especially with that sequencer.
There is Goodhertz Lossy which has more settings for the Loss section but this is an “fx console” so to speak - if you can get past the latency it’s a great plugin.
Unfiltered audio got also some similar algos

Yeah, making it sound like a bad GSM phone call is an effect I’ve been wanting for transitions and intros for a while. Just an alternate kind of LPF ramp, really, just with more artefacting. I even considered getting someone to call me while they play back a stem and I record the output from my phone. But having parametric control over the degradation here, as well as being easier, is very tempting

Fun plugin that doesn’t cost the whole world. The bitcrusher could be a nice “Amigafier” effect to make things sound like a Paula chip.

I bought it because sketch cassette is so well done and so affordable - I found that product to be of the better low fi tools worth more than its price. Digitalis has been fun for the 10 minutes or so I used it - but I haven't had a particularly fitting project to insert it yet so I don't know what it can do. Nomad Factory Garbage, FKFX Influx, Narcotic by Lunatic Audio, these all have interesting possibilities that prove how much further we can go with creativity in audio plugin design. These are personal creations and works of art in their own right. (BTW it is interesting how different the Abberant, Digitalis take is than something like D16's Decimort 2 which is a "high quality bit crusher"... so, it achieves a kind of high quality low quality, right? )

Nice little tool there! Whytse, how do you manage to get such consistent audio of your voice while the video shows you moving around and away from the mic? AGC, clip gain, overdubbing? ;-)

oh wow, didn't expect that. I really didn't like the sound of the 1040 in your and Bandrews review, but now I guess you can dial this thing in, after all. It is really consistent and the harsh top end is gone. Oh and awesome presentation always distracts ;-) love your channel!

music producer here. i might get this so i can emulate that 12 bit mpc sound. sounds like a useful tool for beat makers.
also look at TAL Sampler, TAL Drum, TAL DAC, and D16's Decimort if you are going for that specific sound

I've got it, I love it. I use it on everything. The only issue is that it comes at a huge performance cost, so you can't leave it live on your tracks and it must be printed. If it were more optimised it would be a 10/10.
Yeah, latency is very big. Not quite usable for realtime playing.

Wytse, you can actually make your Mac OS look oldschool by going to System Prefs, Accessibility, go to "Display", and select "increase contrast" :D Enjoy!

No Not needed this looks great the angle is nice...maybe just look at some post pocessing, a film LUT perhaps easy and does wonders for the aesthetics.

Waiting music through the phone is such a bad idea these days, can not believe so many businesses still do it. The rare time I get silence and a voice telling me my number in the que in intervals, it's so much better.
I mean, most people call from a smart phone and can just go on an app or something to pass the time. At this point waiting music is just an assault on the senses.
