But cheers for CCs going their own way and having a spine for once. They could have solely rubberstamped the Globes or actually picked the critics' frontrunners, but this year they sort of diverted their attentions elsewhere. Stone and Giamatti were Globes winners too though, but in these voters' minds, drama > comedy. That's intriguing. Some other surprises too, like I'm Just Ken over What Was I Made For? in best song, and Billy Crudup winning over Matthew MacFayden. So that's nice, I guess.
I agree..must give award to the best not to make surprise.i like suprise be btween front runner.emma and pual take golden globe. But in critics they dont make two category Comedy and drama So gladstine and myrphy lose
Simple. The funding is more on the ads than the actual show. It does not have same financial backing as the Oscars or Golden Globes, so they have to give big spots to the ads.
@myytchanneldinakoha8498 I'm aware of sponsorship but the production was still crap. How do you not give a winner the right to a speech? What matters though were the awards. It's an interesting year for film. Few deadlocks and a few surprises. Now we got SAG, Bafta, and the Oscar's.
I do think tv awards have a different audience than film awards. You can’t play along with tv awards because watching all the shows is impossible. With the Oscars, it’s entirely feasible to watch all the nominees and make predictions and personal preference ballots
Love the channel. And while it may not be totally in your wheelhouse - hoping to get a wrap-up from tonight's Emmy show (you have had a few Emmy prediction segments over the last months). Realizing of course this a very busy time of the year for awards shows and that had it not been for the writers/actor's strikes, the 2023 Emmy Show would have been in rearview mirror months ago. (And in some ways it is kind of odd that many of the shows in nomination tonight are for performances well in the past - Golden Globes and Critics Choice have already honored TV shows that are "too new" to be recognized by tonight's Emmy Show.)
I think Cillian loosing at critics choice was actually good for him. Because it got the cast, and particuarly Nolan really fired up at the awards ceremony. With Nolans passionate remark about Cillian in his speech, and that picture of him immediately going to Cillian. It will just make universal campaign harder, rather than cruising and getting a nasty shock at SAG.
I know it's fun to have close competitive races and surprises, but I'm there to watch history and witness the pomp and circumstance. I just want voters to go with who they really think is the best, regardless of how predictable it can make the shows.
I think both I’m Just Ken and What Was I Made For? will be nominated. I mean three songs from Barbie got nominated at both Golden Globes and Critics Choice, so it will be surprising if only one song got nominated.
It's become a very interesting race between Giamatti and Murphy and Stone and Gladstone. Hopefully Murphy wins BAFTA thats pretty much likely and SAG is really up in the air. I am not predicting anything right now. Cooper is well and truly kaput there is no way he is winning the Oscar.
I knew GoldDerby and some others were locking Bradley too early. You can’t be sure someone will win when it’s only December and a lot of people haven’t seen the movie yet
Yes I do agree and I am so happy to see Paul Giamatti gets to win Critic Choice Award. He totally an underdog that needs to be acknowledged. Cillian can still have it another time.... I love the Holdovers so much...I enjoyed watching it and it is actually more captivating to me than Oppenheimer....
@@Nishanth_mementomori no. It seemed to be Bradley Cooper and Cillian Murphy. I still think Cillian wins it but it’s a competition unlike director and picture. I think Oppenheimer has it in the bag for the two biggest prizes.
@@Nightsinwhitesatin645 Bradley was never taken seriously though... Especially after Maestro came out, everyone could see it for what it was, a desperate embarrassing attempt at an Oscar bait movie
Shame to Critic's Choice Association for not attach Sandra Huller picture when camera shoot only 5 face of best actress, and she is not get in...!it just because she didnt attent to the awards show, doesnt mean you make dissapeared her picture, right...!?
Another excellent video. This is the first year I can remember in so long not having an outright fave for Best Actor, between Murphy and Giamatti. Re Cooper, I think he is done. Maestro is such an over the top Oscar bait film and it’s such a sanitised of Bernstein’s life. It follows the same by numbers Oscar bait movies of the past, but I think now, voters are becoming immune to such content winning awards and see Cooper’s performance as desperation to win one. No matter how fine an actor or deserving he may be.
Thank you. I think Murphy' chances are diminished by: 1. The film is more of an esemble. Critics didn't go on about Murphy that much. 2. Murphy has played very many supporting roles. The Oscars love breakouts or actors who had at least one well-known acclaimed leading role. 3. By name, I didn't know who Murphy was. Reviewing his previous roles, I recognized many. 4. He's a great chameleon which hampers his recognition. He's like Toni Collette who hasn't won an Oscar. She's my favorite living actor. 5. Paul G has always looked and acted like one's grumpy old granddad or uncle, one can't forget. Sideways and John Adam's miniseries were 18 and 14 year ago, respectively. Both were unforgettable and very acclaimed.
This Paul Giamatti win for The Holdovers covers all the idiocy at the nominations for me. Still, I believe Cillian Murphy is a front-runner to win an Oscar.
Definitely echoing how difficult it is to watch the Critics Choice Awards... I have no idea why they made it so hard to watch it, especially because barely anyone still has cable nowadays
You didn't need cable to watch the show. What you needed was access to live local channels on your smart television; in other words, an antenna, and you could watch the show for free in real time.
At this point I don't see Bradley's finally winning for his performance in Maestro but honestly ever since I saw that movie I'd rather root for Carey which makes me sad because it doesn't seem like either that she would win.....😢
So you’re rooting for PG because he’s “overdue”? This legacy narrative is just insane. Cillian Murphy absolutely killed his role and carried the movie on his back. To award Oppenheimer in most categories and not in lead performance is insane.
Barbie’s Ken song winning best song made these awards hard to take serious... Also I hope that the critics gave Paul Giammati the best actor at critics so that they can give Cillian his Oscar later on...
@@perryjones7771i’m so glad my two favorite lead actors won at last year’s oscars. i was so invested in seeing them win that *this* year, i’m just happy for whoever takes it but the discourse is fun to watch (from my throne) lol
Do anyone know what the hell was happened with The Oscar Expert? I mean they neither uploaded any prediction video nor did they made any reaction video.
I also feel like Hollywood is kinda over Bradley Cooper. He just seems to have fallen off after like 2015/2016. Yeah he still does Rocket in the MCU and still gives great performances but I just feel like Hollywood doesn’t really rock with him that much anymore. But I honestly think Paul is winning the Oscar. Cillian is fantastic in Oppenheimer no doubt and it’s honestly an all timer performance but Paul is just a force of nature in EVERY role. He honestly should be on like his 5th or 6th nomination and going for his 2nd win because let’s be real here, Paul really should’ve in 2004 for American Splendor. Sean Penn is overrated AF
I think Giamatti is going to win the Oscar, and it's exactly for the reason you stated: He should have been nominated, and I think, won the Oscar for Sideways, and that is considered one of the greatest snubs in Oscar history. Murphy will not win on his first nomination, as good as he is. I really believe too, that Giamatti did give the best performance. He is wonderful in The Holdovers.
I wasn’t surprised Oppenheimer won big And I fell you man, The Critics Choice Awards are just for Critics. The Oscars are more important because everyone from actors to production designers vote. Even people like MeatLoaf who recently passed away vote.
I very much think after today that Paul Giamatti is the number 1 most likely person to win the best actor oscar. He has that overdue/legacy narrative kind of similar to Brendan Fraser. Besides Cillian Murphy while being an established actor I'm pretty sure it's his first time being the leading man in a Hollywood movie. So maybe the Academy doesn't give the win to Murphy because they think it's a safe bet he'll be nominated again + Oppenheimer will probably win picture, director, supporting actor and a bunch of other technical categories so they might feel like it's already rewarded enough. Not the extreme "newcomer vs legacy actor" narrative we got last year but a version that somewhat resembles that

While this award is not the best predictor of the Oscars, it does look like Downey and Randolph are heading for a precursor sweep (but can she stop reading her acceptance speeches?).
@@poett8875 It's not at all serious. But it breaks the connection with the audience. A spontaneous, heartfelt acceptance is much better, don't you think?
Regarding the SAG awards, the race is officially over for Best supporting actor. Some people think Ryan Gosling is Robert Downey Jr's competition, but I am not buying it. If Angela Bassett couldn't win an Oscar for being in a Marvel movie, Ryan isn't winning his first Academy award for playing Ken in the Barbie movie. However, we might see a surprise in the best Supporting Actress category. Da'vine Randolph will most likely win the Oscar, but Danielle Brooks could still win SAG. Let's not forget she's already won several SAG awards for being in the ensemble of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. That should work in Danielle Brooks' favor. The Color Purple managed to get into the best Ensemble Cast, which could once again help Danielle win the trophy.
It's crazy that no one has an antenna anymore (another TH-cam film person was saying she doesn't get CW). I have a ton of streaming services but still like my local channels plus bonus channels like MeTV. But the show itself sounds terrible

Paul Giamatti vs. Cillian Murphy. I love these head to head matchups in the Oscars. This parallels 1992 Oscars. Pacino wins for a light-hearted/comedic performance, over Washington playing a historical biopic that's also 3 hours long lol
Hey Brian, do you have a bunch of comments on here so I’m not sure if someone’s already said this and I missed it but it sounds to me like you’re out in California and I’m not sure how you watch TV but the CW in every other state that I’ve lived in Which is about six at this point… It’s not a cable station. It is a basic on air station like ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and PBS… So I’m not sure if maybe your provider is wonky but just for future notice the CW is an over the air network station as far as I know.

Critics Choice needs to take a leaf out of Bafta's book. Bafta used to be barely a consolation prize AFTER the Oscar's until they changed the date of the award ceremony a few years ago to take place before the Oscar's. Ever since, they get all the A Lister's in attendance, and it's become a must-see ceremony
@frankchan5547 I meant in terms of making it a must-see event. Having winners not able to give a speech is ludicrous. Bafta had to make changes to make it relevant of the world stage, which it now is. I'd love CC to be on telly to watch, or at least easily found on streaming services
I am so glad you love "Past Lives" so mush and recommended so highly...I dont know if I would have seen it without your recommendation. There are just too many movies available to watch I loved "Past Lives."
Critics like Grace Randolph who voted, dont like Cillian not coz of the acting but because of the character Oppenheimer. Smh. If people like her vote, i dont see Cillian winning.
@@DanielLazuka- With how Oppenheimer does have more acclaim behind it, Sam Mendes also already won for American Beauty so he didn’t have an overdue narrative like Christopher Nolan does this year.
That’s different. Sam Mendes didn’t have the narrative that Nolan has. And Parasite was a much stronger force than Poor Things is looking right now. Parasite was winning numerous awards for its screenplay and as an international film. Poor things is looking like it’s only going to win Lead Actress.

I agree..must give award to the best not to make surprise.i like suprise be btween front runner.emma and pual take golden globe.
But in critics they dont make two category
Comedy and drama
So gladstine and myrphy lose
Listen we all know what actors Bafta will favor for their choices. That is the shake up
Agreed. This years show production was a train wreck. Few speeches and too many commercials. I don't know how this happened.
Simple. The funding is more on the ads than the actual show. It does not have same financial backing as the Oscars or Golden Globes, so they have to give big spots to the ads.
@myytchanneldinakoha8498
I'm aware of sponsorship but the production was still crap.
I have televion awards in film awards seasion..they take long time...i be exiting whin they announce film category
Very happy for Stone and Giamatti!! We have a race! 💫
Good choose
But lilly gladstine losing unfaire too
And danieal brock lose
Becase two was good
Love the channel.
I hope you do your favourite top 10 movies of the year, curious to know which ones made your list❤
I need he make vidoe about color purple..why film lose when was big
So glad to see it be Cillian vs Paul. God I am so happy Bradley and MIDstro is being snubbed.
I know it's fun to have close competitive races and surprises, but I'm there to watch history and witness the pomp and circumstance. I just want voters to go with who they really think is the best, regardless of how predictable it can make the shows.
I agree we need
the best even if he win all seasion. Not surprise
I dont need to be surprise if lradly cooper win
Becase it is bad surprise
What shocked me most was I’m just ken winning best original song. God i hope more then anything that gets an oscar nomination!
Did you see how Maestro lost in makeup? The heck!
it’s the fake tan lol
Thank You for watching the Critic Choice Awards for me, because I don't like sitting through Award shows.
At this point in time I am starting to believe that the Best Actor race is between Cillian Murphy and Paul Giamatti.
That’s because it is
Wasn't it always that way....
Bradly he lose becase poor script they make to film
One of the worst script in this year with may december
Shame to Critic's Choice Association for not attach Sandra Huller picture when camera shoot only 5 face of best actress, and she is not get in...!it just because she didnt attent to the awards show, doesnt mean you make dissapeared her picture, right...!?
Why they put her when we will not watch her reaction
Another excellent video. This is the first year I can remember in so long not having an outright fave for Best Actor, between Murphy and Giamatti. Re Cooper, I think he is done. Maestro is such an over the top Oscar bait film and it’s such a sanitised of Bernstein’s life. It follows the same by numbers Oscar bait movies of the past, but I think now, voters are becoming immune to such content winning awards and see Cooper’s performance as desperation to win one. No matter how fine an actor or deserving he may be.
Maystro bad film
Photoo not film
Same tar no story
Love the videos, man. Keep it up!!!
Thank you.
I think Murphy' chances are diminished by:
I agree number 1 ✔right en
This Paul Giamatti win for The Holdovers covers all the idiocy at the nominations for me.
Still, I believe Cillian Murphy is a front-runner to win an Oscar.
Pual jiamatii front runner to oscar
Cillin front runner to bafta
Definitely echoing how difficult it is to watch the Critics Choice Awards... I have no idea why they made it so hard to watch it, especially because barely anyone still has cable nowadays
You didn't need cable to watch the show. What you needed was access to live local channels on your smart television; in other words, an antenna, and you could watch the show for free in real time.
Critics sooo dark light
And same sag color light and dicoration
Must one be defrent
At this point I don't see Bradley's finally winning for his performance in Maestro but honestly ever since I saw that movie I'd rather root for Carey which makes me sad because it doesn't seem like either that she would win.....😢
So you’re rooting for PG because he’s “overdue”? This legacy narrative is just insane. Cillian Murphy absolutely killed his role and carried the movie on his back. To award Oppenheimer in most categories and not in lead performance is insane.
Cillian was one note for the entire film. I blame Nolan for that tho. Bradley Cooper was just doing mimicry. Paul Giamatti deserves it.
@@armando5846 not really
Barbie’s Ken song winning best song made these awards hard to take serious... Also I hope that the critics gave Paul Giammati the best actor at critics so that they can give Cillian his Oscar later on...
Different groups of voters...
Barbi they make it win for audiance
I don't care about Murphy not winning all the awards, as long as he get the Oscar.
Him and Gladstone better win.
@@perryjones7771i’m so glad my two favorite lead actors won at last year’s oscars. i was so invested in seeing them win that *this* year, i’m just happy for whoever takes it
but the discourse is fun to watch (from my throne) lol
@perryjones7771stone is far better in performance wise than gladstone. Paul is better
I’m just hoping for a Murphy and Gladstone win. I need it what they did in their respective movies were phenomenal.
Still in february bafta and sag
So not the end
Do anyone know what the hell was happened with The Oscar Expert? I mean they neither uploaded any prediction video nor did they made any reaction video.
Never trust anyone who has the audacity to call themselves ‘expert.’ Even actual experts don’t call themselves that.
They make two now
The awards were live streamed on TH-cam, not sure why you had trouble finding it
Just red carpet
I wasn’t surprised Oppenheimer won big
And I fell you man, The Critics Choice Awards are just for Critics.
The Oscars are more important because everyone from actors to production designers vote. Even people like MeatLoaf who recently passed away vote.
The Critics Choice awards are not for critics but for fans. It is not an actual critics group but made up of press and youtubers.
Not the extreme "newcomer vs legacy actor" narrative we got last year but a version that somewhat resembles that
I agree and pual jiamatti better than cillin...becase cillin he was not suit to role.i dont feel he is oppnhimer and dont tell us story of charachter..he was one in group acting

Bafta nomnation after one day.
While this award is not the best predictor of the Oscars, it does look like Downey and Randolph are heading for a precursor sweep (but can she stop reading her acceptance speeches?).
Oh no😅 come on its her first time
. Give her a break
@@Bbvb579 She's an actress...she can certainly memorize a speech!
Lots of actors do that. It’s not that serious.
@@poett8875 It's not at all serious. But it breaks the connection with the audience. A spontaneous, heartfelt acceptance is much better, don't you think?
I hate when davine read from paper sooo bad when speech easy to say without paper
very happy for Greta Gerwig & Noah Baumbach
I agree, we had a very hard time finding this.
The Holdovers is picking up steam and so excited for that
There are so many categories. they were announcing 2 winners at the same time
I hate when they give some awards in red carpet
Same domanic sessa win
I hope Emma stone won the second oscar for best actress.....she deserves more than Lily Gladstone.....now she won golden globe and critic choice , next sag and bafta hope she win this award.

TH-cam has a "watch live TV" feature. I recommend that for future live events like an awards show.
Right and youtuber make livestreem when they watch the show
I tend to think Paul Giamatti will win the Oscar, deservedly, I hope Oppenheimer will get Oscar for best picture and best director...
Hulu live includes the CW for future reference. I mostly have it for TCM.
The correct Barbie song won.
Danke!
Where are you located? The CW is a local channel in most places
Good analysis.
I think Emma's performance is by far the greatest of 2023 ... unfortunately due to political and social issues they are going to give the Oscar to lily ... don't get me wrong she was great , but I think Emma's deserves the award
lily has been winning. alot more critic awards than emma this season. i was surprised that she didn't win here. but she definitely will win at sag and oscar, like you said she has a very strong narrative going for her. sag and and oscar love narratives. it happens to michelle yeoh last year.
Don’t count out Emma Stone just yet. I think she might win.
Only if Cillian had that "Oscar reel" scene.
I know it’s like well did he have a breakdown cry? Yelling scene check? Subtle tear drop? 😮 requirements that voters came up with
Highly appreciated his subtley and the scene at the rally was horrifying equally because of the direction, effects and his performance 🎉🎉
As it looks, I don't see any competition. Hopefully the BAFTAS throws us a curveball!

I’m sorry, and excuse my ignorance, but how do you not have The CW? 😅
I have Sling but I also have an antenna..which I was able to watch!
The CW is a broadcast channel you don't need cable! Do you live in some remote place? Also, why does Awards Contender only cover feature films? Television wins awards too. The Emmy Awards was presented Monday night on FOX ... don't tell me you live in a place that doesn't get the FOX network! 😂
Paul Giamatti vs. Cillian Murphy. I love these head to head matchups in the Oscars. This parallels 1992 Oscars. Pacino wins for a light-hearted/comedic performance, over Washington playing a historical biopic that's also 3 hours long lol
Ugh yeah but I think Denzel was soooo robbed 😮
fuck biopics. 4/6 cca nominees for best actor this year are from biopics. it’s so boring
Academy love black comedy when be good
Mee too, I love Paul and Cillian so I will be happy whoever wins ❤
Cillian is much more deserving of the award his performance was everything
They give him ( ensamble)award
Pual jiammati was amazing mix drama with comedy
Hey Brian, do you have a bunch of comments on here so I’m not sure if someone’s already said this and I missed it but it sounds to me like you’re out in California and I’m not sure how you watch TV but the CW in every other state that I’ve lived in Which is about six at this point… It’s not a cable station. It is a basic on air station like ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and PBS… So I’m not sure if maybe your provider is wonky but just for future notice the CW is an over the air network station as far as I know.
I genuinely need someone to wipe my tears for how I'm gonna have to close the campaign for Milo Machado Graner...😭 unless an absolute miracle happens...
In what way? The timing of awards shows this season is out of kilter, but most A listers were there at CC
@frankchan5547 I meant in terms of making it a must-see event. Having winners not able to give a speech is ludicrous. Bafta had to make changes to make it relevant of the world stage, which it now is. I'd love CC to be on telly to watch, or at least easily found on streaming services
What about Margot? It would be exciting to see Margot throw a curveball like Jaime Lee Curtis did come Oscar night
Deadass I could see that.
Would LOVE to see Margot & Cillian WIN at Oscars.

Aren’t you being contradictory ? Awards should be given for best performance but if the best performances keep on winning then it’s boring? 🤔
I agree
Critics like Grace Randolph who voted, dont like Cillian not coz of the acting but because of the character Oppenheimer.
Smh.
If people like her vote, i dont see Cillian winning.
Wtf did she vote for Hopkins as Hanibal Lector lol? 😂
I don't know why but I feel like the Academy may go with Yorgos Lanthimos…similar to how Sam Mendes won every precursor but not the Oscar
Sam Mendes’s work on 1917 simply wasn’t as impressive and outstanding as Nolan’s work on Oppenheimer
@@DanielLazuka- With how Oppenheimer does have more acclaim behind it, Sam Mendes also already won for American Beauty so he didn’t have an overdue narrative like Christopher Nolan does this year.
It’s Nolan’s year. I wouldn’t bet against him.
@@DanielLazukaYou’re right. Sam Mendes is far and away a much better filmmaker than Nolan
That’s different. Sam Mendes didn’t have the narrative that Nolan has. And Parasite was a much stronger force than Poor Things is looking right now. Parasite was winning numerous awards for its screenplay and as an international film. Poor things is looking like it’s only going to win Lead Actress.
