ヤブガラシの花で吸蜜するジャコウアゲハ 20240709

学名: Atrophaneura alcinous 又は Byasa alcinous
場所: 岐阜県多治見市
いつものジャコウアゲハの発生地で、ヤブガラシの花の蜜を吸っている蝶を見つけました。
薮に蔓を巻きつけて枯らしてしまうほど増えるので「薮枯らし」と名前がつくぐらいやっかいな雑草ですが、虫にとっては最高の吸蜜源です。
花の時期も長く、これほど虫が来る花を他に知りません。
At the usual breeding ground for the Chinese Windmill, I found a butterfly feeding on the nectar of Causonis japonica (yabu-karashi) flowers.
This vine is named "yabu-karashi," meaning "one that withers bushes," because it grows so aggressively that it can kill surrounding bushes.
It is a troublesome weed but an excellent nectar source for insects. Its flowering period is long, and I know of no other flower that attracts so many insects.
