  • This week's Webisode Wednesday is the second in a series of tutorials, mostly centred around playboating, both in modern and oldschool kayaks.
Over the next few weeks, look out for sternstalls, lean cleans and loops! I'm also going to experiment with some gear reviews too. And if you have any suggestions of videos you'd like to see, feel free to let me know in the comments.

Brilliant thank you. I've managed to link two ends but havent got the 3rd one yet. Its cold up here in Scotland but flatwater freestyle is all I've got right now so I'm gonna see if I can get a bit further with it. WIll give the bow stall a shot as well. These videos are really good

Thank you so much. Well done for powering on through the cold. Check out my winter training video if you need further inspiration/motivation to keep going through the cold months!

Thanks for the video. Can you recommend a freestlye boat for a 6ft tall person please?

Thanks Carl. Most companies make a range of sizes nowadays - the best options is to demo a few and see what you like. The Exo Helixir is a great boat, as is the Pyranha Jed. Jackson also pride themselves on making boats to suit people of all sizes! Have a try of a few and see what suits you best!

Please could you do a video going through a flatwater session including, warmups and training exercises?

There are videos talking about exactly those topics already on the channel! Check them out!

Also from Scotland, dont suppose you come up this way? If you did I would be interested in a few day's coaching on freeriding/playboating on some dam release rivers like hte Garry or Moriston

I do head up to Scotland on occasion, though I don't currently have anything in the calendar. I'll keep you posted.

Every hour spent in a boat is a good hour, no matter the environment! It all helps to make a more well-rounded paddler.

Flatwater is a great controlled environment to learn tricks before hitting moving water, especially for beginners or someone who is more comfortable learning at a more forgiving pace

Great tutorial. I like how your paddle is just floating somewhere behind you at the end.

Thanks For fantastic instructions, have you done any on the back deck roll or rolls in general , how you come up and finish both with your paddle roll and hand roll , could you explain your technique for finishing the roll the way you do 👍🏻

Thanks Colin. I really appreciate the comment; it always blows my mind that people are still watching and enjoying my older vids! Yes, I've got a handrolling video coming out next Monday, but I can also do a more in depth rolling video at some point. What exactly about "my roll" (if I can call it that!) would you like to see?

Thanks Mathew , I have a solid enough roll , but you come up in the forward position and you don’t seem to set up , so just what your doing to make this happen , also I have recently managed to achieve the back deck roll but struggling to fining in the forward position also . I finish leaning back which doesn’t seem right 🤷‍♂️ hope this all make sense, thanks again 👍🏻

@@colinbolger9645 yeah, that all makes lots of sense. I'll attempt to address that stuff in a video.

Is that a wood paddle? 😮

The shaft is wooden, but the blades are glass.
