X-Men was in 2000. In 2003 they made Hulk, which got a sequel. That's not 64 years. That's 3 years. Iron Man, Blade, Fantastic Four, Punisher, Thor, Captain America, Ghost Rider, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, Black Panther, Deadpool, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, and Captain Marvel would all get sequels within the next 20 years. That's 14 non X-Men, non-Spidey headliners in 20 years. That's an amazing pace. And yes Spidey did appear as a side character in some of those, but he was never the main character. He was a toss-in. Going back to DC movies, the first one was in 1951 with Superman. In the next 20 years they made one other movie, the original Batman in 1966 with Adam West. It was anything but a serious movie. Then 22 years after that they started getting serious in 1978 with only Superman. It would be another 42 years in 2020 when they would give any non-Supes, non-Bat a sequel, and that was the (Suicide Squad) Harley Quinn movie. DC comics started decades before Marvel. First Marvel sequel other than X-Spider was 2002 with Blade II. First DC sequel other than SuperBat was in 2020 with Harley Quinn Birds of Prey. Both in relative terms and absolute terms, Marvel was by far more eager to give other heroes a try and even bring them back than DC. What about non-sequels? DC made Swamp Thing in 1982.
