Just FYI, Hessian Peel kicks you in the face, and while you're trying to figure out what just happens, it punches you in the stomach, then quickly gives you a hug, but right when you think everything will be ok, it kicks you in the face AGAIN.
Congratulations, you've now listened to one of the heaviest Opeth songs they've done. Watershed basically starts really heavy and progressively (!) get less heavy for each song. After this album there's no growling super heavy stuff.
Hessian peel, I'd argue is heavier this .. it really doesn't matter though. Blackwater Park is still the heaviest song and album and the watershed moment
Zitronenparty, you are the best!!! Thank you so much for this, and the upcoming Hessian Peel & Baying of the Hounds (possibly) request too.💕 Luke, the guest female vocalist is the girlfriend of this particular drummer, Martin Axenrot. Sadly, he has since left the band. Loved your reaction. ❤ I had a feeling you'd really like these 2. Thank you for doing them together. I have no doubt you'll love Hessian Peel and Baying of the Hounds as well.
This is why I love Opeth. Delicate, “tender” opener and then they hit you on the head with a sledgehammer! Depth and dynamics. Watershed is such a punchy sounding album.
Opeth is one of the most brilliant bands, technically and musically absolutely adept, but in this song, which is one of their masterpieces, they have perfected the mixture of playful and brutal parts, of filigree calm and aggressive speed.
Mikael have mentioned how he considers the drummer being of vital importance. (Not that any musician in the band is second-rate.) Here it is excellent Martin Axelrot replacing excellent Martin Lopez. Current drummer isn't cought on album yet.
Btw, Watershed is the first album where Opeth fully integrated a keyboardist into the band. Well, they did it in Ghost Reveries, technically, but he came in late and the music was already written, so it's mostly additional ornamentation there. From here on, these atmospherics became a core part of the sound. You can hear it even here, despite Heir Apparent being heavy as hell. You'll really feel it in Hessian Peel, though. Looking forward to that, your takes are always interesting and eloquent.
Excellent reaction. Nice to hear a commentary of a depth which does justice to this band. Still saddens me to think what happened after this album, but that's just my opinion.
Thank you!! Really appreciate the kind words. So far I have enjoyed the newer things I have heard, but to each their own for sure. Music that blows some people away just won't do it for the next person.
Hey man, if you appreciate the drum parts of song then I recommend you to go back to your favourite Opeth album, Ghost Reveries, and enjoy the song "The grand conjuration". Some cool drumming on that song.

When it comes to live performance, they have done Cusp of Eternity + Heir Apparent, which also is a good match.
Very much true.
Heir apparent is a masterpiece. About 10 minutes heavy music it is and you will not be bored 💖💖💖

Thanks!!!
Blows my mind that it would just go away after this. A bit like Leprous after The Congregation.

So glad you liked it! Other two are recorded...should have those ready to roll out soon!
@@RightManWrongPlace Wonderful, I'm definitely looking forward to them.

No doubt. I've really enjoyed this journey so far!

Best combination of songs you'll ever get 🤘
It was great!
Great reaction!
Opera is an awesome band to listen to, and a song of theirs that’s also awesome is Beneath the Mire.
Thank you for the suggestion, and for watching. :)
Auto correct played a trick there? 😅
You might need a self-learning keyboard (or write Opeth more often 😉)

Ahhh, I need to read the wiki to see who is the drummer for each album then. Thanks!
in 2 months you will be an hardcore opeth fan !!! cheers

Thanks for the kind words. Hessian Peel was definitely an experience!
Video will be out tomorrow at 9:00 AM Central.

I believe the female singer (Nathalie Lorichs) is the girlfriend of the drummer (Martin Axenrot) on that record.
Very cool!
Yuppers!
Thanks. :)

Don't have to tell me twice! Most of my favorite music is in my favorites because of the drums.
Great reaction, althoung The Lotus Eater is a must, I think Hessian Peel is the next song you should listen to from the same album
