I built this and it is a magnificent model. It made me buy more Accurate Miniatures because of the quality and engineering in the build. Their SBD, Devastator and Avenger are equally stunning, inside and out. That Avenger turret was an adventure. One note on the white tape on the Vindicators, It was medical tape used to bond the fabric together because it was all the Marines had to work with. The patterns mean nothing because they were random repairs, even on the same plane at different times.
Yup, I can name that tune in 5 notes. I helped lug speakers in behind the screen of my grandfather's theater for the Sensurround(tm) they used for th eaudio on the movie. We got to listen to this track over and over again as they balanced it out (and argued on how to cope with the reverb off the balcony, both above and below). Beautiful build.
Great looking job! However I was disappointed that there was no narration. I have this kit (unbuilt) and was hoping to get some insight into how it went together, potential problem areas and what you might have done differently with 20/20 hindsight.
Hi Max, this is really beautiful work. I recently learned that my great uncle (PFC Edby Colvin) was the gunner on this specific Vindicator (#6) that your model represents. He and the pilot (2LT James Marmande) disappeared on their way back to Midway on June 4, 1942 after attempting to bomb battleship Haruna. I’d be very interested in acquiring this model you’ve built if you’re ever willing to part with it. Let me know if there’s a good way to contact you.
Would have been a beauty with a larger engine & props. The looks are tops. Same issue with the Devastators. I guess you have to be a little slow dropping torpedoes but, I would rather throttle down to drop & be able to go zippy again. People are always stupid. No matter what era. I adore a Vindicator. I just hate that under power & two bladed prop crap. Good job by the way. How did you like that cockpit assembly? Yeah,... I've done one. Pre-war. That cockpit was intense.

Thank you, it is my personal opinion that Accurate Miniatures quality was equal if not better than Tamiya. But than again what do I know.
My uncle John was a dive bomber pilot in the Marines during WWII. I bet that's what he flew.
