yes, definitely. this game was so unbelievably good. especially the mission editor. but also all the other attention to details. the little ejecting dude.. the damage to your plane, etc.
I use to play/love this game. I had already served in the Navy as an electronics tech with an F4 squadron (VF21 Freelancers, who's insignia is on the tale). Made two cruises on the range, first one Vietnam era.
I played this game as a teen in the 90s before I joined the Navy and became an Aviation Electronics Technician with AIMD, then fixed F-14 Tomcat avionics. Two cruises also; first in the Gulf for the Shock and Awe on the USS Constellation and the Attack on Falluhjah on the USS John F Kennedy aka Just Fucking Kill me (the "m" is silent).
I always think the autopilot is cheating when landing. When I do with the same IAS, attitude like the A/P does, I get stall! But the A/P can land it nicely
One of my favourite games in the past. I've loved to play quick battles with as many planes as possible. And destroying ground structures with AC130 Spectre :)
I tried to run this on a newer computer with a 2GB DDR3 graphics card and 2gb of RAM and the water does not look right, Its all red and yellow and blue. The sky looks normal. This used to work on an old computer. What am I missing?
i STILL play this, as part of fighters anthology... i my favorite game when i was growing up... reading the massive manual- and my all time fav mission - the night strike on the shipyard in the F18D's think ill go fly around now!
Is it possible to get higher resolution than 640*480 and retain the Cockpit? Also, this game runs WAY too fast on my PC...it's impossible to play that way.
Ive not got it to run since 98. It never ran on XP,7,or 10 =(. So I haven't even got it to run since I was like 14 years old in 2004 when we got our XP computer.
For those playing the game (Fighters Anthology, the last installment of USNF), come to my website myplace.frontier.com/~usnraptor/ and upload the usnraptor playset for vast improvements to aircraft, weapons, missions, and campaigns, including new campaigns.
It was too "real" to have music. Well it had a loop music of about 4 minutes that changed according to the status of the mission, but wasn't meant to add thrill
USNF was singleplayer then they hacked a multiplayer addon and then USNF 97 came out with built in multiplayer. I think it was 8 people and could play opposing sides.
The golden era of flight sims. Jane's had the perfect mix of fun and realism imho.

1998 still in my memories
I played silent hunter religiously, because of that game I became a submarine!
I know the feeling too! For me Super Mario was my childhood’s dream game.
Became a plumber of course....!
the hours i spent playing this, and Chuck Yeager's Air Combat before this one. Damn.

I wanna cry man... my childhood is passing by as I look at this video!!!
EXELENT MEMORIES!
Its as soon as I hear the sounds that I get a tear in my eye.. Still going back to this in 2021
Holy wtf this has aged incredible well. I loved this series when I was a kid, Jane's was the shit.
I love how the bomb didn't destroy that first bridge entirely , but shooting it with the machine gun folded it into the ocean!!
this game was actually good for its time... damn...
I got a joy stick controller and this game for my birthday one year 😁 such a great flight sim!
I remember loving the landing on the carrier tutorial in fog so much that that's all I did..... so much fun !!!
I always think the autopilot is cheating when landing. When I do with the same IAS, attitude like the A/P does, I get stall! But the A/P can land it nicely
I love the Rio voicing he's so enthusiastic
I'm glad so many people made their dreams because of a game.
This was my Childhood. Glad to see it again
I played USNF and USNF 97 soo much as a kid, I love this game!
One of my favourite games in the past. I've loved to play quick battles with as many planes as possible. And destroying ground structures with AC130 Spectre :)
I played when I was 12, and now I am heading to my 40....
Thanks for the video. I miss quality lite sims like this. As much as I detest EA, they did a great job with the Jane's series back in the day.
Wow. I was in love with this. I think I still am
Lotsa memories. I fly DCS now, amazing how much it's advanced.
Man I use to play this religiously after school.
LOVED this game to death! Never really knew what I was doing, but I would create massive aerial battles!
I can't even begin to comprehend how much time I spent playing this game when I was 6.
i remember you could just go and go forever on these maps there was no end..that was the best part
Just came back to watch this video again. I completely forgot i left this message 11 years ago.
Awesome ❤
I do that too. 😂
Anything out there in the market that is comparable to this game that is a recent release?
@@alexfair DCS World
They need to remake this game for windows 10
Do you mind if I use a clip of this in a documentary I'm making

So, it turns out it was the original 1994 I played.
Loved that game
those were the days
That was my favorite game back then. I had that expansion with the newer aircraft like the Warthog and stuff.
i STILL play this, as part of fighters anthology... i my favorite game when i was growing up... reading the massive manual- and my all time fav mission - the night strike on the shipyard in the F18D's think ill go fly around now!
"Oh yeah"
That voice acting is SO much better then Thirdwire's Strike Fighters VA.
Good Memories 👍🙂

JLR from RMG sent me here.
still more realistic than Ace Combat
You're so much better than I was when I was 8.
Love the game
i have ATF and fighters anthology but i cant find USNF 97....
Attacking ground targets with iron boms in face of those .50 is a bitch
so many memories...
@USARMz hey i just got my copy of USNF'97 today from my dad i can run it and everything but the color is not so good its like glichted
hmm im having trouble remembering whether it was this or the 1994 one i was playing when i was a kid.
I love this game!
Man! Where is the music?!
Awesome. Except to the best of my knowledge, at the time this was based the phantom wasn't fitted with a cannon. Missiles only.
I'm pretty sure they had pods at this stage.
Will this run on my modern PC?
Ive not got it to run since 98. It never ran on XP,7,or 10 =(. So I haven't even got it to run since I was like 14 years old in 2004 when we got our XP computer.
@@RobotWillie It even had problems with WIndows 98 SE...I am playing it now on Pentium 133 with windows 95 with no problems..
its vietnam, isnt it?
I need to download this game!!! Any ideas...?
Not much of a download link anywhere. It's one of those games that you need to find the CD for.

I fucking loved this game so much
I learned flying in this game;)
I know the problem. Kill explorer.exe, and then start the game with the task manager. There's some problem with Windows 7 colour scheme.
Such a great game
still a better game than acecombat
What we need is this with multiplayer.
xdddaaxxdd
I believe this did have multilayer capability.
USNF was singleplayer then they hacked a multiplayer addon and then USNF 97 came out with built in multiplayer. I think it was 8 people and could play opposing sides.
Haha...good old times...
great game!
I was 8 ;)
