You missed noticing around 2:50 the topiary birds on the bank up to the tea estate. The estates are really very beautiful, the way that they are laid out, it make the landscape exceptionally lovely and tranquil. The tea workers work hard and have history of course with the land, this is where the wealth is made, and not all of it for the end use of teacups in Europe. As much goes to Central Asia, where there are strong tea drinking cultures as anywhere else. I love the peaceful views of tea estates and also the upcountry rice terraces too. Nice climate upcountry too for those exhausted by the heat of the coast. All within fairly easy reach for independent travellers. You can pack a lot into a week or ten days in SL, that’s for sure. The tea workers are paid very little and often have very poor living conditions. They do not own the land they work on. Try and find out more from people with food language skills. Sri Lanka is very different to India and has not in modern times been a part of it. So the names and greetings are different. Does not take long to learn, if you use Indian expressions most people won’t know what you are saying!
12:44 Srilanka is my home, Srilanka is my heart. Mr.Davud you are such a wonderful person among all other youtuber's. They speak South Indian Tamil. Their ancestry goes back to south India and were bought in as Tea plantation laborers by the British colonists and were granted SL citizenship in the 80's
The British confiscated land in Central Sri Lanka from the Sinhalese and made their cultivated and undeveloped land into tea plantations. They needed laborers to develop and work in these plantations at a very low wage or as slaves but the former Sinhalese land owners who lost their land to the British abandoned their homes and moved away to live on their own facing many hardships. The British had no choice but to import laborers from South India that spoke Tamil who were poor, homeless and belonged to low castes to fill the need. They were derogatorily called “coolies” by the British as well as locals mainly by the Tamils who believe in the caste system until recently when they were granted Sri Lankan citizenship. So when you greet them you have to say “Vanakkam” in Tamil instead of “ayubowan”.
Recall your very 1st video in Sri lanka last year from a small roti/tea cafe also in Ella. Since then you've come a very long way thanks to your humility and friendliness and not forgetting your philanthropy and generosity. Keep up the good work Davud and may you go from strength to strength.

Different circumstances, different prices, but 5 mangos for like 55 (euro)cent is mind blowing.
