Hard question! Not sure why it's important, but I think that kind people are happier, like you said. I did see a TED talk (will watch your vid in a sec, just saw it's up) about what makes certain people happy and the 2 criteria were - growth and contribution beyond oneself. Those are the key factors.
+Shavinism That's so true! The happiness consultant we had at work mentioned growth, getting into the flow of something, as well.as helping others. It makes sense to me.
