I definitely don't recommend buying endmills from those sites. just buy cheap bits from ebay starting out. for wood, mdf, and plastics I used some cheap bits from ebay that cost me 10 dollars for 10. Only time I get nice bits are for metals like aluminum where I'll spend a proper amount. I was an early adopter so I've had it for a while and can definitely recommend starting with those cheaper ones!
I bought a shapoeko 3 XXL about 10 months ago. I wish I had a time machine( 10 months of added expense, crashes and ridiculous time spent trying to get it squared and trammed using shims, and other methods to try to fix a out of square badley designed machine). I ordered a onefinity and the XXL is basically going in the trash Jenn from suck it and now onefinity is the definition of a wonderful business person. I couldn't be happier with the way she does business!

Great video really appreciate the effort here. My XXL is coming tomorrow and it's just great to have guys out there that care like this. They now supply their own router I guess it's a Makita knock off. I sort of wanted the DeWalt for remote speed control and a few other features but they don't sell it anymore or the Makita so we'll see how this new router works out. I'm going to wire in some high-brightness LEDs near the router. Anyway, you rock bro. By the way I'm building an enclosure within about a week it's totally critical that I have the enclosure setup.
Hey Anthony! Thanks so much for the comment buddy. Yeah they just started selling their own router, but if you still want the dewalt, just buy the dewalt 611 and it will fit. You can buy just the machine without the router, so that's an option too. Glad this helped, and I'll be posting a bunch more tutorials on this soon bro
Yeah I made a point of asking matterhackers if they sold just the machine without the router like carbide but they didn't so I thought well I'll just go with their router and then move up to the 611 later if I have to. Hi...just set up the shapoeko 3XXL and downloaded vcarve pro. Carbide didn’t offer the 611 anymore so just got their router since I already own a 611 which I really love in my shop. Really enjoyed your presentation and info about several bits I wanna purchase aside from the ones I already received. I must say, carbide’s customer service has been impeccable and easy to talk with their tech, Brandan Lee who is very helpful and even more than willing to help. Wanna see more videos from you and will be subbing to your channel to keep on on what you can show us on the machine. My wife already know how to do cad/cam and convert files, now just gotta learn bits, speeds, depths, etc. thanks for all your help and keep the information coming. 👊🏼👊🏼

Yep they are right now. $1820 for the xxl and it includes the compact router (not dewalt and not makita). And it’s free shipping. But I don’t know if that’s just within the US. I’m considering the purchase but I know nothing of the off brand router.

I just got my standard size yesterday and going to finish assembling when I get home from work but now their website gives free shipping and since I live in Indiana and they're in Illinois it only took about technically 3 business days because I ordered it on friday night last week. Yeap. Looking forward to future vids.. The Shapeoko XXL is a wee beast and it’s noisy and it’s dusty. @WinstonMoy did a vid on leveling / traveling but found it to be quite indepth and a bit over my head. Also hard to get my head around the time needed to get this machine to produce quality work. I mean I need an enclosure, I need the vac to be ‘outside’ sucking dust from the router insid (thus vac noise is outside). Also need some quality end mills like you said. The 201 is a ‘safe starter’ end mill but the results are dull.. Then I decided to add a SuperPID - but that project has stalled. Now I just find myself working on the 3D printers. A lot less hassle.. Excuse the rant :)

Shapeoko actually just started selling their own router about a month after I bought this. Haven't tried theirs, but I'm sure its pretty close to the dewalt router. Thanks for the comment

That's the exact same software I am looking at (v-carv) but the aspire software is unbelievable but runs about 2k. Yeah I am definitely going to build an enclosure just because of the MDF dust alone. I will add it all to the play list

Yeah it is a bit steep. I also need to design something that I can remove panels if I need to instead of a large box. I'll make sure I add something for you all to see soon
One good thing about the Vcarve software is that you can upgrade to higher versions by just paying the price difference. You can work your way up through the versions step by step all the way to Aspire.
Great video! I have a question maybe you can help with. I am just getting started with my machine and I noticed that the unit will go “out of bounds” when doing a test run. it will try to go beyond the physical limits and cause the motor to spin when the machine has no room left. If I go back and re-initialize the machine and press the limit switches while this is happening the machine will stop in its tracks but it doesn’t seem to care when it is actually doing a cut.
Sounds like you may be setting your start point in the middle of top of the project. When you open carbide an set up the stock, make sure you have the start position (bottom left) selected. If not, it will do just what you have explained
Tool Review Zone Makes sense, I just thought the limit switches would act as a physical hard limit during a cut and not try to continue moving on the x and uaxis after the limit switch was pressed. Thanks for the video and reply
I done gonna git me some Dee-Walt bids wiff da cooler. Peeps. If you think this is going to be IKEA furniture put together, Nope. A couple tips. Use a good square, tape measure, file and level. Start on a level base. Use the file to eliminate burs. It really takes less than 3 hours if you have decent mechanical skills. Biggest thing is make sure spindle / router is perpendicular and square so it can level cut. Carving and cutting wood it may not matter, but metal work it will. Good luck and enjoy.
The only thing I don't like about the shaepoko is you can only load small files under 20000 in carbide 3d hoping some day they upgrade their machine to take bigger files
so if i buy the 1/8 collet, nut and tool will the dewalt 1/4 collet work with the new nut and tool or do i need to buy the 1/4 one too if i dont want to keep swapping tools?

I've never heard of that brand bro. The 3 most popular for the hobbyist seems to be Bob's cnc, shapeoko and xcarve. I went with the shapeoko because its built better than the others

Hi Triumf, you can use a program called V carve pro that you can add a picture too and it will basically make it a 3d file. Just transport it into carbide motion and your done
There is no doubt in my mind that your gender will not restrict your ability to set up and operate this machine. As an ex-Marine, carpenter and construction manager my skills are advanced and I find that CNC'ing is a different world. The Carbide Team and forum is fantastic they WILL help you out with any issues you run into just post on the Forum. I highly recommend the Suckit Dust boot from day one and look into grounding the router. Again the forum will help you with any and all roadblocks.
I just used a few saw horses and some 4x8 mdf. It's about 5 inches wider than the table on all side. When it warms up, I am actually going to build an new table with enclosure for it.

*in one line: don't buy shapeoko.* the thing has an elastic mdf blanket for a table, has no accessories, no emergency buttons, you will fight with dust everywhere, horrible backlash and software, no auto tool changer, no spindle control, the list is endless. buy a stepcraft.

you could try fusion 360 its free and great software it generates the final g-code

Its pretty easy Rebel. I would definitely start out on the carbide create software then work you way up. You'll get it in a week or two bro

Mine is not climate controlled. Its freezing in the winter, and hot as crap in the summer. Have not had any issues yet.

Sure does. There are built in settings for different types, but its something that you definitely want to get familiar with before diving right in
They run on belts. That’s all you need to know. Don’t buy them.

Shapeoko and brother xcarve are junk.uses rubber band belt drive.....millright mega v xl is far superior in all specs and much bigger and less cost.
Shapeoko doesn’t use rubber band drive anymore if I’m not mistaken
