Vertical velocity maybe also. X flight will probably be fine for another 15 years unless the rattle becomes too much which it already is. RMC isn’t known for their construction quality so Goliath’s a question mark but should be fine for a while. Little Dipper should be safe for the rest of time. The dark knight is pretty low maintenance outside of the effects so that should be good as well. Edit: I forgot superman but that could be gone if the maintenance becomes too much of a headache. And two of them (Deja Vu and Ragin Cajun) are already out of the park lol.
I think the thing with a lot of these 90's B&M's is that there's not really many better options on the market. Rollercoaster design hasn't really got all that much better since the 90s when these coasters opened, so there's not really many options that would easily be better than what they already have. Like what coaster is replacing any of the Batman clones that would easily be a better ride? The only B&M's that I confidently think are on borrowed time is the remaining standups.
I can agree with this. Though, Storm (Gerstlauer Invert) is looking to be pretty good too. They could do a layout that fits into the space of a Batman clone.
Hulk is very popular, iconic, and super fun! Definitely sticking around for the long run. If anything they should ADD another coaster to that marvel section! And as long as Lochness Monster keeps the interlocking loops, they can do whatever they want with it. Imagine a Vekoma multi launch around the river with those loops!
Loch Ness Monster is unique. The layout goes over a gas pipeline and Busch gardens was told that they can’t build any new structures over it but that any preexisting structures could be renovated as an exception. So if they tore Nessie down, it would be hard to make a whole new attraction, but they could retrack and add theming to it to modernize it a bit.
I was pretty upset when they removed Dueling Dragons being demolished prematurely compared to the other B&M coasters that also opened in the 90’s/early 2000’s that still operate today, but now I understand why. It wasn’t necessarily the recklessness of people carrying loose items on the ride that killed it. It was the humid climate of Florida and vectors of the forces that did. I’d hate to think that the other old B&M’s in Florida, such as Kraken, Montu, etc., might be suffering from this issue, but by some miracle, they’ve still managed to outlive Dueling Dragons. How they managed to continue operating under unforgiving conditions in 2024 is beyond me. It could be due to them having gotten a repaint in 2022, but I’m not too sure.
I suspect there was some kind of Manufacturing defects on both Hulk and Duel Dragons. Hulk had to have all its track replaced when it was only 15 years old. I suspect Dragons needed the same thing but they decided to scrap it due to cost.
One thing I'm nervous about for roller coasters in the future. It's the coasters from the coaster wars those are going to need tons of maintenance and will get removed I think it Will be impossible to keep them all open
@@The_over_GA_enthusiast.365 Intamin didn't copy anything, Intamin subcontracted Giovanola to design and build the ride, and 2 of Giovanola engineers were Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard before they created their own consulting firm.
B&Ms have 2 things going for them - capacity and popularity. With their long, 4-cross trains, B&M coasters can have more riders at once than other coasters, and they are usually among the most popular coasters in their parks. Meaning that not only do B&Ms draw crowds, but they can draw the crowds back by having shorter lines than other coasters that are just as popular, which encourages people to not only revisit the ride but the park it inhabits. It is much easier to decide to go back to a park if you know there are rides you love that you won't have to wait forever for. If a park is thinking long-term, they may realize that replacing a large high-capacity B&M with another coaster may boost attendance slightly for 1-3 years during the new coaster hype phase, but remaking the B&M will keep attendance higher in 5-15 years in addition to having lower maintenance costs over time. I could see something like Kumba going either way, since while it is a hugely important coaster in terms of the history of the park and coasters in general, it isn't as popular as it used to be and the other B&Ms in the park have just as good capacity. Hulk, on the other hand, is as popular as ever and has such an important role at Islands of Adventure as the capacity coaster, so it would really hurt the park to ever remove it unless they either replace it with or have already added another high-capacity B&M.
I feel like they could just replace one or two pieces of track every year, I know even just one track piece is quite costly but I think it'd be worth it in the long run. Give it maybe 10 years after the ride opened to start the process, I think massive rides like Fury 325 would really benefit from this method cuz imagine having to rebuild a whole giga coaster all at once, yeah it'll be fine for a long time but I just can't imagine "the world's best roller coaster" someday being destroyed.
I don't think that's feasible with Hulk, since Universal has year-round operations, there is no off-season to do this in, so they'd have to close the ride for maybe weeks at a time to take out the old track, place the new track, re-test it, probably internally get it approved again...
There have been some roller coasters once considered the best in the world, like Texas Cyclone or Colossus, that were removed so fury could get there one day but probably not until it’s already been surpassed by a bunch of newer innovations.
Another thing to consider with the hulk and determing coaster life is the number of cycles its done. The hulk runs 365 basically. It never really goes down besides for its routine maintenance. Its the most cylcled coaster in B&Ms and quite possibly the world. Kumba also runs year around but its down more often for maintenance and refurbs on the trains than the hulk. Plus more people ride the hulk so its cylced more. That amount of cycling places alot of wear on the track and supports
I’d say a good 75% of coasters aren’t worth saving. Very iconic rides, such as hulk and Loch Ness monster are definitely worth saving. Rides I can see being completely refurbished are Kumba or maybe Millennium Force. Kumba also runs 2 trains on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays. They just run one train on the weekdays because they don’t have the staff to run 2. Montu is the same way.
Dueling Dragons was taken down because the tracks reached the end of its lifespan. Rather than just replacing tracks like the Incredible Hulk, Universal decided to completely demolish the coasters and replace with Hagrid‘s. Plus, the roller coasters were pretty much hollow shells of their former selves cuz of the ride’s story being re-themed to better fit with Harry Potter, and the coasters were no longer dueling due to safety reasons
Ok Kumba does if not always runs 2 trains unless it is not busy in the park. Not to mention they just got a new train to replace 1 of the 4 trains they currently have.
Batman was at least the 3rd b and m. Vortex not patriot at cga was the 2nd. Dueling dragons was also at the end of the service life like Hulk. It needed new trains and had support issues starting. They also had to add nets if they wanted to make it duel again.
The day Knoebels destroys the Phoenix, is the day the world ends (Or Knoebels closes) lol. They will replace every wooden plank themselves for as long as they are around.
Already happened. Nothing has been the same since Volcano from Kings Dominion was removed. It was a short simple ride... but it was the idea behind it that made it grand. Raptarra is okay, but it's no replacement for the idea behind Volcano. On the other hand, if they tried to make a new Volcano or Volcano idea look alike at the park everyone would just be comparing it to the old ride for better or worse. The situation we have now is probably the best outcome of a junky reality.
It's likely it'll get re-tracked instead of being closed for good. Nemesis at Alton Towers got a complete re-track for 2024, so the same can definitely happen with Raptor.
I wouldn't be surprised if most of the Great America coasters post Raging Bull go Defunct, especially Joker and Maxx Force

its all about the opportunity cost, plus parks are running out of space so eventually they will have to remove something.
