I love this work. You've got me back into MIDI. Thank you.
A note: The 6N137 is spec'd for 5V. The STM32F411 is 5V tolerant. If you connected pin 8 of the 6N137 to the 5V line on the black pill you would run the opto at spec, increase the noise margin. And you have 5V on a pad of the black pill ready to go.

Thanks. Unfortunately the 5v line wont work when you use a ST-Link to program/debug/test it.
I've ran it for years with the 3.3v and it works without issue everytime all the time.

I see. When you're programming it I assumed you don't really care that the opto is unpowered.

My BP Synth is now up and working! Neither of my MIDI keyboards wanted to play ball as regards passing the GUI MIDI commands across to the synth, so I disconnected the synth from the keyboard and connected it direct to my PC using a 5-pin MIDI to USB adapter and adjusted the GUI MIDI routing accordingly. This works fine. I think the reason my keyboards didn't work is that one (Alesis Q25) is just too basic, while the other (Arturia Keylab Essential) was primarily designed to work with soft synths. Or maybe I was just doing something wrong.

This is good news! Maybe try using both the MIDI to USB adapter AND the Q25 at the same time... make your Q25 the "Controller Device" and the USB/MIDI adapter as the "Output Device".
What kind of MIDI to USB adapter are you using? (Brand/Model)
      How's it sound??

@@Synthetech Yes, that's what I did and funtionally it now works the same as yours with the keyboard and GUI. The sound on mine is maybe a bit more gritty than yours from the video, but that is probably due to the 25 year-old PC speakers I am routing the output through. Or maybe when I have done the waveforms walk-through I will be able to tune it out. My Arturia Keylab Essentials 61 has a lot of assignable controls. It will be interesting to see whether I can replicate all of the GUI controls on that, although the ergonomics won't be great. The drop-down lists may be a challenge! The MIDI to USB adapter I am using is just one of the generic Chinese ones with silver wires you can pick up cheap on ebay. The biggest challenge is figuring out which of the 2 DIN connectors to plug in to the synth, but once I sorted that out it did seem to work quite well.

@@rogrevs I'm actually shocked you got that cheap chinese ebay MIDI USB adapter working. I tried one of them years ago and it had limited functionality... it did notes ok, but MIDI CC's were spotty and Sysex was impossible to use.
Try adjusting the Main Volume down a bit and see if that helps your gritty output..

@@Synthetech I bought that adapter 6 or 7 years ago and it has been flaky the 2 or 3 times I have needed to use it in the past. It did seem to work OK this afternoon though, but 10 minutes working through your arpegiator tutorial was hardly an exhaustive test. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it carries on working, at least until I can sort something else out. I have got an audio interface with MIDI ports that I can dig out and try if need be.

@@Synthetech Mmmmm - looks like I was being overly optimistic about my MIDI/USB adapter. Notes are OK as you predicted, but random individual GUI controls like the Release on the VCA, which was working yesterday, refuse to respond despite multiple re-plugging, restarting of the synth, restarting of the GUI, etc. Based on your comments and my experience today it looks like I am onto a looser with this adapter. I have some other options to try, but thought I would post this now to stop anybody following me down this blind alley!

Thanks! Definitely would like to get USB MIDI out from Windows and MacOS (and iPad) straight into MCU's functioning soon.

Any plans to make your interface Mac compatible?
I wouldn’t mind polishing the UI for you.
One thing that would be interesting is making the app run through a browser for maximum compatibility.

You might be able to download a Mac version of the Ctrlr app from ctrlr.org/nightly/?C=M;O=D
Then if you have a PC, open my GUI and click on "Export>Export Compressed Binary + resources" and it should create a ".bpanelz" file that you can save to a mac and open up in a Mac Ctrlr app. Then in the Mac you can click "Export>Export Instance" and it should create a standalone .exe file that will instantly open up the GUI on a Mac.
I really don't have time anymore to put into the project.. I work 60-70hrs a week.. not any time left for much else. Wish I did though.... gotta make hay when the sun shines!

You may want to read some of these posts
      www.reddit.com/r/ableton/comments/nq179h/midi_via_usb_and_midi_out_at_the_same_time_keylab/?rdt=45074
It appears the Keylabs do not pass USB to MIDI DIN jacks.. only actual controls and keys on the Keylab output on the MIDI DIN jack.
Not all MIDI Controllers work the same way, unfortunately.

Hi Yantis, same here... I´m working on it, if I have a solution I´ll keep you posted. Please return the favour if you find a solution. Good luck!

@limpe006 I never did find a solution. I kinda gave up after a bit, but I still look at it as I pass begrudgingly. I'll get back on it soon and let you know if I make progress!

Awesome! I'm sure you also have a midi table somewhere ? I'm thinking about using it without a PC with a midi keyboard instead....

There is a MIDI CC List in the zip folders

hi mate, your video is so good, but in my case i think i have a problem cause my keyboard doen't have an midi output he connect into the pc using only an usb cable, do u know how could i connect him to the synth ?

    • @Synthetech
      @Synthetech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

You will need a USB to MIDI adapter. The BP Synth does not support USB directly, sorry.
