    Hey, as a person from the disabled community, just wanted to clear something up that a lot of abled people don’t realize: many people in wheelchairs can still stand up or walk a bit if necessary. Not every single person using a wheelchair has no leg function at all. If that man jolted up out of the chair to stop himself from getting into further danger, that doesn’t mean he’s faking a disability.
    Note: I’m not trying to spread any hate on SSSniperwolf or anything like that, only trying to spread some awareness because it’s a common misconception

      @@tripssouthiseng1414 personally I do need a wheelchair, but I have yet to be able to get one. Im also planning to get a pair of crutches! It’s for my chronic pain conditions that were acquired mostly through a car crash after being rejected medical care (severe whiplash, couldn’t move my neck) in an ER when I was 17 (Im 19 now). It’s hindered my ability to walk greatly. I also have chronic migraines, which makes functioning difficult ^^

    Not all wheelchair users are paralysed. People filming and 'exposing' these people are the worst. The majority of wheelchair users CAN WALK but need assistance travelling far, may be having a bad day physically or are struggling. Don't gatekeep wheelchair users, they don't deserve it, they have the right to access mobility aids without stuff like this accusing them of being liars or fakers.

    • @taylortonkin3213

      I was about to comment the same thing . More people need to understand this before “exposing.” people in wheelchairs especially if they just stand up like this guy did . You don’t know why that person is in a wheelchair , some people just struggle walking long distances for whatever reason and even though they can stand or even walk by the myself doesn’t mean that they don’t need a wheelchair .

    • @Queen1midas
      @Queen1midas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Yes. Thank you. A lot of people don't realize that wheelchairs are needed by people with breathing disorders, blood disorders, nerve damage, circulatory problems and many other mobility problems. Most wheelchair users aren't paralyzed or have amputated legs and many can easily jump out of their chairs especially if they're in a life threatening situation like rolling into traffic. This doesn't mean they're faking a disability.

    Remember, people don’t always have to be physically disabled to be in a wheelchair. They could have conditions that make them need the wheelchair occasionally. Plus it’s not uncommon to see homeless people in wheelchairs either because they need somewhere to sit too. If that guy is homeless anyways

    • @xxTamisxx
      @xxTamisxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      They do have to be physically disabled to have a wheelchair. The correct term would be "paralyzed". Many wheelchair users do have function of their legs but it is safer or easier fo use a wheelchair rather than walking but it's always a physical disability as a wheelchair is a mobility aid.

    I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user and was really disappointed to hear someone with a large platform is continuing to spread the myth that you must be paralyzed from the waist down to use a wheelchair. In reality, the majority of wheelchair users are ambulatory, with many statistics pointing to somewhere around 60%. (Source: Demographics of Wheeled Mobility Aid Users, by Mitchell P. LaPlante, Ph.D., Associate Adjunct Professor
    of the Dept. of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Disability Statistics Center at the University of California) Every time I stand up from my wheelchair in public, I have to brace myself for someone to get accusatory of me faking. I’ve had thousands of people on online forums dedicate their free time to tracking my every move on social media, accusing me of faking and scamming because I’m able to stand up. I am urging you to take this video down and at the very least, repost it with that section edited out. It’s hard to describe to non-disabled people how much things like this genuinely effect us in horrible ways, but it really does and I’m hoping to see the proper action taken.

    Something people should know about those who use wheelchairs- not everyone who uses them is paralyzed. Many people have to use them because they can't walk any type of distance from Neuro issues,pain conditions or even heart or lung ones. I have Dysautonomia and EDS and I use one half the time when my conditions flare up. Am I able to stand? Yes, but when my blood pressure is too low, to where I can black out when walking even a few minutes or when my pain level is too high from my SI joint not staying in place, I have to use one. Sadly because there's so few people who realize and know that many people who have to use one are able to stand or walk a short distance, Ive seen others in my chronic pain and chronic illness groups get harassed and filmed by people. It's seriously stressful when you look healthy, but aren't at all, cause there's so much judgment and harassment that happens now a days.

      I was just going to say my mum has a wheelchair cause she has terminal cancer and she can’t walk very far at all, so say we’re taking her for a short walk for fresh air or whatever, we take the chair so that when it inevitably becomes too much to keep walking or finish the walk home, she can get in the chair and get pushed home. More people need to know not all wheelchair users are paralysed.

Now I’m not saying this man is one of those, but I just wanted to point out that it is actually possible for few people to ‘magically’ stand up and walk. Bye, have a great day/night :)

    The majority of wheelchair users can actually stand. Wheelchair users aren't always paralyzed.
    Some people have fainting conditions that make standing unsafe, other people have chronic weakness or pain in the legs and cannot stand for long periods of time.
    The wheelchair "callout" video is kind of ableist ngl.

      I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user and I’ve never been able to get up that fast. But I agree that the callout was a bit ableist but without context from all sides of the story you never know if he is truly disabled and it was adrenaline or a good day.

    4:54 im gonna give this man the benefit of the doubt. there are some chronic illnesses where joints dislocate and it can be extremely painful to the point of having to be in a wheelchair. just because someone has a wheelchair doesn't mean that they are paralyzed or something.

  • @authorgirl4350
    @authorgirl4350 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    There are other disabilities which might cause a person to use a wheelchair besides total paralysis. Many wheelchair users can walk some distance, but use a chair for endurance or pain control. Please don't assume a person who gets up temporarily from a wheelchair is faking or just being lazy.
