Cody being in the match will create a cool moment, but will make the company boring immediately after. Cody chasing the finish to his story is more interesting than him actually finishing the story and he knows it. Fans are going to turn on him and his title run will get stale fast. It’s better if he’s the champ on RAW and Roman the champ on Smackdown.

Rock comes back to get rid of Solo, Jey neutralises Jimmy, Punk appears and deals with Heyman, so it is Cody Vs Roman - fair fight, Cody wins clean. Finishes his story, Bloodline are toppled. Then move into a new program maybe over the summer with Imperium, with Gunther elevated to take the title at Survivor Series.

Nobody took anyone else's spot. The Rumble win only gave you a shot at a title at Wrestlemania. And they sure aren't hurting for titles to have available (still not as bad as AEW though). It's only that fans wanted Rhodes v. Reigns. It was never promised; just fans setting their own personal expectations and not having it happen. He lost his touch when unironicly became a mark for himself. Part of the reason The Rock's character was popular was because of his funny one liners as a babyface or a heel and the fact he didn't always win his matches. Ever since Dwayne came back in 2011 he always booked himself to win and he's so insecure about his good guy image that he'll refuse to be a heel and every time he shows up he keeps regurgitating the same 5 lines of doom everytime.

Brian has this dead-on. This is eerily similar to how WWE mishandled Daniel Bryan 10 years ago. Creative has completely booked themselves into a corner with this one, and it’s no one’s fault aside from Dwayne Johnson So…how do you book yourself out of a horrible corner? I’ll save the finer details for the writers and Creative, but here’s the basics of how I’d book it: Roman and Rock can have their match at WM Night 1. Bloodline goes to interfere, Cody comes out and takes out Solo and Company before they can help Roman, BUT the referee gets taken out before Rock can win the match. Roman still barely wins once the referee comes to. At WM Night 2, Cody gets his shot against Roman. Bloodline comes out to interfere, but Rock returns the favor and saves Cody. Cody finishes his story, Rock saves face, and there aren’t any riots in Philly after WM.
One single line was the huge mistake: 'But not at WrestleMania." Everything else would have been an easy swerve, now fans are - rightly - concerned they're being jacked around again.

Title or no, the Rock CANNOT win against Roman at WrestleMania. You've spent three years building Roman up as this unbeatable champion, and your entire roster has gone at him and been knocked back down. Then you have a retired 51-year-old come in, totally cold, and just beat him on a whim? It cheapens Roman and it BURIES everyone he's faced during this entire run since none of them could do it. And it gains you nothing.

So…how do you book yourself out of a horrible corner?
I’ll save the finer details for the writers and Creative, but here’s the basics of how I’d book it: Roman and Rock can have their match at WM Night 1. Bloodline goes to interfere, Cody comes out and takes out Solo and Company before they can help Roman, BUT the referee gets taken out before Rock can win the match. Roman still barely wins once the referee comes to.
At WM Night 2, Cody gets his shot against Roman. Bloodline comes out to interfere, but Rock returns the favor and saves Cody. Cody finishes his story, Rock saves face, and there aren’t any riots in Philly after WM.
One single line was the huge mistake: 'But not at WrestleMania." Everything else would have been an easy swerve, now fans are - rightly - concerned they're being jacked around again.

The only thing that matters is Roman losing that belt and FINALLY moving on from this talent-less charisma-less main event scene. None of Cody, Roman, or Punk are actual main event talent. Told to us and forced on us, not real stars.
