    Hey Frank,
    thank you very much for your video. Ive got the W1070 since 2013 and ive had blurring and flickering so badly. So I decided to give it a try and clean the whole projector.
    It was definetly a mess but after all steps especially the sensor and colorwheel cleaning, it works like day one. Iam so happy and thank you so much for this helpful video.
    Best regards

    W1070 still intermittently shut down with red Lamp and Temp led after hours, that is after I replaced the stock 3800 hr lamp (original owner) and color wheel with new ones from purelandsupply. The new color wheel can turn additional 1/8 turn freely when I manually turn it, while the old one stops turning immediately. The color wheel sensor looks as clean as new, no brown smudged like in your video, but I cleaned it anyway, along with all 4 fans. The only improvement after new parts seem it shuts down less frequently, like sometimes it can last 4 hrs without problem, but still shuts down every other day after 2 hrs, while the old lamp and color wheel shutdown after an hour everyday. Both case can turn back on for at least an additional hour after shutdown. I did zero the lamp hour.
    I suspect the new color wheel is still not good enough, especially there is a tiny scratch on the color pattern, and it does not turn more freely maybe an additional full 180 degree when I manually turn, Or maybe the new color wheel has been unused for so long so it needs time to break in, so the friction from its bearing overheated the projector from time to time? However the new parts does improves a lot on the image depth and has more vibrant color.

      Lamp and temp LED mean a fan is a problem or dust is built up. The color wheel is okay. I can't say which fan, but if you check the service menu, it will say which fan is erroring. also make sure you didnt turn the exhaust fan the wrong way. It should blow out. It is easy to reverse it without knowing. Your issue is thermal related. Lamp led means, lamp had to turn off or cant turn on. When you see it with the temp LED , that almost always means a fan.

    Hey Frank, I'm looking for some input. I've got a BenQ W710ST that the lamp wont ignite. It turns on and after about 10 seconds a fan kicks on, the lamp light goes solid red, and the power button flashes orange. No light comes from the lense. So far I've thrown a couple parts at it, I replaced the power supply & the ballast. I've also tried cleaning the sensor on the color wheel. Still not fixed. Any ideas what I should try checking? Thanks.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What led you to the power supply and ballast? Was the PFC voltage low/non existent? What about the ballast control lines? What did you measure there that led you to the ballast? I'm also guessing you confirmed the color wheel index pulse is correct?
      My usual process is confirm/verify the voltages and then track down which component is causing the wrong voltages.
      What about a new lamp? Did you try a known good lamp? In my experience lamps are 90% of the issues then color wheels(for dlp).
      I'd make sure you have a good lamp and start over and make sure that thenl color wheel is spinning properly. Then work your way out. Good lamp and checking voltages is your best bet.

      @@FixitFrank The power supply had a brown area on the bottom that looked burned so I replaced it. I knew the entire lamp assembly was new, so I just thought logically that it must be the ballast that was bad. I didn't measure anything, mostly cause I'm not sure what to measure. I have a good multimeter though if I need to check any voltages. Can I check a pulse with multimeter at all or do I need to get a scope?

    Hey Frank,
    thank you very much for your Video. I have a BenQ W1400 that shuts down after a short time (~60sec). The Picture is fine though, so its probely not the colour wheel. Anyways, I fully cleaned everything following you example (ALL Fans, Color Wheel and Sensor, everything else) but the problem remains. I noticed that each time I turn it on, the Projector shuts itself of a little faster. So first it says on like 60seconds, then 40, the 20 seconds. There is no error code, the thing just suddenly switches off. The Lamp is old (still the first one I think) but only has maybe ~2500h.
    I thought it could be a problem with the power supply. The Caps seem fine on the outside but I have no tool to test them.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much! That sounds like a lamp issue to me. 2500 hours is more than enough. I would try a new lamp first because without knowing 100% your lamp is good, that may be the root cause. It is also the easiest part to get. If the lamp LED flashes when the projector shuts down, that would be my initial suspicion. Especially if you are running in eco mode. Eco mode runs the lamp at lower power and can cause deposits to build up on the arc points. Unless the lamp is put back into standard mode occasionally for a few hours, those deposits can cause the entire module to fail early. That is what it sort of sounds like. If a new lamp does not solve the issue, then more troubleshooting would be needed, but I really suspect your lamp at this point.

      You could try adjusting the settings but I would suspect the wheel is on the way out or if the lamp assembly was replaced recently, I would make sure it has the right IR filter on the front. Make sure that glass has a red tint to it. If not, send it back and get one elsewhere. If the lamp is still the old one, then I would replace the wheel. They are cheap and you will be glad you did.

    hello my friend, congratulations on your work!! can you help me ?
    I have a Benq W1070+ which is giving me problems... I bought it used with an Osram lamp with 230 hours of use. It worked for 70 hours and started to make a high-pitched noise, like a hiss or a resonance then a moire on the brightest areas. After disassembly, I identified the noise coming from the color wheel. I then went back up, then did some tests by changing the display frequency, which influenced the noise of the color wheel. I then adjusted the color wheel sync in the hidden menu, which fixed the moire issue but not the noise. Then I wanted to adjust the gamma and everything went out suddenly with a steady green power light and a steady red lamp light. Impossible to restart since, it turns off after a few seconds without the lamp coming on. the wheel a little then stops but no noise. would you have an opinion? thanks in advance. Sorry for Google trad...

      Hello! No problem! It sounds like the wheel itself is bad. If the wheel cannot run properly the projector will shut down and flash the lamp LED. They use a small oil-bronze bushing which wears out. I would purchase a replacement wheel. Any ebay/aliexpress wheel is fine. If you like, you can contact the people I use. They are in China. But there is something strange, the projector turns on directly when I plug it in instead of being in standby with orange power indicator. When off, the power indicator remains green with the lamp indicator red. both do not flash and remain fixed... I hope there is not another problem besides the wheel... and I also hope that the timing adjustments I had made before it dies will not prevent the new one from working properly. I see the color wheel spinning but there is some flickering when the lamp timer warning is displayed immediately after the blue benq screen. I would certainly appreciate any thoughts. @@bjbarns where did you buy the lamp? Sounds like it has the cheap IR filter glass. See if tbe face of the lamp has a red/blue/purplish color tint to it. If not thats probably the issue. • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shino, If you replaced the lamp assembly recently, that might be a cause. The lens on the front can have the wrong coating and let too much IR light through and it will cause the wheel to go nuts. If that is case, you want to return the lamp and buy it elsewhere. Amazon sellers are notorious for this.
      Otherwise, if the lamp assembly is OEM or good quality, and the wheel is still the original, then replacing the wheel is your best option. There is no special number for it and the sensor can be left alone. Just order a W1070 color wheel from Ebay or contact Time Electronics (who I use). Gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ahh, Understood! That lamp will be fine. I was worried you replaced the entire housing with an amazon product. Just the lamp (since it is Osram) is perfect. You can try adjusting the color wheel index setting in the menu as well. Press menu, then press source and enter at the same time. USe the arrows to navigate to find the index setting and adjust that to see if it helps. write down the original number so you can go back to it if the adjustment does not help.

    Hi, I have a benQ w1400 that had colour wheel issues - flickering etc. i replaced the colour wheel and now the projector is acting like it cant detect a lamp. i turn it on, it makes the noise of the wheel (freely) spinning up multiple times then stops, then the lamp ref flashing light turns on. if you take the lamp out and run the projector with no lamp this is the behaviour you would expect, but it does it lamp in or out. i have made sure the button that closes the case is pressed down, i cant see any other sensor areas, i replaced the lamp completely, i put the original colour wheel back in (that was spinning up but glitchy picture) and its doing the same. i replaced the ballast!! still the same! i also replaced the optical detector on the wheel. prior to me installing the new wheel it was booting up and lighting, now it seems to think there is no lamp in the chamber! the lamp install seems overly simple. one screw holds it in, and a 2 pin plug. anyone have any ideas? this is driving me nuts!!

      Do me a favor and ask them to give you the led flashes when it shuts down. If there is a failure, it will flash the lamp LED or Temp LED. If its just a red power led, that is not indicating an error. That is normal operation. They may want to see if someone set a shutdown timer in the menu. You can set these to turn off after a period of time. A factory reset may clear that setting if they are not sure where it is. But only if none of the other LEDs are indicating an error. I go over it in the video. The power pins. I say not to misalign them during reinstall. It may 'look fine' but clearly something isn't. You didn't do something because it's not working. Go back over your work and reassemble it. Paying extra careful attention to the connector that plugs into the power supply. That's the only thing that could be the cause unless you accidentally damaged the main board somehow.

I opened the projector up, when I manually press the cover sensor, lamp glows for 3-4 seconds and shuts off..when I tried running without lamp, the color wheel is not spinning at all..can you help me pls. Is it a lamp issue ? Or some sensor

      If the color wheel is not spinning, I would resolve that first. Be sure the wires are connected and that the glass wheel can spin on its own. They do fail and are sort of cheap to replace. If the color wheel will not spin on its own the lamp will never stay lit.

      @@FixitFrank yes sir. Thanks to your videos I could disassemble the color wheel assembly. I guess the connectors (two dots near sensor) was slightly unseated. cleaned and fixed it again. The wheel started spinning. Attached the lamp and It lit up. Thanks indeed for your guidance. Meanwhile cleaned DMD chip too, resolved the occasional vertical lines too. Thank you.God bless!

      not sure why you would penalize me for that. I just repaired it. Seems unfair and not very cool of you.

      If you send an email to "support@" the name of the company listed in the lamp link, it will get to me. I'm not advertising at the moment due to life being busy, but I am doing work. I hate to be cryptic but when I had a public email, I could barely keep up with it. Thanks so much for signing up for the membership, that is really awesome. I appreciate it.
