House of Horrors Trial Day 3: Gruesome evidence presented in Joel Guy Jr. murder trial

- Knox County investigators walked into a house of horrors Nov. 28, 2016. Prosecutors say Joel M. Guy Jr. is the one who created it.
Guy, 32, is charged with plotting his parents' murders and then savagely following through -- surprising Joel Guy Sr. and Lisa Guy the Saturday after Thanksgiving in their Goldenview Lane home, attacking them with a knife and them cutting up their bodies for disposal.
A Knox County Criminal Court jury is hearing the case. Testimony was to start Sept. 28.
Guy had driven up from his Louisiana apartment for what his family thought would be one last gathering at the West Knox County home before the Guys packed up and moved to a Hawkins County home.
Relations appeared strained that holiday weekend. The parents were ready to cut off Guy's financial support. He wasn't happy about it, prosecutors allege.
The reclusive, bookish Guy had been a student off and on at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Now his support was coming to an end.
Evidence indicates he killed his father in an exercise room and then attacked his mother after she came home from a shopping trip.
By all accounts, his mother doted on him.
Guy Sr. suffered more than 40 stab wounds. Mrs. Guy had 31 stab wounds to her back and buttocks, according to the prosecution.

This recently came up in my feed. I had never heard this case, not once, on TV. I mean, I’d think this would’ve been nationally BUT maybe prosecution purposely made it low key in order for him to get a jury who also didn’t know anything for fair trial? I’m still trying to figure out his defense? Insanity? I still have this & day 4 to figure it out. I think the old defense lawyer would make a great crypt keeper!

When they played the recording of the phone call Joel placed from prison to his only friend, I wonder why Joel’s friend mentioned he was not surprised at his actions, why was he not surprised? Why was his friend not asked why he said so? Anyone would have been stunned or shocked to realise how little he knew of the monster whose friendship and dwelling he shared for many years 😱
In that phone call, Joel told his friend out of everything in that apartment he was the only "thing" that he would miss. His friend didn't seem to flinch at being reduced to one of the things in the apartment, essentially. Joel is an entitled, disgusting Frankenstein monster.

Yes, I do believe that. Some really weird things that people are capable of doing.
There is no way he did this just to get money. This was deep rooted hatred and evil within him. In my opinion, this had to do with his sexuality and the fact that he was living in secret. That was no “best friend”. He is obviously gay and that was his lover. He obviously did not have a sense of belonging to his family and this resentment was building up over the years.

Its very odd that he sits and looks at the autopsy pictures as if he is proud and wants to see them. Bc I have watched many trials and the defendant usually never looks at the photos like in an accidental death or another situation. So to me it is very odd that he looks at all of the photos while listening to what he did and wants to see this. And also with no emotion at all... He is a true monster and is proud of what he has done... So sickening!

Maybe it’s a case of he was having an out of body experience while torturing & murdering his parents. So he might be looking at the evidence for the first time in his right state of mind, I use that term loosely. He looks at all the evidence in the same way. It’s very disturbing
@@AussieLivvy I doubt it was any sort of out of body experience (or dissociation) because he calculated the entire thing. This also would’ve taken a lot of time, he killed his father violently, started to clean up, killed his mother violently, cut them into pieces, covered them with lye, cranked up the heater... far too calculating and far too much time for him to have just been dissociating.

Joel is totally detached from the fact that he did a diabolical act. What was forging his mind as he was disecting the bodies. What other discussions did his parents present to him referencing his ability to start being self-sufficient. His demeanor is as if he has written a movie manuscript and attending a premiere. He engages with his counsel as if he's a colleague. I would have liked to hear from his physchiatrist and therapist (guessing that during his adolescent and juvenile years he displayed notable and remarkable strange behavior). He turned to be a career student. The world is fortunate that he didn't receive his degree for cosmetic surgery. I pray the estate funds are not wasted on his court fees and jail residency. My heart aches for the heartbreak the family will suffer for years to come.
Can I just say.. I like this judge! I refuse to watch the end without watching the entire trial, but I hope the judge has some “not so nice words during sentencing”. 😂😂😂
Dismembering his parents was probably the most strenuous thing he has ever done in his life, and he couldn't even finish the job. Lazy, spoiled little leach. The parents were on the verge of a new chapter in their lives. Joel Jr. Is still breathing air. What a waste of lives and good air. I am heartbroken for the family. It would be torture to have to live with that rolling around in your head.

It was enlightening to hear Joel’s aunt say that she immediately knew who killed her brother and sister-in-law when she found out what happened to them. I’d love to hear more from her, to understand what she witnessed to convince her he was capable of something like this. I also wonder if his parents lived with this knowledge that he might someday kill them. What a horrible realization!
people don't generally get chopped up in their own homes by people who aren't family... no stranger is going to stick around long enough to do what he did to them unless they know nobody else is going to show up, only someone who lives there is going to know that.
Are you 'avin a laugh? Is he 'avin a laugh? People who kill their own family members, also don’t typically mutilate them in such a brutal fashion. Serial killers do that to strangers more often than some might realize.

I don't think his mom would have given it a second thought, based on her messages and conversations with others, he was her whole world.

The friend was the only person in his life who ever accepted him out of the goodness of his own heart and out of choice. Everybody else that he knew was related to him. Crazy that his mother worked a job specifically just to support him, separately from the house. And that his friend, who seemed very accomplished and self-supporting, knew that Joel's Mommy was paying the bills, even though the guy was freaking 32 years old and able-bodied.

I doubt they screamed during the attack. It was their son and were most likely in shock and surprise. They may have also been trying to reason with him while defending his attack. Again, it’s their son and reasoning with someone you love would be a first reaction.

I know it’s still early on day three, but I am not sure what it is the defense is trying to prove. It’s almost like he said “I’m not guilty” and that was it. These guys have nothing to go on? How in the hell was this allowed to go to trial without any kind of reasoning for such by the defendant?
A defendant isn’t required to have a defense. Anyone charged has the right to plead not guilty and therefore the right to a trial. It’s the State responsibility to prove he is the offender.

It was considered an illegal and unconstitutional search. The judge didn't allow it into evidence.
They don’t want to keep it secret but they messed up and didn’t do the search/search warrant properly so they aren’t allowed to use anything gained from that search. That’s why they had to fight to prove they would’ve gotten the surveillance video even without the receipts from his apartment because it can be considered fruit of the poisonous tree.

I would have assumed this was recorded in the 90's if the dates were not present, its a real shame that this still happens in the year 2020. I had to learn about the criminal justice system as my husband was wrongfully convicted. With that said, this defense is horrible, the jury gets it right 99% of the time, and last my heart hurts for this family. They are so strong and brave. Y'all are in my thoughts and prayers. 💙 Sarah
