Thanks for the info! I just drove past some handsome small oaks on top of the dry hills in Los Padres forest. While down in the valleys there were valley oaks and coast live oaks, I had to look these up, and I realized that these are blue oaks.
There are many blue oaks in the interior of Mendocino County,around Lake Mendocino ,in the Ukiah area.Many of these oaks are 24inch DBH ,and 30 to 40 feet tall,and can be 175 to 450 years old.
- we have more trees and brush and etc now than ever in history! This area used to burn all the time! And when the lightning didn't start it, the Indians would! there's a million times more blue oak than there was before European folk started putting out wildfires

can they grow in the eastern us?
I think they can, giant sequoias do well in the East
