  • This time I show a simple technique to use paper masks for an aircraft camouflage. It is very easy and I get pretty good results from my first attempt.

    Great method. The only “trick” to pulling it off is ALWAYS staying 90° to the area your spraying.

    Not bad, idk I have been using a pencil, drawing camo lines which are the easiest lines you don't have to be perfect, then painting in between the lines, just like we did as kids , works great 👍

      +AltCtrlFreak thanks.. it seemed an easier way and more controlled than rolling bits of blue tac, as I had seen others do.

    +Harry Houdini, your tutorials are the main reason I subscribe to your channel. I always learn something cool. The way you present techniques is understandable and a bit of humor always help. Btw, I've never built a half track before. :-D ;-)

    Excellent video,Harry ! I've seen variations on your method before BUT, you're using little tubes is brilliant ! it solves the one issue I've seen with the other ones I've seen. I did notice you didn't follow the usual method of painting the colors lightest color to darkest. I usually do but not always, myself. Was it personal preference or something else ? I'm going to use this method myself if I ever paint anything again !!!

      +Ennis Anderson I thought the brown was a darker colour to the green LOL.. might just look brighter in the video..

    Hey Harry enjoyed your video I would use rolls of tape but I'd do it with my finger ! Not the best way ! But u have shown me a new light ! Looks good always like a new approach to getting good results with painting ! Any other builds in the works ? Looking to view them if possible ! Good day to u all the best !

    Hi Harry, very interesting as this is the first time I have seen this method. The blue tac method is also interesting but looks very time consuming. I have to paint a 3 colour camo on an FT17 soon and would be interested in hearing which method would best suit this. Are you on the painting stage of your FT yet Harry? if yes what method are you going to use?

      +Richard B This method seems best suited to aircraft where you have big flat surfaces.. tomorrow I will put up an excerpt of my video on painting the camo for the Skoda where I use the blue tac method.. which I think is better suited to armour

    That's interesting. I would have thought that the paint would immediately get blown under all the masked areas due to the mask floating above the model. So is this more like a "soft-edge" effect while if using blu-tac (or similar sticky stuff) you get a "hard edge" for your camo?
    I have yet to start airbrushing myself (I just bought me an airbrush starter-kit and little spraybooth off Amazon) but also bought blu-tack at a model-shop. Then I noticed that people talked about it online in model-builder forums about blu-tac leaving residue on painted surfaces and suggested white-tac instead. Do you know if there's any truth to that and that blu-tac does indeed leave residue while white-tac does not?

      I have not used white Tac so cannot comment. Making tubes of low tac modelling masking tape leaves no marks.

    Very nice.... no fuss with blutac....i would like to ask sir, is there a way (without using photoshop etc) to printing out your scale camo in order to cut it? Thank you.

    • @HarryHoudiniModels
      @HarryHoudiniModels  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the grid method is a tried and true way to scale up any drawing. Mark up a grid on paper the size of your model, say 1 square per cm. Then grid the camo plan in the same number, albeit smaller squares. Just copy the lines from the small squares on your plan in to the larger squares on your drawing. It’s a fast and easy way to upscale.
