Amen to that. Not only did my HP fan clog with inhuman amounts of dust within a year or so, they embedded it behind every other fucking component in the laptop. Nightmare fuel. And so noisy

Yes. Also today with modern laptops we have more pains in the ass. The change of HDD or SSD or RAM !

    Oh man, thank you!
    The computer feels like new.
The dust was blocking the air from the fun, so all the heat would concentrate on the metal plate. Now it's much better (not flawless of course, but significantly better).

This laptop is surprisingly easy to take apart. My fan is different though (g6-2225nr) and I wasn't able to take the cover off because of two really tiny screws holding it to that metal plate. I was able to bend it up and scrape the layer of lint out and it's like brand new again. Probably not the best option but you do what you can.

Put a vacuum cleaner on the grill and suck the dirt and lint out backwards.
    - Very carefully and not high pressure either. Thats what I did.
I had to get a new keyboard, lint was in it.
I'll have to do this eventually.
    Thanks.

I was aware that my wifi card was toast (literally) before finding out how to get this thing torn apart, but the missing backlight turned out to be caused by some of the pins on the connector on the mainboard that had melted the plastic around it, taking the connector on the cable down with it.
Luckily I didn't pay anything for it, as my father brought it to me from the thrift store he volunteers at. It was also missing a PSU, so the thing goes in the bin (after salvaging the usable parts)...

I'll never buy an HP laptop again after buying the G62 (in 2011, I think) and the G6 (in 2013, I think). The G62 stopped working a month after I bought it, and the G6 still overheats despite writing a letter to HP outlining the problem, mailing it to them, and then receiving it in the same condition. I own an ASUS laptop now and I couldn't be more pleased. :)

I know this is years old, but just followed the instructions and my laptop has gone from running at 85-90 degrees to 38.
Very easy to follow, and instead of having one screw left, I was one missing!!
Be careful when removing keyboard to not pull on the keys themselves, look for the frame that holds all the keys on a sort of tray.
Restarted straight away. It only asked me if I wanted to restart for cmos , said yes, it started. It had to install a driver for something as well.
All in all, very simple to follow.
Just turn off the volume, the music is terrible
