What else could we do with parking spaces? Parking Day 2021 in Berlin

In September 2021, I visited four stations of the Park(ing) Day campaign in Berlin to take space back from cars and give it to people. What struck me most was how different each place was.

I think you could attract a bigger audience by putting something more concrete/compelling in title & thumbnail.
Example for this video I could imagine a title like
"what else could you use a parking lot for?"
And then some comparison in the thumbnail.

@@MoBurkhardt that's actually intentional: YT would only allow me to show one language. Users would have to pick *either* EN or DE. And people (especially monolingual Anglos) might not know how that works at all. So I'm trying this. We'll see if people like it. Romain did below ;-)

Sehr cooles Video! Es ist wirklich schön mal die Bürgerinitiativen in Aktion zu sehen. Ich hoffe sehr dass in nächster Zeit auch so viel wie möglich umgesetzt werden kann. Nur eine Frage bleibt mir noch. Wohin mit den Autos die sonst nicht mehr auf den Strassen parken können. Klar, am besten abschaffen, aber was ist mit den Leuten, die das nicht wollen?

Die Belegung der Parkhäuser in Berlin, zB in der Pankstrasse nahe Gesundbrunnen (kostenlos!) oder neben Karstadt am Hermannplatz (Ende Kotti), liegt meistens unter 50% in Berlin. Es gibt mehr als genug Parkplätze für Autos. Die Autofahrer wollen halt nicht 10 Minuten zum Auto laufen.

Da unsere Städte äußert (!) Autofreundlich gebaut sind, findet sich in der Regel ein (kostenloser) Parkplatz. Der ist zwar dann ggf ein paar Minuten zu Fuß entfernt; dafür entfällt meist die Suche.
Ultimativ sollten sie aber so weit es geht weg. Anwohnerparkausweiße z.B. nur für Menschen ausstellen, die nachweisen können, dass sie (täglich) den PKW benötigen. Und man benötigt das Privatauto eben nicht, wenn es wirklich brauchbare Alternativen gibt. In Städten ist dies Meist der Fall.
Wer dann meint, mit seinem SUV das Kind durch die Stadt bummeln zu müssen, muss sich halt auf längere Fußwege einstellen. Soll aber auch gesund sein ;)
Ich versteh übrigens nur nicht die ganzen Anwohner im Video, die zwar ein PKW besitzen, ihn aber quasi nicht nutzen. Nimmt öffentlichen Platz weg, nützt niemandem und kostet die Besitzer wahnsinnig viel Geld. Für die 1-4 mal im Monat ist Carsharing nicht nur tausendmal billiger sondern auch ressourcensparend. Dann tuen es anstelle von 100 Privat PKWs vielleicht auch nur 5 Auto. Außerdem funktionieren sie immer (benutze das Auto so selten - die Batterie ist garantiert alle. Wenn du es wirklich brauchst. Frag mich woher ich das weiß.). Und man ist viel flexibler - man kann sich auch jeder Zeit mal nen Transporter nehmen. Nützlich für die 1-2 Mal im Jahr, in denen man *tatsächlich* Dinge transportiert, für die man ein Auto *braucht*

So einfach kann man das nicht unbedingt ausdrücken. Alte Menschen oder Menschen mit Behinderungen, die nicht mehr physisch in der Lage sind ihre Einkaufstaschen nach Hause zu transportieren, sind teilweise auf Autos angewiesen. Aber ich gebe ihnen Recht damit, dass es als von anderen als Vorwand genutzt wird!
