Right, i really thought it was just me. still i would pick a bat over a hatch anytime, less reach more power, a hatched could get stuck in the head. but thats just me so idk
I know this has probably been said (maybe). While the hatchet might be more effective execution style, look how much longer the bat is in comparison. Macing style weapons are blunt and intended to smash. That's exactly what the bat did. You've got almost double the range and it's got a better weight distribution V.S the hatchet, which is super top heavy and extremely short. You've got a multiple moving targets coming at you, which would you rather have? Thats my opinion anyways.
Moment-of-inertia has a lot more to do on a power stroke than swing weight and balance can be counter productive. You "want" more weight on the end of your weapon when executing a power swing. Once you have that weight in motion inertia takes over. Don't believe me? Take another look at the baseball bat's distant war-faring cousin: the mace. Where is all the weight--all the heavy bits, metal and spikes--distributed in a classical mace? Now compare it to its less-than-lethal crime fighting counterpart: the baton. Its just a thin rod with a handle. All three are used to hit things with force. One is designed to kill. To counter the range argument: get a full sized axe. I've split my fair share of wood with them and can say that its less about a power swing and more about a smooth swing with a twist at the end. If you think that sounds crazy do a search for "leveraxe". They make an excellent case for why I've been "doing it wrong" my whole life when it comes to splitting firewood. The reason for the twist in traditional axe swings (or hatchet swings) is that axes should actually bounce off what they're hitting instead of digging in. Digging in is how they get stuck. I've never hit a zombie skull with them though, so my experience may prove counter intuitive. If you want a force multiplier and blunt instrument, turn the axe so its blunt end (not the flat of the blade, the other blunt end) is to the target. You just made a hammer style mace. No getting stuck then. If you want whatever you're hitting to go down/stay down, turn the blade to them.
Okay, so you have a horde of zombies coming at you. Would you rather have a heavy axe, an actual mace or something lighter like a bat, or perhaps the axe used in the video?
In order? 1. Axe. A typical axe will weigh between 3 to 5 lbs depending on if it is a smaller multi purpose or a full size feller's axe. Not as heavy as you might think. Now I want to stress I am NOT Superman. But I do heat my house with a wood stove. Movies and TV would have you believe you need to put all your strength into every swing. But that is the point of a bladed weapon: you don't. 2. Second: mace. A long handled mace would be required to hold the number 2 slot but a flanged mace or morning star both have their virtues in combat. You have to "step on the gas" more with each swing because this is a blunt instrument but you can still kill and maim with every swing. 3. A close third is the hatchet. A light weight close quarters bladed weapon. It has the virtues of the axe (bladed means you can conserve energy per swing and let the thin blade pierce bone and brain) but requires more energy per swing and one more important drawback: you lose reach. 4. Number 4 Isn't even on the table but should be: A trenching tool. The folding shovel was preferred for melee combat over a rifle and bayonet in WWI. Soldiers would drop their rifles and go for their shovels in hand to hand combat, putting more faith in the blade than in their bayonet. Soldiers on both sides sharpened the edges of entrenching tools for use as weapons in close-quarter combat. Why would they do that if they had a rifle? The rifle had more reach, with the bayonet it was a solid puncture weapon, the rifle butt could be swung like a club. And bullets could come out one end when they had time to reload. Why ever drop such a versatile weapon for a shovel that can only do one thing: chop. The answer is simple: that shovel "chopped" more effectively. Moment-of-inertia was easier to achieve with each swing and it didn't get in its own way in the CQC of trench warfare. You want to know what a zombie apocalypse would look like? WWII was a rifleman's war. WWI was a bloody, in your face, knock down drag out kill them any way you can affair. It led to weapons so terrifying that--for the first time in history--countries agreed NOT to ever use them again. Which leads us to our last: 5. The improvised "Lucile" bat. Its the least durable weapon of those discussed. It will require the most force per swing to land a lethal blow, and the barbed wire is a maiming "shock" addition. The wire would cut skin. The spikes of a morning star would piece skulls. The light weight of the bat means you have to increase the force used every time you swing which would wear you out faster. Because you're applying more force per swing, you have an increased rate of failure--higher chances your weapon would break. Now, you can alleviate the breaking weapon by using other material like aluminum, but that causes an increase in vibration--traveling up your arm and numbing you. Ask anyone who rides a motorcycle what vibration can do to your arms and hands and you'll know how detrimental it can be over long periods. Bats...CLUBS suck as weapons. Thats why humans stopped using them once they could make something better.
brandon s the axe in da vid ye its short and all but it's good it's fast not a lot of force cuz if u use a lot of force ur gonna loose energy and you'll be eaten but also tyreese had a horde of zombies coming at him and he only had a hammer and a hammer is short and he didn't die from that
The premise of this duel is kind of "duh". Lucille is a weapon for terror mostly, not for combat. It isn't meant to kill on the first hit, people should see how the victim is slowly dying in vain, that is the whole purpose of Negan using it ... of course an axe is an better weapon than a baseball bat.
It wasn't even fair because the axe only did more damage because he hit the side that already was gashed. Most of the damage was from that old gash popping up.
Ok sure but you have a champion ship skilled fighter who has trained with the axe for years and would know the perfect technique vs a regular guy. Also the bat is WAY more intimidating like, which would you be more scared of an regular axe or a baseball bat with barbed wire around it. Literally the most badass thing ever.
I don't understand why they don't take brain damage/ bludgeoning into account. just because it didn't pierce the skin or bone doesn't mean the brain isn't mush.

how about next time you make two ivon heads replicated so then its really fair. how is it fair if they hit it with one then hit it with the other on the same zombie head who knows who did the most damage its THE SAME HEAD!
I will say... Against zombies, poor bastard ain't gonna care what you hit him with. But if I was about to eat it, I'd have to say I'd be more intimidated by the bat, the ax will cut clean. Quick n relatively painless. The bat however... I'd be *shitting myself*.
I would like to point out some flaw of this video (even though it's since 2016) First, the bat was damaged before the melee contest. Sure you taped it, but the fact that those crack on the bat would still absorb part of the force put in the bat, thus reduce the damage potential of the bat. And the damage is caused because the bat was throw and hit something on its thinner handle, which wouldn't happen normally, so its not the bat fault Second, these 2 things deal 2 different type of hit. The hatchet do cuts which tend to dig further into flesh/bones, but the bat deal blunt forces which crush your bones and drive it into your internal parts like brains and organs, plush pushing you around with immense force to also rupture your internal parts. You can't just judge a hit by its marks, there are people who get hit by a car and look fine but they still die of internal bleeding or so Third, as for you said that if 2 people duel with these two weapon, the hatchet would win, but I would disagree. If you get to bring more than 1 a hatchet, that wouldn't be a duel because it's unfair from the get-go. And if you have 2 people, one with a barbed bat and one with a hatchet, sure the hatchet guy would have the advantage of damage, but the bat is twice as long as the hatchet, and get hit b the barbed part wouldn't be lethal but still likely gonna disable you with pain. And the hatchet guy might throw the hatchet, but it would still be risky because if he misses, he has nothing to fight but bare hand I mean sure, in a zombie survival situation, a hatchet would still be quite superior for its multiple purposes and sharp edge, but you can still do well with a barbed bat (not as well as Negan, but still quite well)
Topaz Beast Are you kidding me? Even some of the biggest gun enthusiasts will tell you it kicks like a bitch. I've personally shot a 629, and that wasn't a very fun experience. I couldn't imagine shooting a .500
daniel Pauwels it would be interesting, but it would also almost be pointless.... there's not a lot you can do with a very short ranged, concealed meele weapon during a zombi apocalypse
Fougère Garantie rick has had Lucille in hands not to mention ricks primary is a gun id like to c negan pucnh a bullet hold on u gonna make me count!!!
the bat has more range than the hatchet and would have different fighting style. in the hands of skilled users, the bat and hatchet would be evenly matched. but the hatchet does have more utility and it's easier to carry so it would be my preferred scouting/raiding loadout.
Either way, if you do have three axes like they said as an example, then I'm afraid to say the axe has the upper hand in every way, pure destructive power, light weight and range. The fight is over if they hit you with even one of those axes.
This is why axe-like weapons are the best zombie weapons. They're made for chopping with a lot of force, they can be used as tools for things like chopping down trees and carpentry, and they need minimal maintaining.
the talking walker keegster, no, bats are not weapons. It's made for a game....but it still swings with a lot Of pain. However, a hatchet isn't made for combat either, but for choppuning logs up.
I need the Zombie patrol my Neighbors are out of control they have wild parties wearing masks and half naked bodies running around making all kinds of weird noises, then late at night they hop the fence and break into my pool and leave a huge mess. cool video I smashed the like button so many times my mouse started bleeding.
But Lucile is a weapon for inflicting PAIN. It isn't meant to be a zombie killer. It's meant for bashing the brains of everyone's favorite character in.

If you want a force multiplier and blunt instrument, turn the axe so its blunt end (not the flat of the blade, the other blunt end) is to the target. You just made a hammer style mace. No getting stuck then. If you want whatever you're hitting to go down/stay down, turn the blade to them.
shit
Which leads us to our last:
Sinestro Corps what are u talking about . he kills zombies all the time with 1 hit and not to mention he didn't hit glen or Abraham his hardest
Ever hear of a little thing called "reach" before? lol. Lucille would win this fight 9 times out of 10.
Literally the most badass thing ever.
can we just say that this guy is a fucking bad ass and he seriously needs to on the show
I hear ya Jager :))
I don't understand why they don't take brain damage/ bludgeoning into account. just because it didn't pierce the skin or bone doesn't mean the brain isn't mush.
Brandon Dean why don't they take vodka into account too eh?
Lol
Brandon Dean j🎓🎓
To be fair they are suppose to be zombies
True, but its obvious what does more damage.
You must control this experiment by letting the same person do it for Rick hatch and negan Lucille
Hot diggity dog!
NEGAN. Sorry, Negan but your comic counterpart lost Lucille as well. In Issue I don't know. Issue 158 or 159
NEGAN. hey negan lucille got rekt in this video
dark assasin 22 'Rekt' is a more outdated meme than the milk in my fridge, buddy
GorillazFan 01 ohhh ok lol
omg negan ur my favourite KISS ME :D im just kidding
ZombieGoBoom you should test Morgans staff
when lucille breaks from a swing set but survives a gunshot from 2 yards away
Rick + hatchet = RATCHET
ZaMBie like ivans face
ZaMBie damn get roasted rick lol😂

Once there was a stupid little prick named Rick that thought he new shit, but didn't know shit and got everyone he cared about killed!
that's not Lucille, it doesn't have Glenn's blood on it
kaname kurosaki Lol
kaname kurosaki never say that again😳
Dapper Duck it's also missing Abrahams blood to
kaname kurosaki *too
Lesson of the day:never use a wooden bat unless its your last resort of a weapon to zombies or other
some requests:
more gun tests
macuahuitl
butterfly swords
escrima sticks
all weapons used by the ninja turtles (sai, nunchaku, bo staff)
and do something with a car (would be cool)
and use more clubs
Butterfly knife???
+AwesomeMax 217 its a flying knife with butter on it
yo been living under a rock
Boi
AwesomeMax 217 Has greater potential for intimidation. Considering zombies have no potential for fear...
Bat is good for bruises, but it's hard to kill someone in 1 hit with bat.
Hris Todorov
Someone would definitely die from that hit in the video
+Tehlonelynoob what about a metal bat
Hris Todorov its hard its strong its thick
THATS WHAT SHE SAAÀAAAIIIID
Hris Todorov "in one hit with bat" every hotline miami character disagrees
If there's a murder in your area. Then zgb are top suspects
80% of this was slow motion... Not that i'm complaining because it was still a great video
Paul Tafoya yea
Caved SpiderGaming k
So what
Ha ha Ha ha ha you think that's a comment that is no way near a comment you're dumb dumb bubblegum
Kelly moore You got me there

Geremicartoons they did that already
Geremicartoons subscribe to my channel gaming Vogel good not that good how many subscribers please subscribe peace out don't worry I knew that she was so I don't know how to get it right
damian Vogel no your ugly
Negan would never throw Lucille
Potato Person that’s exactly what i was thinking! Sorry for being late 2
You've got a multiple moving targets coming at you
But!
If you want whatever you're hitting to go down/stay down, turn the blade to them.
the slow mo on the spinning axe was sweet
lord salidin hello fellow Guardian
lord salidin it was to long
JJ Playz Games welcome to the iron Temple
Cool
lord salidin hold up i saw you at CheddarSombrero's stream right?
The axe is gonna win like if you agree
Climperz Mommy I agree
The Lucille is just a normal bat that makes you bleed a little bit more. The axe will cut your head off
K-9 Tempest Yt good luck getting the axe out when it gets stuck
Its called a hatchet
these chips are good there’s always 1
lol if u actually gave the bat a full swing its game over
well Lucille is designed more like a weapon for maiming rather than quick killing
True, it's more for entertainment than effectiveness.
definitely want to see more overkill weapons used on the over kill Ivan head please
Don't you guys think that if you had two ivan heads, one for the hatchet, and one for the bat, then the tests would be a bit more accurate?
legend says if your early, ZGB will reply, is the legend true?
ZombifiedBeretta no
ZombifiedBeretta no its not😀
ZombifiedBeretta no you did two comments
big fan :D
ZombieGoBoom Lucille has More reach than the axe right?
8:27 wow, it took that look a CHAMP
I'd like to see how the overkill head would fair against the cold steel war hammer.
BTRENT72 yeah that sounds cool
BTRENT72 or a swabbie
Hydraulic press an ivan head
mike okk ya
That blood spilling out in slow motion looks so satisfying
try to make a whip with a bike chain if you haven talready
they did a few years ago
SeagodWolf no, they got the chain from a chainsaw and made a whip out of it
ZN Gamer they have also used a heavy duty chain before
hey can you get a can cannon (google it if you don't know) and fire a moltave cocktale out of it at a zombie
EliteGaming Squad13 they should try the war hammer would win
you would need a glass can.:-( :-( :-(
+Brandon Blount ok
EliteGaming Squad13 I don't think the glass would remain intact after being shot out of a barrel...
um you do know what a molitov cocktail does?
it burns things
and what is flammable?
their entire backyard
Still the best zombie killing slowmo shots on the entire internet!!
Negan would never throw Lucille, stupid throwing test
Mount PvP it was stupid to throw Lucille, but it is good for melee
Gotta treat her like a lady ;)
Did you grab her like a lady 😏
how about next time you make two ivon heads replicated so then its really fair. how is it fair if they hit it with one then hit it with the other on the same zombie head who knows who did the most damage its THE SAME HEAD!
maybe if you were an avid watcher you would see that they fully tested both before. well... maybe not that exact axe.
still it would be more accurat if they did what i suggest
Zilva They did, in previous episodes.
Zilva is this what you worry about in your day? you needa reality check bro
I will say... Against zombies, poor bastard ain't gonna care what you hit him with. But if I was about to eat it, I'd have to say I'd be more intimidated by the bat, the ax will cut clean. Quick n relatively painless. The bat however... I'd be *shitting myself*.
rip ivan..he became small pieces like the tacos i eat every day..Big smoke!!!
If you are reading this than have an Awesome Day :D
Max Koehn thanks you too bro
Max Koehn Thank You Xdddddddd 😎
I would like to point out some flaw of this video (even though it's since 2016)
First, the bat was damaged before the melee contest. Sure you taped it, but the fact that those crack on the bat would still absorb part of the force put in the bat, thus reduce the damage potential of the bat. And the damage is caused because the bat was throw and hit something on its thinner handle, which wouldn't happen normally, so its not the bat fault
Second, these 2 things deal 2 different type of hit. The hatchet do cuts which tend to dig further into flesh/bones, but the bat deal blunt forces which crush your bones and drive it into your internal parts like brains and organs, plush pushing you around with immense force to also rupture your internal parts. You can't just judge a hit by its marks, there are people who get hit by a car and look fine but they still die of internal bleeding or so
Third, as for you said that if 2 people duel with these two weapon, the hatchet would win, but I would disagree. And the hatchet guy might throw the hatchet, but it would still be risky because if he misses, he has nothing to fight but bare hand
I mean sure, in a zombie survival situation, a hatchet would still be quite superior for its multiple purposes and sharp edge, but you can still do well with a barbed bat (not as well as Negan, but still quite well)
Suddenly i was watching surgeon simulator
Ricks primary is the Colt Python right?
Ralexo Vids yeah
Ralexo Vids yeah in the tv show
Ralexo Vids in the comics his iconic weapon is the axe, they changed it in the tv show though
the colt python is more fitting to Rick's police background anyways.
Ralexo Vids it's a mix between the Colt Python and the Hatchet.
This makes me want to get an hatchet for the zombie Apocalypse (and I'm a huge Negan fan)
They need to do a video with a 500 Magnum revolver
Wrist = Broken
BpPir Its really not that bad, theres even videos of people shooting it 1 handed
Topz beast they already did
Leo Perez They didn't shoot a zombie head
Topaz Beast
Are you kidding me? Even some of the biggest gun enthusiasts will tell you it kicks like a bitch. I've personally shot a 629, and that wasn't a very fun experience. I couldn't imagine shooting a .500
I just see a random cow walking in the background
mooo
Its the cow they would eat if zombie apocalypse happen :-)
Negan's gonna be fucking livid when he finds out you cracked his Lucille.
Rick's primary weapon is a colt python.
Pokemon Dbz not anymore
not any more, in episode 4 rick no have guns
Pokemon Dbz He got his Python back tonight.
You guys should test out the hidden blade from assassins creed
daniel Pauwels get this like to 1k pls
Yessss!!!!!
daniel Pauwels it would be interesting, but it would also almost be pointless.... there's not a lot you can do with a very short ranged, concealed meele weapon during a zombi apocalypse
Stefan Forrer q
Julie Grey ?
The slow mo for the hatchet throw was almost an a entire minute
I just made a real Lucille she is awesome
Why?
Gh0sty Things cuz its cool
Gh0sty Things why not
There's literally no use for it so why make it?
WOLFPACK PATRIOT me too

extremedude27 stfu salty ass boi
Glenn Rhee why did you leave twd 😭
Negan would destroy Rick. He's taller, have longer arms, a longer weapon that basically need no skill to do damages.
Yours Truly I didn't say he cannot win, but he's seriously overpowered by Negan
Fougère Garantie won't be that when Rick kills Negan with his own bat.
Fougère Garantie hatchet can block lucille by hitting it. i would go with hatchet
Excuse me?
Fougère Garantie rick has had Lucille in hands not to mention ricks primary is a gun id like to c negan pucnh a bullet hold on u gonna make me count!!!
You also gotta love that slow mo DING sound the axe makes when its destroying that ivan head
I get everything but I don't get why Glenn is doing "killing Glenn scene" ?
the bat has more range than the hatchet and would have different fighting style. in the hands of skilled users, the bat and hatchet would be evenly matched. but the hatchet does have more utility and it's easier to carry so it would be my preferred scouting/raiding loadout.
Either way, if you do have three axes like they said as an example, then I'm afraid to say the axe has the upper hand in every way, pure destructive power, light weight and range. The fight is over if they hit you with even one of those axes.
Awron Zizao if you're talking 3 axes... the bat user can also have a complement of throwing weapons so your point is moot.
Androth you play too many video games, There's a reason bladed weapons replaced clubs in combat
who told you that nonsense? maces and hammers were in use up until all archaic weapons were replaced by gunpowder.
Shovel
My boy over here gonna survive the zombie acacolypes just because of his throwing skills
Adam is a foken savage xDDD that strike was brutal
_Hahah thank you Manuel :))

Jakob Zandstra ok many but it's still awsome
You have not lived long enough
***** talking to me?
the gameing endermen he didn't say he didn't like it
And I dont like it.
This is why axe-like weapons are the best zombie weapons. They're made for chopping with a lot of force, they can be used as tools for things like chopping down trees and carpentry, and they need minimal maintaining.
I don’t get any of these comments because I’ve never seen The Walking Dead ;-;
Also put the KABAR Swabbie up against the Overkill Ivan head
no dur the axe won Lucille isn't meant to throw or to be a 1 hit kill it's meant to be a torture weapon
the talking walker keegster, no, bats are not weapons. It's made for a game....but it still swings with a lot Of pain. However, a hatchet isn't made for combat either, but for choppuning logs up.
i was waiting for the bat to bounce back and hit ya standing that close
OK this sounds stupid but how about trying to kill a zombie with another zombie
In Znation a couple years in there's less humans and those alive are not dieing so the zombies start eating each other
grab both of their heads and bash them
That happened
I need the Zombie patrol my Neighbors are out of control they have wild parties wearing masks and half naked bodies running around making all kinds of weird noises, then late at night they hop the fence and break into my pool and leave a huge mess. cool video I smashed the like button so many times my mouse started bleeding.
Abraham took it like a champ
Adam, it would be awesome if you stayed in zombie go boom, will you do that?
Haha. Definitely, they are really awesome and not just on the show ,)) Thank you for asking Ricardo ,)
ricardo aguiar Yeah me to
Adam Celadin NP
