With Phjonak hearing aids, the Compilot can change the hearing aid(s) program and also can adjust volume up or down. The little microphone that is available for use with the Compilot I really don't find effective when clipped on a shirt or dress under the jawline. It just doesn't seem to pick up the speaker's voice. Now if the speaker holds the microphone in front of their mouth ... then it works very well. Good video explanation of the two devices.

What an excellent review and comparison. I am fortunate that my employer had a Roger Pen and one Roger X receiver, and purchased my direct audio input shoes and another Roger X receiver for my Phonak Nathos Auto hearing aids. I shall now seriously consider trying out a ComPilot Air II, for music and multimedia. Thanks for the well presented information.

Thank you, your explanation was very helpful, I have a Compilot, and use it for Media, I struggle a lot in conversational situations, I will definetely look into a Roger pen.

Thank you very much for your video! My wife just got her 2nd CI and got a Roger pen with it (she was already using the ComPilot with her 1st CI). Maybe now that she's "bilateral", she can start listening to music more. Will definitely check out your blog as my wife had a similar evolution (hearing well until her 20s, lost her hearing even with hearing aids and is now hearing again with 2 CI).
    Cheers!

Is there any difference if I'm only able to hear out of one ear? I've had a Compilot, but it defected so I'm considering which one to get.
My complaint about the Compilot is the battery goes bad after a year or so, and it being a necklace, I don't like having a Bluetooth device next to my heart.

I think it would depend on your purpose and budget. The Roger system is great if you want an all-in-one accessory that focuses on speech. However, it is quite costly since you need the transmitter and receiver. It wkuld certainly solve your concern about having the neckloop and keeping the device away from your heart.. I still find the quality of music lacking in comparison to the ComPilot. If you want a cheap way to stream phone calls and multimedia, I would say the ComPilot is the way to go.

Honestly, I have both. You can use a Roger Pen with a Compilot with a receiver. I like the Compilot for headphones more but Roger Pen for Mic.

I cant connect my marvel audeo M70 312T to the roger easy pen any input

I dont have a lot of experience using the Roger with Marvel hearing aids. I believe you need to first install the receiver license on your M70 if it has the integrated receiver. Then you need to pair by pressing the connect button on the easy pen and hold it within 4 inches of your hearing aid. Hope that helps but if not, reach out to your audiologist. :)

The Roger system will pair with a Bluetooth phone for phone calls only, not for multimedia streaming unless you bypass the A2DP Bluetooth profile with a 3rd party app. However, you can connect the Roger Pen to a phone or any device with an auxiliary port (headphone jack) and still stream music or multimedia to both ears.

Is it better to use the Roger on a daily basis than the processor itself? Most of the time I'm not sure if my daughter is hearing me or not. Frustrated.

My opinion is that it would depend on the mixing ratio that the audiologist sets for her processors. If she has a 50/50 mixing ratio (meaning 50% input from the processor mics and 50% input from the Roger system) then I would encourage you to use the Roger System daily at least for a few hours. It will help her get a clear signal of your voice without blocking out all the important environmental sounds completely. It will increase her ability to hear you at greater distances and when there’s a lot of background noise too. However, if you feel she may not be hearing you as well as you think she should, it’s important to have a conversation with her audiologist and discuss your concerns.
