We finished our basement this year to prepare for a multi generational home. We can live downstairs while a family can live upstairs. With the rising costs of housing, our kids may need a roof over their heads. Our lot is a quarter of an acre and we have garden beds and fruit trees. Good video!

I think that's wonderful. I believe more families should live multi generational if possible. Live with a few families on a bunch of land, especially if unrestricted.

I think that’s wonderful, however, if things aren’t out in to place soon, you nor anyone else will have a place to call “home.”
Society takes everyone working together for things to work.
Things can get very chaotic soon.

I made a comment on another TH-cam channel a couple of years ago about multi-generational living and boy did I upset some people, I was shocked. I am a firm believer in it after 17 years of doing so. Are there issues, sure but the good outweighs the bad and the amount of money we save is amazing!

Im in WNC and people are living in tents and old moldy donated trailers (thank God for them). I grew up during Carter and Reagan. 18%+interst rstes, gas lines erc. My father did the homesteading / little house on the prairie thing then. Build log cabin from scratch (I peeled logs with flattened how) even wood shingles, cooked wood stove. No toilet the first year, heated bath water on woodstove. Had every animal imaginable and grew everything. Fast forward… the young people are trying to do it now. It’s all cyclical. It isn’t new. We need to learn to get a grip and balance in this world. We can’t seem to do that.

@@PanaMaJwaaRd That's a really great question actually and I cannot possibly do it justice in a youtube comment.
But consider everything you buy (or don't buy) in a day - bread, coffee, a house, a computer. Its price is determined by many things - production costs, distribution costs, taxes etc etc. Production costs are determined by commodity costs, labour costs, machinery costs etc. Commodity costs are governed by things like fertiliser costs, import/export quotas, subsidies and so on. These are all politically imposed costs (or restraints on costs).
And the so-called "freedom" of the market (a myth) is also entirely a political decision; how much regulation we choose to allow is entirely a political choice.
Don't forget that what we now call "economics" used to be called "political economy". They dropped the "political" for erm, political reasons.

Hello from Canada! Our economies are very closely tied to each other, so I obviously don't want to see your economy fail- and of course I also don't want your economy to fail because it would cause even more suffering. That said, I agree with you completely about how uncontrolled capitalism is the problem. When corporations (and the people that own them/hold large shares in them/work within them at the highest levels) are able to get away with everything, control politicians, and not pay their fair share of taxes to fund societal needs, these serious problems arise. Wishing you nothing but the best!

Corporate greed, military economies are political no matter what. I will say this: I am closer to your generation. I was raised economically poor, but "land rich" in a family mixed of recent European colonists who survived British starvation, First Nations who survived invasion and Quaker colonists who defied chatel slavery (were even kidnapped by George Washington's armies). Survival was about banding together with everyone close by without giving a hoot about their creed, their ethnicity, their immigration status, political affiliations etc.
We helped one another eat, one another heal, one another repair, one another's children grow safely, one another's debts and homes to the best of our abilities no matter the cost. Organization and congregation of all peoples is what is needed.
US is about to pass 880 Billion dollar military budget. We are all sacrificial no matter who we are. Remember this and help one another live, my friends. Our lives mean nothing in this economy nor those who control this US society in the end, except to one another.

US is a little slower, but running into the same demographic problems. It is mostly covered because of migrants wanting to work coming to the US. Cheap, because another country done the education investment and will probably do the old age one. But that supply is running low, there are very few countries left with an above 2.1 replacement rate birthrate. For total population what counts is China and India and they are either at or below 2.1 already. I think only Kenia is above replacement rate still. Worldwide number is somewhere between 2.5 and 2.1, so yes we are running low on young people. Also there is a dislike for baby girls, so they are aborted in favour of boys and then 20 years later the parents cry that there are no wives to be found for their precious boy ... So not only are there less children born, but the numbers are in some places skewerd towards boys over girls running op to ratios of 117 : 100, boy : girl (some parts of China). That has problematic consequences for the whole of society and the safety of women. Unlike with goods, when women are scarce they are not treated like they have value. And even less if the government gets in on it.

We live debt free including our home is paid for. Being content with what you currently have and not keeping up with the Jones' are keys to getting out of debt and staying out of debt. We drive older cars, pay cash for home projects, eat out very little, shop garage sales and thrift stores. We live below our means and have learned from prior financial mistakes not to repeat them.

UK is much the same state. After Brexit(I didn't vote for) it ruined lots of small business and affected many more including mine because of the import export fees being totally unviable. Most of my customers were outside the UK. Bigger business could set up shop across the borders to avoid, but small business could not compete. Government living in lalaland! They bump their gums about getting the economically inactive into jobs to get manufacturing in the UK going but businesses are closing because of the higher NI contributions. Crazy all round! 😭😭😭

My thoughts on your video and it's content is BRAVO! You stated all the major issues that have been in my head for many months now. I have been preparing for the financial collapse for well over a year now. I was layed off in July and am 56 yrs old. The job market is bad and ageism is real. All that said, I will be able to ride out the coming collapse because I have always lived a frugal life of needs with the occasional want. My desire to buy a piece of land and create a food forest in an inexpensive part of PA is my dream/plan. My research to do that is what lead me to your awesome channel! This downturn will likely allow me the same opportunity you had to buy a farmette and realize that dream. Thank you for all you do. Great tutorial!

I think if trade wars kick off these are going to surge. Wars could certainly escilate due to less and less resources being shared across the world. Could get intersting very quick.

I'm Australian and it's the same here. Its a problem all over the world. There's so much blaming either right or left side of politics
The real enemy are the corporations and oligarchs who are so obscenely wealthy and the massive flow of wealth to the top 1% at a faster rate than ever before
After covid which they benefited greatly from, the middle class virtually has disappeared
People lurch from one crisis to another and housing is at risk of being inaccessible for most People whether employed or not
And all sides of government are in the pocket of these elites so nothing will change unless there is a revolution or rising when people reach a tipping point and fight back

"It's the big companies fault". That's what I've been trying to get people to realize for years.
The companies importing goods are marking up the prices 1000%. Technically, they could adsorb the cost of tariffs, but they will use it as an excuse to raise prices.
It's not supply and demand, it's ability and willingness to pay. Advertising and promoting excuses raise people's willingness to pay.
Take credit cards for instance. They don't want you to pay more than the minimum payment. If you do, they will raise your credit limit. when things get bad enough that you start skipping payments, they know they are getting the maximum amount of money out of you.
With product prices, they find the point where people's ability to pay and willingness to pay meet. That's where they get the highest profit. Supply means nothing.
So, the average person will always struggle.

I’m a realist too! I think for you to put on a video like this is truly heart warming just because you’re the younger generation. Im of a prepared mind as in I live this daily. Self sufficiency skills is our future. The USA is in the toilet pretty much. In order to survive this we will need to learn skills, living without certain things is going to be hard on many people as in not being able to go through the drive thru or going out to dinner like you use to because inflation is up 50% or more..instead of vacations when my kids were younger we did staycations, we own a 4-wheeler, and go-cart from like 2001 that we keep up on all maintenance ..my kids made a path in the woods up behind our house up on the hill, they put a tent up there with some tiki lights and would camp out overnight, we have a fire pit again this is like 18 yrs old so we would do the fire pit at night going into the woods getting a stock so they could roast not marshmallows but hotdogs wrapped in bacon..lol..weirdos..lol..have no idea where they got that from either. We had outdoor games with prizes I bought so the winner got a little something something..we fished our nearest watering hole, took a small canoe on the pond that my family owned..we did lots of barbecues. This was our source of entertainment..kids now days have no idea what that is like I don’t think anyway. Oh and one of our favorite things to do was to go blackcap, blackberry, raspberry and wild mulberry picking on the sides of the roads..did this every single year even up until they were 19/20 yrs old ..I have three sons and they loved it. I just learned how to make taper candles, love them..hoping to invest in a bee hive but will have to be at my brothers because hubby is allergic to bees. Love making herbal medicines and growing anything edible/medicinal. I feel for us all but the ones that have skills will be okay in my opinion..bartering is going to be a thing again in my opinion.

My concerns and thoughts about the economy:
The poorest 40% of Americans are too poor to quality for paying federal taxes. Tariffs are a way to tax the poorest in America. Trump needs these tariffs to give the oligarchs a cut to their capital gains taxes.
I hate that the future American economy hangs on whether President Elect Trump is lying or telling the truth. If he is telling the truth, tariffs (and other countries imposing counter tariffs), austerity cuts, and kicking out the migrant workforce are all inflationary policies. If he does these things, I believe recession summer 2025 ish. I am particularly concerned about the specific things the oligarch Elon Musk wants to cut such as VA healthcare. However, if he is lying or is unable to accomplish these things, then status quo give or take for the economy.

"Clinging Desperately to a Metaphor" starts off with a quote, "Unless people benefit, economic growth is a subsidy for the rich." "Lying It All the Way" about when president Truman dared to ask that we refrain from meat twice a week (the audacity!) There ae so many though-provoking, short essays in this book. Highly recommend.

Except the economies of Russia and China both economies are in trouble, look at how Chinas housing crisis has led them into economic trouble and have you seen the price of butter in Russia? Lower cost of living in other countries doesnt always equal safe or happy. Ive been researching more frugal whole food cooking... 5 years ago I slowly found a way to love beans. For me its not panic buying but I do stock up. People should research the UK'S cost of living crisis or "heat or eat". Might be a good idea of where we are heading.
