I like how Kaneki's Kagune throughout the story shows his development. Where at the end he uses his Kagune like a quinique accepting his human side and ghoul side.
Just one thing, Kaneki didn't actually love his mother despite the abuse, you can see he subconsciously didn't love her from the beginning, he has the tell of rubbing his chin when he's lying, and he does it in the first few chapters when telling Hide he loves her
Thanks so much for dropping these. The Tokyo ghoul manga is seriously incredible and the later parts of the series such as the end of og and Re never get the respect they deserve because of the anime. Kaneki is one of the best protagonists in all of manga because his “transformations” don’t just change his power level, they show us completely new sides to him as a person that continue to build on each other. You end up with a very fleshed out and layered mc that you love following as he pushes the plot forward. He kinda carries the series which is the best thing a protagonist can possibly do.
maybe read/watch more anime with character development because that isn't really a unique characteristic of a series. also the fact that he "carries the series" really isn't a good thing if you think about it 💀
truly one of my favorite arcs in the manga. the characterization and depth given to tsukiyama, my favorite character of all time, as well as his family and past was so amazing. it really showed how much he loved both his blood family and his found family, and shows how much he grew to care for kaneki. the tragedy of kanae was also beautiful, and knowing that tsukiyama knew her and recognized her love was lovely to me
i noticed that black hair symbolizes the similarity between og kaneki and black reaper kaneki. kaneki was self sacrificial and would do anything for the people he loves (which he inherited from his mother since she died from overwork). although the torture sequence had him acknowledge this and give it up in favor of “selfishness” only the timidness disappeared. kaneki was still self sacrificial and only acknowledged this at the end of og. the black hair thereby symbolizes that he acknowledges that self sacrificial nature remains instead of “lying” to himself about working towards a better future/to be happy since that better future would be built off his pain. it goes full circle back to the torture sequence since he’s basically idealizing the manner of which his mother died.
Good video. It’s nice to see somebody treating Haise in the way Ishida intended him to be treated. It’s annoying how many people treat Haise like a completely separate entity/character, when that clearly isn’t the case. It’s frustrating, because it undermines the abuse and manipulation Kaneki had to suffer through to be forced to accept the Haise identity; it undermines the suffering he went through as Haise whilst he was slowly regaining his memories, and it also undermines his relationship with Arima, which is arguably his most important relationship in terms of shaping his development throughout RE. Tokyo Ghoul is a very complex and intricate story that unfortunately attracts a lot of the dumbest fans lmao.
@@ykucb I’m quite self-important, so I do like to waffle (lol), but there is a small minority of Tokyo Ghoul fans who treat Kaneki and Haise like two separate entities. There are even some fans who resent Kaneki for regaining his memories and returning to his real personality. Just because you haven’t seen it, it doesn’t mean I haven’t. If what I said in that comment was complete nonsense, it wouldn’t have received over 30 likes, because nobody would be able to relate to it, and everybody would think it was stupid.
@@ritaevora8521 So true.... And then some of them be like: TG is mid. Well, dude, let's be honest, you are just not really able to comprehend philosophical aspects of this manga. You perceive it just like another entertaining shounen, but TG is so much more then that...
Tokyo Ghoul became my favorite piece of fiction after reading it at a certain point in my life. Thanks for reminding me why it still is with these videos :)
it's been YEARS since i read tokyo ghoul, read it when it started and followed it every week until the end, it was (and still is) a special story for me, helped me find answers for myself and also helped me understand some feelings better, the end of the mangas wasn't the best in my opinion, but kaneki... he is one of the best written characters i've seen in my whole life, thanks for making these videos, i'll probably reread tokyo ghoul soon after so many years since it ended
The anime really did a shitty job. Kaneki has a plethora of personalities. The only ones we know in the anime are Ken and Haise. Black reaper Kaneki was to properly introduce Furuta to us. The series real big bad.
This was such a fun analysis to watch, and I'm excited for the Amon video as he's one of my favorite chars. I remember when Kaneki's mother was revealed to be abusive I rlly didnt like the decision at first, but giving it more thought it recontextualizes so many of Kankei's decisions as a person in an important way. Ishida was cooking man
Thanks love the summary/analysis of the birth of black reaper Kaneki. I almost forgot just how beautiful the artwork is seeing some of my favorite panels again. I would love to see a summary of the Cochela raid and Kaneki vs Arima round 2. Wow was going through your videos and saw you made a video about Kaneki and Arima's relationship not to long ago. Definitely going to watch it
Great video and character analysis. Everyone already said what I needed to say but yeah this version of Kaneki was the most interesting for me and it always pulls me in to see more videos on this subject
I know, am late as usual I have to thank you Hundred for making Tokyo Ghoul videos. Have been such a joy, some stuff I wanted to point out and loved what others talked about. the Black Goat's King he talked about Black Reaper Kaneki and White Haired Kaneki, how both give up their humanity for very human reasons. Also when Kaneki's arm was cut off and reaching out, so was Eto's when hers was cut off, I don't know who found that out, and pieced together those to panels. As always take your time to make videos, thank you again.
Have just discovered your channel and I want to say that your Tokyo Ghoul videos are amazing. I love TG manga with my whole heart, so I am extremely happy that people keep analysing it. I wish this story received more attention....

I don’t think stacking multiple personalities or changing them in scenarios is “developing a character”
