Just a minute correction, in spectrum it’s given that four council members used to be appointed by the company while the Governor General was appointed by parliament.
I'm not preparing for any Exam or have any professional degree on History but as per my knowledge. In 1773's Charter Act, British Government Introduced the post of Government general of Bengal and the power began to centralise to Bengal Presidency but the Governal General of Bengal itself will be elected by Court/Board of Directors of EIC they also appointed Council of 4 which will mentor/Help GGB. Warren Hastings was the first GGB In 1784, Pitt's Act, Double Government concept was created, Court of Directors of EIC in England will take care of Commercial matters and another board of control was established by British Parliament to control political affairs and they both will have influence over the Governal General of Bengal. In 1833 Governal General of Bengal post was Converted to Governal general of India which will no longer be elected by EIC but by British Government, William Bentick was the first Governal General of India and will no longer have to listen to Court of Directors of EIC but to board of Control.

Great.... very interesting.. thanks sir
Brother, also include court of directors in your explanation. They are not part of any act, but the EIC was under them
Ok
Open competition for civil servants was introduced by charter act of 1853 not 1833
That wasn't even open ....the exam was used to conduct in London from 1853 to 1922....1st written and open exam was conducted in India in 1923!!
