    I hope that wasn't PVA wood glue you used on the handle, it will fall apart after a bit of time under water. Also pouring molten lead into the speargun like that can split the wood. You can drill some holes in a separate piece of scrap wood to pour your lead into then transfer to speargun stock. Not trying to be nasty mate, good on you for having a go, you have good skills! Nice editing skills and video too!

    • @skyespearfishing
      @skyespearfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment the gule wasnt PVA and i also put 2 screws into the handle to hold it in place from above incase the glue fails.
      I tried pouring the lead into moulds on my last speargun I made and it didnt fit in the gun as flush as pourjng the lead into the gun. I totally get the point about the wood cracking tho 👍 think I was just luckly with it this time. Cheers 🌊

    Did you have a plan etc to follow ?

    • @skyespearfishing
      @skyespearfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the first speargun I made a plan. For this one I didn't really have a plan it kind of developed as I made it. Very happy with it but if I was to change one thing on it I would have used 16mm rubbers instead of 18mm.
      Cause 18mm is very much over kill.
      I am hoping to make afew spearguns for sale this summer as I really enjoy making them but can't justify making and keeping a 3rd gun 😂

      Of course they would, custom spearguns would be a great offering. Are you on Facebook? There's a couple of spearfishing groups with plenty folk that would love these (Scottish West Coast Spearfishing and UK Spearfishing Buddies).

I'm fairly new to Spearfishing and have a Salvmar Hero. I would be keen to have a custom gun when I'm a little more experienced. It'll be good to see them in the flesh when I visit Skye again next year.

    • @skyespearfishing
      @skyespearfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lead is needed in order to make the gun balanced in the water. Without the lead the gun would float so much yhat you wouldnt be able to use it. Thanks for the comment 👍

      Thanks for the info. Just wondering whats the comparison why some use carbon which is light while others wants to have a heavy speargun

    • @skyespearfishing
      @skyespearfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blueocean5278 good question I have not used a carbon speargun before so can only compare metal to wood. If you get a wooden gun correctly weighted they feel like theres no weight to them at all in the water. Which I much perfer to metal spearguns. Plus I enjoy using a speargun which I made. 👍

    From what I know the mvd roller head is not made for big preloads.

    • @skyespearfishing
      @skyespearfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The preload on the gun is not very big and the gun works really well. When I replace the bands I will be using 16mm as 18mm is overkill.
      👍💯

    • @aldogjipali2835
      @aldogjipali2835 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skyespearfishing i have never like 18 mm bands. But having a roller without preload, you are missing out a lot of power. I am sure that a standard double banded gun would shoot with more speed.

    • @skyespearfishing
      @skyespearfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aldogjipali2835 your right I prefer my double banded 16mm speargun tbh. Still trying to work out the best setup for my roller gun power vs accuracy etc.

    • @aldogjipali2835
      @aldogjipali2835 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@skyespearfishing one way to calculate it would be for the bands to be anchored right at the back very close to the handle or reel. Then add the distance from the anchor point to the roller and from the roller to the furthest notch. And divide that by the prefered elongation. I would use something from 3 to 3.3. Sigalsub and Mares rubbers are are suited for those kind of extensions. If you use the sigalsub ones make sure you use the blue ones as those are the progressive ones. With this kind of setup the rubbers would be about 2/3 of the length of the gun and just to reach the rollers from the anchor point they would already be extended by about 30%. The force to load the gun would be the same as loading one double band by the same ratio.

    • @skyespearfishing
      @skyespearfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aldogjipali2835 thank you for the advice I will definitely use that when I get new bands! I have brought progressive bands which I have recently put on my double banded gun I much prefer them. Still new much learning what works best 👍hopefully the fish will return to my water soon 🤞
