His q is actually considered an auto attack so it applies on hit effects and it gets the range increase from rapid fire.
Unfortunately that also means shen and Nila can block the damage from it.
But it’s not affected by blind tho

so found out that Smolder has a quest against asol where they gain extra stacks one one of them dies to each other. It was really cool to find out.
How many is it? I main Sol but list the quest when u attempted it. Is there a formula?

If i remember correctly it was something stupidly huge, like 1/3 of Total stacks or even half

Extra facts:
You want Archangel's first, because Cass is so mana hungry.
Gauntlet might work, because with E you'll proc it often.
Heartsteel will easily proc because you're ranged and fast. For the same reason Rylai's will be excellent for kiting, just like bruiser Ashe.
Spirit Visage synergizes with your E healing and shielding granted by Seraph's and Gargoyle. Extra points for building all three!

So finally, I have found a build faster than ZWAG. Played this the past 4 days and it's amazing! One game, I build Liandrys second instead of quickblades, against a heavy HP stacking team. The liandrys did as much damage the Reaver had in 2mins after being built with passive stacks to 125+

10:20 I usually aim for my 125 by 15 minutes as a good benchmark for if I'm stacking well. That usually lets you hit 225 before 25 minutes, so you're "online" before late-late game.

Do you think Smolder would work with a rageblade for the ad/ap pen hybrid damage he does?
What is you build him like a bruiser with this? Eclipse + shojin, cleaver might stack off E pretty well.
You lose crit scaling on Q unfortunately but if you're going that route a trinity force doesn't seem like a bad idea.

anything that increases auto range increases his q range. lethal tempo , Milio w. rapid fire. all makes it longer. quite Fun
Zwag, if you want to do an AP smolder build i suggest going:
Liandry's>Grudge>Horizon>Dcap>Flex Item>Boots/Cosmic Drive.
It has insanely good W and R damage, and Q wont be that relevant until 225. You become a nuking backliner.
Smolder’s Q does actually scale with crit. Similar to cait’s ult. I think it’s like 30% of crit as a percentage increase. (100% crit equals 30% damage amp)
its 6% per 20 crit, soooo techically you could build any of the other damage amp items, aside from horizon focus, and still get the good value (liandries perhaps??)

RFC does extend your Q range and currently you can Q + AA at the extended range of RFC
you should try an ability haste build on smolder to spam q
There is a SLIGHT variation on that rune page I would make personally. Instead of free boots I would go Approach Velocity. Smolder has 2 slows W and R and given your starting with W that +15% move speed to enemies lets you catch them a LOT faster than you otherwise would. Downside its harder to run away, but not by much just a slight bit. I don't think people have considered it yet because he is still new and W is only just starting to get focused on plus his W slow is only 35%.
Nope because you're never going to trade after you land your abilities. Approach velocity is wasted as 99% of the time you'll be kiting backwards after landing an ability not running into AA range due to smolders lack of AA damage.

@@BusJACKTVyep, w or ulti to slow them down when they run and give you approach velocity and q to end them. The biggest problem i have with smolder is kill greed and being able to chase more easily is more useful at keeping me out of dangerous situations than +20 speed.
@@BusJACKTV nope because if you get close enough to Q then you are in trading range and you just lose the trade. W and Ult are not engage tools, they are poke and disengage abilities. Actually his entire kit is designed around long range poke and not getting into trades. Q to first hit approaching targets or minions for stacks (early game Q does little to no damage), E to kite, W to poke at range after the disengage and R to finish off from a distance. Approach velocity will just get you killed early game and you'll completely fall off before ever becoming useful.

Just some theory crafting, but I think eventually Smolder optimal build is gonna be similar to how corki builds as people play him more and more.. A mix of ad/ap items. Just gotta find the right item combo's / runes I guess. All this depending no who is one smolders team, and who he's against.
I agree - I've been preaching that ER, Navori, Liandries could be his strongest core item set just cuz it gives him more power to his poke, and provides some damage amp to his other abilities. flex in either the RFC, maybe even Rift or Shojin to bulk him up, or whatever crit item float your boat and you'd have a champ that basically does what corki and ezreal do but better.

you should try smolder with the same rune page and dorans ring, but go for trinity and shojin instead of quick blades and essence reaver
I think Reaver and Navori is better because his E scales with crit. So it maxes out the scaling with that. Only reason I would say those 2 are better. Still would be fun to watch any build tbh.
20:50 you E can potentialy give up to 5 stacks but you would need to hit different champions with each pellet since it counts as a single spell cast so no if you hit an enemy champion it gives 1 stack
Another build you can go for is Triforce, Shojin, Liandys, tank item(Rookern, FrozenHeart, Jak'Sho), Riftmaker

If you poke/invade jungle before minion spawn you can usually get 3-4 stacks and have 25 before the 5 minute mark

When you ult turn and face away from the enemy then ult. You should hit them instantly.
full lethality pretty fine on him. hit-n-run with E, QWEQ combo (or WQEQ). and yeah, max W first, its a massacre at first minutes of the game

I was the kaisa in this game! i knew something was up haha. i asked if you were the same smolder cuz i had a game against an ap smolder that was crushing me in lane right before this. that game had a very different ending though haha. the gragas was flaming lilia literally the entire time during this game, tried my best to hold out, but a smolder with full stacks at 25min is just insane. thanks for the game zwag! now ill never have to wonder if i could hold my own against challengers again lmao

Thank you for helping Smolder look better. He's one of the very few new champions that are so balanced that people think he's weak... because people are so used to overloaded, overtuned, or ridiculous champions that have massive insane burst and fast target access mobility or CC.I love Smolder and enjoy his easy-to-understand gameplay as a Tristana player, I also play Kai'Sa or Zeri, and even Twitch if I want more complex bottom lane ADCs than Smolder.
Heck, I've always loved dragons since I was a kid, so Smolder was an exciting addition to the game. It just legit hurt my soul when I saw on Mobalytics that he went down to D tier so quickly just because people can't solo carry and don't understand that maybe he's meant to deal damage to multiple targets in teamfights and not get picks? Teamplay is important, so it sucks that people have gotten so used to the "me VS. my team or the enemy team" solo carrying and getting "big plays" nonsense. I mean, they aren't good at getting stacks of Dragon practice either, and heck I'm having trouble with it but I'll get better.
The toxicity around this adorable guy is just saddening to see, I had my own team ban Smolder when I picked him. It was for my own good, they said. Yeah, I'm not consistent just straight up I can do poorly even on Tristana who I've gotten great at. So if someone does poorly on their main, even if they are S or A tier, does that mean the champion is bad? Really sound logic you have there, League of Legends community! A good player can make even a D tier champion shine, like you. As I get better at the game, which I only recently got back to, I'm sure I'll be able to play Smolder as good as I play Tristana, and improve my awful consistency issues which make me not consistent on ANY champion.
To summarize: Smolder is an EASY champion, but he's also mechanically demanding at the same time. You gotta pay attention to Dragon Practice and positioning even harder than on someone like Ashe, Jinx, or Miss Fortune who can just press the "I win" button in comparison and yet the fun, interesting dragon champion is the "bad champion". All because his early burst damage potential is low.

First, let me thank you for wanting to improve. Boy, isn't that rare these days, League needs players like you.
My opinion on the new champ...
I don't like Smolder, but I'd rather have a thousand One For All Smolder games (you know, 5v5s on the Rift with 10 copies of the same champion) with conscious players on both sides than a single Ranked with a disco Nunu, on EITHER team, that turns the match from fun and competitive to hilarious and mediocre. It's the players, not champions, who make the game fun. Or AT LEAST they're equally important to it.
Why don't I like Smolder? It totally isn't the kit or playstyle, these are both appealing and needed for League's well-being. He's just a showmaker, an attention magnet, and I dislike these kinds of characters. That's all. Zero offense to you as well.
As for meta and champion tiers...
In my opinion, tiers make sense mostly for players who can play multiple champions effectively - basically not the one-tricks. Which is only some of them.
If you focus games over a single main, what you prioritize is getting the most out of just this one champ. To make use of meta, one has to be flexible, be able to quickly digest new kits (if they're easy then it helps, of course) or shuffle through older ones you once used to play.
Notice that what often enters/leaves meta is champions who are somewhat easy, conceptually or mechanically - think of Malphite (just R), Rammus (just Taunt), Amumu (just Q and R), Ezreal (just Q spam), Darius (stack passive and R), Rakan (engage/shield/heal, just normal support stuff). If Riot buffs Riven, it definitely won't suddenly attract more Riven newbies to the game. This kind of champion, you either main or not play.
As for the teamplay aspect...
Yes, it's really sad to see it gone. I'd also like to see some teamwork here and there, but in Ranked, you can only try to gather pieces of it only in high elo. And even here, teamwork is probably an illusion just because these players, more often than not, know what to do in a situation. Boom, Baron down - this champ goes pick up top wave, this one goes claim enemy topside, the rest recalls. Their actions are not coordinated, just coincidentally everyone does the right thing. Also pings aren't communication, but source of control - someone pings more than others and claims the title of the leader this way, by just crying the loudest. So gross.
These days, it's either competition and self-improvement in Ranked or teamplay in all remaining modes. You need to choose.

I always thought you should build him like Jhin. Massive damage, crit, and cooldown. And then play him like viegar, stack stack stack to burst.

I also think Smolder is better played as midlaner. He's got good waveclear, can push real hard real fast, and have a decent escape with his fly. First time I tried him in midlane I constantly split pushing in side lane and even though the score is quite even, the enemy lost all their turrets in no time. I pushed wave fast and while the lane is pushing, switch around to either push other lane or join a fight. My total damage score in the end is below average, but my damage to turret doubles everyone lol
Btw his Q damage scales with Crit
Shojin > Liandry > FireCannon > Gauntlet > Any MR Item / optional depending: Riftmaker (more dmg and sustain), LDR (% dmg vs beefy tanks). Crit items barely give you some ad + 10% dmg (by the crit + navori's), so Liandry literally gives you that 6% dmg and also the DoT, while makes you tankier :D. With this build you end up with 3000-3500 hp, while your Q melt them. Maybe your Q hits a bit less but... you can facetank any champ mostly while doing tons of damage :)

I keep seeing smolders building almost full tank once they hit 225 stacks. they build damage early to help them stack up and then they're unkillable late game and still do too much damage

What if u get collector so when fully stack, and enemy hp bar is low. U collect them and into before it hits bar to kill them. Maybe kill them half hp ? No? Lol

Btw, this build is a game changer - I played Smolder 1vs2 in early game, which at first glance seemed as a lost game anyways. But somehow with a help of my jungler I managed to win laning phase
