ABBA, were huge here in Australia in the mid 70’s, they’d won the Eurovision Song Contest a year or so earlier and we couldn’t get enough of them. This song was realeast🇦🇺😘 just as Bjorn and the blonde Aghneta had 2 children and were married and this song was released just when their marriage was ending. The other couple Benny and Freda ( the redhead) were also a couple. They are Swedish and have a huge catalogue of music mostly all written by the Boys and I’ve seen videos of Benny playing the piano and the piano would be bouncing up and down on the stage. They did credit we Aussies with how popular they became. It really is worth a dive down the hole of ABBA, there are so many great songs and 1 in particular that I like is Does your Mother Know that Your Out but as I said they have a huge Catalogue and I would tip that know you’ve played 1 you’ll get many more ABBA requests.🇦🇺😘
That's the first time hearing somebody saying not sure where ABBA comes from. ABBA is from Sweden. ABBA was a worldwide success and still is. Hall of fame, movies, museum, recently the ABBA Voyage in England and many other things. ABBA sold something around 400 million albums worldwide. This song for example I heard it many, many times on the radio when I was living in the U.S. I remember once at the Red Roof Hotel in Miami where I was hosted, the people in the lobby were singing this song while it was being played on the radio. It's a very well known song. I met once a Texican couple that used to play ABBA all the time. By the way, somehow ABBA is always being played everywhere I go. 🤩 Agnetha (Anietha or simply Anna) the blond one sings perfectly and along with Frida, the brunette, they blend their voices as magic. Am I wrong? Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ABBA's catalogue of hits worldwide is huge and ridiculously good! Only really the US that mostly missed out, which is probably why you aren't familiar with them. The vast majority of the planet has been immersed in their music for the past 50 years. Their collection album ABBA Gold has been in the UK top 100 for well over ONE THOUSAND weeks.
Hi Mike. ABBA is a Swedish band although Anni-Frid was born in Norway. ABBA was a huge hit in Australia early on, so much so that the rest of the world started to pay attention to them after they charted with Ring, Ring in 1973. ABBA had six number ones in Australia but only three in their home country of Sweden. They reached number one in Australia in 1975 with I do, I do, I do, Mama Mia and S.O.S and Fernando, Dancing Queen and Money, Money, Money in 1976. They had a whole lot of other songs on the charts over the years. (ABBA also won the Eurovision contest with Waterloo in 1974). The Winner Takes it All is my favourite ABBA song was about Agnetha and Bjorn's divorce so I always thought Agnetha was SO BRAVE to sing this.
Definitely SWEDISH. But had huge success in Australia probably a dozen top five songs. For a time they had 3 songs in the top five at once. Someone can google the stats and correct me if you like. (Saves me looking it up) 😁
After ABBA, there were several Swedish artists/bands who became big. One of these was ROXETTE who had several no 1's on the US Billboard Hot 100. "It Must Have Been Love", from the soundtrack to the 1990 Movie Pretty Woman is my favorite! Grettings from Sweden 🎼🎵🎶
ABBA is Swedish but they were a massive hit in Australia. So much so that the British took notice. After 40 years of not recording they released an album a couple of years ago. They also have a show in London using their Abatars. The pianist writes the music and the guitarist writes the lyrics. The girls sang sometimes taking the lead individually but a lot of time the two of them singing together.
Hi Mike. There are a lot of Abba song to discover, A wide range of melodies. I hope you can find the time to listen to them. They sure are my idols from day one . That expands over 50 years for me 😊
in 2021 the Swedish band ABBA create a new album, 40 years after their last album and all songs of the album VOYAGE are worth to listen......same members, same voices.......unique.....listen first to I STILL HAVE FAITH IN YOU ...comeback single with the visit to Austrlia as part of the video
I listened to this song for decades but never really knew what it was about until I watched the ABBA documentary and it was a really sad song. I found with my partners that you couldn't win when it came to that kind of thing . Anything you say can and will be used in evidence against you Lol.ABBA are Swedish.
ABBA is a Swedish band from Sweden. (Australia claimed them as their own because they were down to earth like the Australians) The name ABBA is an acronym formed from the first letters of each group member's first name: Agnetha - (the blonde) better known as Anna Björn - (the guitarist) husband to Agnetha Benny - (piano player) Husband to the brunette Anni-Frid - (the brunette) better known as Frida
A lot of people wonder why ABBA were so popular in Australia. I think it's pretty simple: Aussies love people who don't take themselves too seriously. And if you look at some of their early videos, ABBA definitely look like they were taking the piss. I remember crying with delight and boredom as "Fernando" spent 14 weeks at No.1!
It's unbelievable, that you have never heard this song before. Where do you have hidden all the last 50 years? I am from Germany and I grew up with ABBA since they won The Gran Prix with their song "Waterloo".
ABBA Recommendation, Sir: "The Name Of The Game" - one of ABBA's American-inspired songs of 1977 & one of their most complex & sublime recordings Thank You, Sir🍀
1976 you say? 100% some of the songs you listened to were, "Dancing Queen," "Knowing me, knowing you," "Money, money, money" and hit songs from their previous Album "ABBA" such as "Mama mia" and "SOS"
One hour since you posted, in WA aka Western Australia at 9.21 am Tuesday 1st October 2024. The Eastern Australian States move their clock forward an hour on around 6th October 2024. But for now in Sydney and Melbourne it is 11.21 am.
PS My Mum bought the double record of ABBA’s album Arrival in the 70’s when I was a youngster. That was played a lot. My sister was bottle blonde (at the time) and I have brown hair so we use to pretend to be the girls. I would have been around 6 then, and my sister about 8 😂
ABBA isn’t from Australia. They are from Sweden. They won Eurovision in 1974 with their song Waterloo. After they won they were trying to make it, and an Australian TV show called Countdown introduced them here. They had massive hits and their album was in the charts for ages. They were big here. Us Aussies helped catapult their fame. You’re welcome world! We knew they were great. They also did a TV show with Olivia Newton John and Andy Gibb (youngest brother of the Bee Gees).
6:53 - Don't excuse yourself for that! I think it's great that you're bringing up personal experiences. That's what's so fun about watching reactions, basically seeing where the songs take the viewer. It's so boring when people just stone face watch something and say "cool" at the end. Anecdotes and thoughts like that is what makes a TH-cam channel personal! :)

Abba was very popular in Australia and featured in the Ozzie film “Muriel’s Wedding”
Best version I reckon is Muriel Streep in “Mamamia”.
Very dark song once you know what it's about.

This song was about Agnetha and Bjorn divorce. They are Sweden 🇸🇪
Bjorn says he didn't write this about their divorce, but just about divorce in general. Agnetha really didn't want to sing it.
He said that to save face after the public backlash.

fun fact. Anni-Frid is actually Norwegian. Her father was a german ww2 soldier so she is what we call a "war-child".
Born in Norway but taken to Sweden when still a baby. She has always identified as Swedish though I'm sure she is proud of her Norwegian roots.
